5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great chainsaw!!! Does every thing a normal user would want.
Its light, has plenty of power and the small battery lasts just fine.
5.0 out of 5 stars Lightweight yet gets the job done
I was needing this for trimming smaller tree branches. Turns out it is capable of cutting down small trees as well. It is my 4th chainsaw, first one that's battery powered. Gas powered chainsaws have more power, but carrying them around thickly forested land for distances was making projects harder than needed. This little dude does the trick.
4.0 out of 5 stars Can cut logs at least 7" wide, battery life is only good for about 10-15 minutes.
This came with just the saw and a saw cover. No directions in the box, and of course as told when you make the purchase, no battery. I have two 20V batteries from other Black and Decker tools, so that was not a big problem.Pros: When fully charged, it was able to cut through very hard wood up to at least 7 inches thick. The saw is VERY quiet, compared to the old gas one I used to have. Another pro with this being electric, no smelly gas fumes or sparkplug and carburetor to worry about repairing. It is also very lightweight. The last pro, is that it was able to completely cut down a tree and it's branches in about 1 hour total cutting time.Cons: As others had mentioned, even after adding bar chain oil, none of the oil came out onto the chain. #2, the battery life was no more than 10-15 minutes. After that, you begin to notice the saw just slows down and eventually just quits. So, I probably could have used a total of 3 batteries to take care of what I needed to cut down. The last con, is that there were no directions in the box, not that one really needs one. Maybe if there were directions, it would explain how to trouble shoot the bar chair oil issue. All in all, this is a keeper. I will probably never really need to use it a lot, but once in a while, maybe while out hunting, a volunteer outing, or if one of my trees happens to fall over. The price is FAIR, I would be interested how the 40v stacks up to this in terms of battery life. Like I said, once fully charged, even with a 10 inch saw, I wouldn't hesitate to take this to any tree!!
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Chainsaw for light duty workloads!
I own a Stihl chainsaw that I use for larger work, but I bought this black and decker chainsaw for lighter duty/low mobility/low visibility jobs. I have a number of 20V tools and the batteries to go with them so this was a no-brainer to get this to go along with the rest of my kit. I put it through it's paces today with a fully charged 1.5AH battery to cut down a number of small trees that had grown up on my property and trim some woody bushed up close to my house. I got almost everything cut down that I needed to before the battery died. I had another battery in my hedge trimmer that I brought with me but needed to mow before the rain hit so called it a day on the pruning. I found it very easy to maneuver the saw where I needed and it cut through everything with ease. I had put off buying one of these for years now, but finally decided to bite the bullet and i am happy I did. It really made the job easier, especially not having to deal with a much heavier chainsaw, the noise, and worrying about cutting myself while trying to get into position. I have a 4.0 AH battery that I could have used and would have done so if I had a larger job to tackle. Highly recommended!
5.0 out of 5 stars The yard chain saw for people afraid of chain saws
Ever since I read Robert Frost's poem "Out, Out" in seventh grade--a boy's chain-saw accident kills him--I use anything but a chain saw. But this Black & Decker is the perfect beginner's safety chain saw. It is so useful for blown-down branches and limbs, saplings you don't want, such like. If you use other B & D 20 volt outdoor tools, you'll already have a collection of appropriate interchangeable lithium ion batteries. Buying this, I now have 4 batteries, more than enough to do any work required. You'll get about a half hour of sawing out of a battery. It is plenty powerful to do the work. They sell the oil, replacement chains, and should you ever need one, replacement (or additional) rechargeable batteries on line. I am pleased with the quality of this Black & Decker product, especially for the price of $90-120. B & D has come a long way with this new line of 20 Volt Lithium-Ion battery products for yard use. I would recommend this for anyone needing to saw up to I'd say 7" in diameter or less. No more fooling with oil and gas mixes, no more fumes, and this model is easily portable. One more thing--this comes with an EXCELLENT manual to teach you step-by-step everything you need to know to use this, maintain it, and to saw safely. Now I use it all the time. For those of you needing a bigger saw, they're out there, with longer blades and 40 Volt batteries--but you'll pay a good deal more. But a small well-made chain saw with a low-kickback safety chain has a role to play for many of us. I have had my saw now for just under two years. And oh, by the way, Frost based his poem on a real kid, back in Franconia New Hampshire in 1917.
It not a replacement for real gas chainsaws, but is close.
Great 10" Saw, works great for medium to small trees. Prefect for around the yard work.the chain can bounce out a bit if you are not putting enough tention while cutting, or not holding it with a proper grip. It is definitely worth the pricePros:Easy to use , the machine is light weight, and the chain is easy to adjust.Cons:Will require the 5.0amp batter park for any use longer than 10 minutes the 1.5Amp batteries die quickly under loadThe oil leaks out of the pump if you put it in any weird positions, like upside down.
Good cordless chainsaw but do not buy used
Been looking for an electric chainsaw to cut down small trees on trails on my property. Previously I bought a one of the low cost mini cordless chainsaw that are on Bolo the price was cheap but the batteries did not last that long and it was impossible to buy new or replacement batteries. The Black & Decker 20V Max Cordless Chainsaw, worked great and used the same batteries that my Black & Decker Alligator Lopper uses.. I was able also to buy extra high compacity batteries. The problem that I made was to save money I bought one of the used chainsaws that where offered on the sidebar for $96.93. To start the chainsaw worked fine but eventually it became weaker and did not have the power. One day I went out to the garage to get my equipment and put a new fully charged battery on it and the engine smoked. The upside is that Bolo.ca put me in contact with Black & Decker and being that it was only a month old they will be replacing it under warranty. I am now patiently waiting and hope the replacement arrives in time so I can do some clean up before the snow falls.October 25th, I received a replacement from Black & Decker and it included battery and charger.Yesterday I tried out the new BLACK+DECKER 20V Max Cordless Chainsaw to cut down a spruce tree by the road with an 8" trunk and it cut through it like butter. Used the Max Cordless Chainsaw to delimb the branches from the tree,Will keep you informed
Good platform of 20v, sturdy home application power tools.
At first blush I was skeptical. I have spent a small fortune on b&d products and batteŕies so I'm well set up. Went all in and bought 8, 20v products and a fast charger. Sitting on 6 charged batteries at any given time. The lilac growth had grown to a 30 foot circle, all grown in with little thin suckers and shoots of bigger wood with several 4 to 6 inch wood stems. One stump to the ground was 8 inches of dense wood. Three tools used, a rake, a b&d 20v hedger and b&d 20v chainsaw. Batteries used a 2.5ah at 75% on hedger and two, 4ah aftermarket. Got an hour out of the 2.5ah then swapped it to 4ah. Worked 8 hours to complete the job, pictures above before, and final cut. Both batteries still juiced on completion. When you first squeeze the trigger you think "Not gonna cut it" but it does, quietly and at a good pace. Never binds, it just keeps on chewing wood. I was listening to music from my b&d Bluetooth speaker, I'm a chainsaw guy, that's a first. You won't buck 5 cords of 8 inch, but around the yard for taming the grounds it's ideal. Great system off grid with a small solar system. I can see building a cabin remotely with continuous work every day with no problem. I put these two tools through their paces and found them up to task within their abilities. I recommend.
Perfect when used where it is destined
I have a gas chainsaw that I downgraded to a smaller one recently as I am finding them heavier now at 55 young. I also have the pole saw from this series which I absolutely love. This 10inch saw is the perfect complement to complete the toolset. Surprisingly powerful to cut larger wood than expected. It is the best tool to make a few cuts on larger branches once on the ground when pruning. Also very good if must climb to cut a branch.Wood not use this saw to cut a cord of wood! For some reason it tends to bounce when cutting if not very well positioned. It is lighter than the gas chainsaw but could be lighter. It is build much tougher than the previous 8inch model.I have one acre to maintain and very happy to have these toolsets to help me!
B&D Generally makes battery powered good tools
Looked like a good design. Got it prompt, of course no battery supplied- wonder why? Well, I used our 6 B&D batteries for other B&D garden tools we own- it was pretty clear, ~ 4 batteries may get you ~ 30-35min tree/branch work, so got some 3Ah batteries and each gave about 15min (on and off) running time. After ~ 6hrs use total, there were issues with chain oiling and safety switch systems. We have a no name 6" bat-powered chain saw that is more dependable doing about the same cutting jobs, and it weighs ~ 60% less than this 10". We obviously use B&D tools, but this is not one of their good ones Sorry to say and I have ~ 50 yrs chain saw and garden tool use, so I forgive a lot, but may be think about getting this tool vs any other at same or lower price. The battery compatibility (with other B&D tools) is not the only issue- it's the motor!
