I installed this in my new computer with Windows 10. It automatically installed itself and then prompted me to download a video player from the app store.

UPDATED with tale of woeI burned about a half dozen CD-R with this unit, and maybe a dozen DVD for data backups. I also used it to read about 50 CD-R data backups I had burned in years past with a different burner. It started failing to read CD-R but I assumed it was a problem with the old optical media. I start experimenting with CD-ROMs and CD-DA; it won't read/write CD media at all anymore although DVD media works.I contacted the seller about an RMA. They advised me to contact Lite-On.So I contacted Lite-on, who said get the RMA from the seller.Ok. I told the seller, who asked to see Lite-On's response, which I'd already provided in the email. :-\Then the seller asked for the serial number, which I'd already provided in email. :-( I don't like this pattern.Seller says they are in the process of procuring an RMA. Ok. I will name names if this blows up, but if they come through I will put it all behind me.Because this can take a while I figured I'd order another one and keep any RMA replacement as a spare. I noticed there was a refurb available from a different seller, and I've had great experience with refurbs in the past. Seller (M-Wave) shipped very fast. IMO there is no way this drive was refurbed, or even inspected.The door wouldn't open. Weird. No grinding or hanging, just a gentle whir. I opened the drawer manually with the paperclip trick and saw the drawer drive belt was loose in the drive (see pic). I was able to retrieve it and install it on the pulleys with a pick. Joy!No, despair. The drive clacks and won't stay closed whether or not a disc is present. It sounds like maybe the drive head is not lifting into place correctly. I put in for a replacement but apparently Prime only does refunds. Fine.I gave up on this model drive and just bought a Samsung instead:Samsung 24x SATA DVD+RW DVD-Writer Internal Optical Drive (SH-224FB/BSBE)===== Original review =====A great drive, just what the insiders have come to expect from Lite-On. Funny name, fantastic burners.

Not exactly sturdily built but functions OK. Installs easily, though no instructions were given as to how to pry off the front drawer bezel (which you need to do before mounting inside a computer). Had to fool around with it for a while to figure the best way to pry it off to remove it. Overall, a decent product for such an inexpensive CD burner.

I've used Lite-on drives in previous builds, but never this model. I had decided to keep my old XP machine to use off-line while in the process of building a Windows 7 machine so I didn't attempt to install these older drives in my newer computer (one 9 year old Sony, and one 8 year old Lite-on, neither of which have given me any problems).I tried to load the new Win7 OS with a new and highly rated ASUS drive with no luck......it just kept returning errors on my installation. I decided to go with this drive, even though there are some less expensive ones that are Win7 compatible. I actually purchased 2 of these "bare drives" (comes with no software) to make it easier to copy DVD's. There are many adequate free DVD copy programs available (Google it).This IHAS124-14 started right up and installed the OS flawlessly. I have since use both drives to install additional software without any problems. No software disk came with these, but they were plug n play for my motherboard. Also, make sure you have a spare SATA cable to connect these to the mother board.This drive is fairly quiet during operation. I've copied 6 CD;s and 4 DVD's so far without incident, and all copies burned perfectly on the first try (guessing I'm lucky, as I was not using the most expensive media to make copies to).So far I'm impressed with these drives, and glad I made the purchase. I might add that the read speed is up to par, but the write speed seemed a tad bit slower than advertised (just an impression), but fast enough for me.If any problems occur, I will update this review accordingly.

Yes, I still use CDs and DVDs in my chassis. I picked this one because I remember almost every off-the-shelf computer from the late 1990s to 2010s had a Lite-On CD or DVD drive. No trouble, still reliable as always.

I bought this to supplement a Pioneer DVD writer that was having trouble playing lightly scratched CDs. That drive also wasn't passing on its media status to Windows 10 for some reason - eject a disc and Windows thinks the media is still there. So how's the new drive? So far, very good! I tested a lightly scratched CD that plays fine in standalone CD players. Worked just fine in the Lite-On drive, too. The drive is also communicating with Windows 10 x64 without any need to update firmware or otherwise configure the drive. Drive shows up in the Device Manager as ATAPI iHAS124 F.For the price, it's fine. Some minor issues to be aware of: (a) The drive is not quiet when ripping media, but plays media quietly. (b) The green LED on the front of the drive, which blinks during media playback, is VERY BRIGHT. (c) The build quality is extremely light and flimsy. I don't expect the drive to last long. (d) It's an OEM drive wrapped in an unsealed and flimsy plastic bag. However, it's exactly as pictured here on Bolo.

SATA DVD-RW drive installed easily, works fine as I expected.
Will use for general CD and DVD jobs. I have a Lite-On DVD drive in my old computer, got another for my new one with Win10 64-bit. Have used once so far to install important software.
