5.0 out of 5 stars Great little vacume
Bought this to add to my dewalt tool collection. Very happy with it. Lots of suction. Compact but hold alot of debris. Good price. Love it having duel power capabilities. Two negatives though... wish it charged batteries as well and also wish came with extensions. Light weight for its size is a plus too! Battery lasted longer than I used it! (8ah)
5.0 out of 5 stars Great set up
Compact, good suction power and can use batteries or plug into wall. Does a great job cleaning up a small job mess. Extremely happy with this product and seems very durable
5.0 out of 5 stars It SUCKS, But In A Good Way! Great Portable Vacuum. (UPDATE)
I just recently took on a job driving a school bus and if you are a school bus driver, you understand how much of a pain in the you know what it is to sweep in between the seats to get the dirt out and all other kinds of things that children drop on the floor of the bus. I bought this vacuum because I have already invested into the DeWalt 20V Max tool line and have a few of those batteries around to run my tools plus I needed a vacuum that would be much stronger than your usual big box brand store type dust buster. This vacuum does fit the bill and does the job nicely. It has strong suction for a battery powered vacuum which supprised me, even to the point where it is almost as strong as my 5 gal shop vac that I have in my work shop. It comes with on board tools that you would most commonly use on a shop vac and this vac with the cord option weighs in at just over 9 pounds. The only cons that I am finding with this vacuum which are not many...- It does not come with any extension wands to allow you to reach into that hard to reach areas like what a school bus would have but you can get generic extensions at your local Lowes or Home Depot.- On a 5Ah 20v Max battery, it will run about 20 minutes only. BUT will run off a 120V power inverter that is capable of supplying over 300W. (If you have the corded option with this vacuum)- Lastly, This vacuum from what I have researched is not packaged with a battery and a charger if you want to use it in the battery mode. It will require you to purchase a battery and a charger seperatly wich can be an additional $150.00 or more, depending on the size battery you get.I have this vacuum now for some time and it continues to work flawlessly! I have purchased the 60V Flex Volt Batteries to use on not only this vacuum even though it will only draw 20V. BUT IT IS 20V at 9Ah, but other DeWalt tools that I have and this vac will run for a VERY LONG TIME before needing to charge the battery. I am finding that when I need to do small vacuum jobs around my house, I pass up my dust buster that I have and use this vacuum.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good; not as good as previous model
I waited awhile to post this review to see how this vacuum performed for a month or so. I have the older DC500 model, and was always very pleased with it. It worked well, was quieter than most similar products, and lasted for years with a lot of use. Finally, it started hesitating to start, and when I took it apart, I could find no problem, and the motor seemed clean and the shaft moved freely, so, while I still suspect a motor problem, I decided to get a new machine instead of springing for a new motor (still available, however) for the old vacuum; especially since I wasn't even sure that that was the problem. The new model is a little different, and I'm not impressed with the changes. It is still quieter than most, and works effectively. I leave it plugged in in my workshop most of the time, and use it enough to have to empty it about once a week. I do not use it on battery power, so I have no comment about that feature. I give this vacuum four stars mostly on the basis of it's effectiveness and my expectation of longevity, but otherwise I would rank it lower for the following reasons.Unlike the old model DC500, there is no cover for the battery plug-in area, leaving the contacts much more likely to pick up dust and grit in the shop. As I said, I don't use that feature much, but I do have other DeWalt tools with compatible batteries, so I wouldn't want to find myself wanting to use it on batteries and find it gunked up. I duct taped a Ziploc bag hanging over the battery contact area--a solution I think will achieve the desired effect; although unsightly. Another issue, albeit a minor issue, is that unlike the earlier model, there is no drainage port in the base. I wouldn't remove any stars because of that, but it bears mentioning if a potential user doesn't have the muscle to lift up a vac base full of water and turn it over to empty it. I haven't actually done a comparison test on this, but it APPEARS that the new model would hold less in its base than the older model. In any case, the filter is definitely smaller than before, so if a user happened to have an extra filter or two on hand for the older model, they will not fit the new model. Most annoying of all of my quibbles is the hose. The hose on my old machine is still good, but the fit is not the same, so my old hose cannot be used on the new machine. Besides that--and this may just be my particular unit rather than all of them--the hose on the new unit fights removal and requires considerably more effort to remove when I want to switch from vacuum mode to blowing mode. It is somewhat more cooperative when It's time to remove it from the blowing port. Lastly, and also having to do with the hose, the rigid attachment at the hose end that receives the various extensions and other attachments came off in my hand while using it to vacuum up some sawdust on my workbench one day! I tried to kind of screw it back onto the corrugated hose, but that was insufficient and I ended up with the duct tape again; this time to secure the hose end onto the body of the hose. This never happened with years of use on the older model.I'm still giving four stars--at least on an interim basis--because of effectiveness, relative quietness, and EXPECTED longevity. It does bother me, however, that this vacuum has these issues that it's predecessor did not.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good vac, dual fuel, decent suction
I do HVAC for a living, so in winter months I spend about 5 to 8 hours a day doing routine maintenance on Furnaces and Boilers. Part of the job is vacuuming out the equipment. I had a Stinger Vacuum for the job for years. But I always needed to carry around a 20 foot extension cord because there's not always an outlet within 7 feet of the equipment. This vacuum is a game changer. After I bought one most of my work mates bought one as well. I purchased with (2) 5 amp hour batteries. One battery easily gets me through one day, usually 2 or more days. I'd guess probably around an hour or so use on one 5 amp hour battery.I like that the crevice tool stores in the handle. I like being about to ug it in to conserve battery when I can.The suction power, even while plugged in, doesn't match the Stinger I had. It's good enough for the job however, to get rust out of boilers, clean out burners, clear cobwebs and dirt and dust from blower motor compartments. It works great in my RV and my truck while cleaning. The filter is easy as pie to remove and clean, and is significantly more durable than the bag style filter that was on the Stinger.I've had this vac for nearly 2 years with daily use and it does the job. I would absolutely buy it again and I will when this one buys the farm. One thing, it would be epic if it charged the battery while plugged in but I still love the thing.
Maravilloso
Buenas potencia. Utilizo una batería de 12 amp flexvolt y no me hace falta otra cosa.
Good Quality Vacuum But Not a Shop Vacuum .... Read On!
In consideration that some have found the suction performance of this vacuum limited, I hesitated from buying this vacuum for over a year hoping that DeWalt would bring out a newer version that has more power. I'm passionate about DeWalt tools and I have allot of 20V-Max tools and batteries so despite the reviews presented herein, when my old 5 gal shop vacuum started to "grind to a halt" I decided to throw caution to the wind and buy it. To be clear, this is NOT a "shop vacuum" and to compare with one would be unfair. Suction power from even a cheap 5 gal conventional vacuum lays waste to this unit. Even small corded shop vacuums use 5 A motors and this one has a 2.6 A motor (based on the label) so it has half the power. The suction is good and usable but not truly powerful. If you have a big mess to clean up, need to root-out hairs from a carpet, or you want to clean your car or truck get something else. Also, like cheap vacuums (all types), the suction air that passes through the fan also cools the motor so don't use this for cleaning up fine dust like drywall/concrete/talc/flour/rock, etc. Used this way, the filter will plug up in short order and will burn out the motor so if you have to tackle this get something else.Below are the merits of this unit and the rationale I have for scoring five stars:1. Construction quality - Well built as evidenced by a neoprene rubber gasket sealing the bottom to the top. This optimizes suction and prevents leaks if collecting water. The on/off switch "clacks" with authority just like the side clamps for the bottom. Feels consistent with DeWalt quality.2. Versatility - Go cordless or corded when the battery goes flat. The unit switches almost seamlessly between battery or 120V. Note however, while on 120 V, there is a noticeable loss of power. I don't know exactly why but I suspect that there is just one 18V DC motor that gets power from either the battery directly or through a AC/DC rectifier where there may be some power losses in that circuitry on its way to the motor. Works with standard 1 1/4 in vacuum hose attachments and can be used as a blower (for small jobs).3. Wet or dry applications - This unit does either and when filled with water, a ball shuts off the air flow to the fan. The owner's manual recommends that the filter remain in place at all times, even when vacuuming water as it is made of plastic. The filter is fine enough to use as a backup to a cannister or upright vacuum for cleanup of ordinary house dust so it won't recirculate this dust and can be washed easily. You can't do that with a shop vacuum unless a paper filter and bag are installed.4. Capacity - With 2 gal capacity and a micro-screen filter cartridge, this vacuum makes a better choice than a hand-held vacuum as it has more suction power so even with a 2 A-Hr battery, there's enough time and power to clean up lint, dust and crumbs under the whole couch or fridge. You can even take this camping with you in case you need to clean up sand from the inside the tent or RV.5. Noise - Quiet enough to use as an alternative to a cannister vacuum if you need suction to clean out the dust from inside computers and other electronics.6. Great price.
Love this vac. Works well and very portable. Use it on my car and take it crevicing for gold.
Buena compra
Buena máquina jala bien y el precio justo
Versatile and practical small portable vac
After reading some mixed reviews, I decided to give this a go anyway. Been using for about a month now during a travel trailer renovation on farm with no power on site. The ability to use the batteries from my other Dewalt tools is great. Battery life is very good, I have 2 so can get lots of cleaning done. The power of the vacuum is adequate - certainly not a 120v replacement, but it does pretty well, enough to make a difference in the ease of cleanup so I think it has been a worthwhile purchase for sure. Emptying is super easy, hose stores and is long enough, unit is light and small enough. Would be nice to have a highpower mode and crevice tool.
