Disclaimer!!!!!! I have only used the Newport motor once so I can’t give feedback on long term yet but I’ll update back over time if things change. I’m no expert at all but I have had maybe 10 trolling motors over the years and can compare speed-vibration-battery life-ergonomics-etc from them to it. Overall yes I am happy with it and will NOT be returning it. It’s very nice with only one major flaw. First gear is way too aggressive. This new newport 86lb is faster in first gear than my 40lb at full power. Creeping ultra quietly down back is not easy anymore.I WANT TO GIVE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK FIRST.Only one issue so far, first gear is super aggressive. It’s not bad enough for me to return, just something to note. First gear, the slowest option is 3mph. For example my 40lb first gear is maybe little over half of a mph. So an immediate 3mph is very jerky, so if you are moving on small ponds just get the 62lb that runs 12v. If you are fishing bigger reservoirs or state parks, etc get this 86lb. I covered so much more water today now that I’m moving double the speed. I wish it was possible to have a slower first gear to creep from spot to spot. It’s much more aggressive than I would like first gear to be. IF the guy upfront is standing you better let him know before you turn the motor on. It’s funny with my buddy in his 30s, but my dad in his 70s is going to have a balance problem if he is standing LOL. Creeping ultra quietly down the bank is not possible. Reverse is perfect! Very powerful too.Had a spare motor guide 40lb I threw on there for this test and my boat got to 3mph. With this new 86lb I’m now able to get over 5mph speed even with weight of 2 big batteries and 2 180-200lb guys and our rods, the front motor and battery/etc. The motor seems very nice quality, reminds me of minn kota. I would rank this quality higher feel than either of my motorguides (r3 and a xi3) The lever clicks are very solid, like I like my adjustments on an optic. I want to hear and feel the change. I ran it all day today and the battery light only went down one bar! Nothing got hot either.INCLUDES THE CABLE YOU NEED TO RIN 24v!I took a picture of wiring and batteries to help others get setup. Super simple To run the 24v needed. I picked up 2 deep cycle marine batteries (pictured) at Walmart for $100 each. They are both 100+ah batteries. This 86lb came with the cable to run from one batteries positive, to the other batteries negative. Then you hook the motor up wires to the open positive and negative posts.Battery voltage indicator is such a nice feature. I will reply back to tell you how accurate it is.Vibration seemed normal. Nothing to crazy. I was able to turn on full speed and it stayed straight with my hand even off it. Big bonus for that when you need to cover a lot of water it’s nice to take your hand off for a second.This Newport 86lb motor seems to only weigh slightly more than a normal 55lb troller. Also a win. Easy to take on and off boat if you need to.

Moves through the water great. I had a Minn Kota 45 pound thrust & replaced it with this Newport 55 pound thrust. Shifts great & works well in reverse with no vibrations. Plenty of power. Moved about 425 pounds in a 9.5 foot hard back inflatable across a 113 acre lake. Easy to adjust & mount. Would recommend if you're looking for a good trolling motor. Love the LED indicator on top. Let's you know where you are with battery power.

Happy with this motor on our 7.5' Mercury inflatable. Wanted a Torqueedo, but didn't want to part with several thousand dollars. Did some research to check against Minn Kota, the NV55 is a little cheaper than the comparable MK, and although we'll only ever use it in freshwater, the fact that it's saltwater corrosion resistant makes one think it'll last a little longer in fresh water, too. We mainly use it for tendering back and forth to the beach, riding around at the beach, and a little bit in the yacht basin. It's a pretty leisurely ride on anything other that the 5th step, but that's the nature of a trolling motor on a RIB. I got the impression that the NV36 would have basically been like only having the first 4 speeds, no kick-in-the-pants speed. That said, you're still not water skiing with 5th speed, although I will say it doesn't go any slower or faster with one adult or three.We run it off a group 24 deep cycle battery, goes a surprisingly long time between charges, but we're not really running it in a way that I could measure distance or runtime. I do have a meter on it when I recharge, battery takes on 30 to 35 amp hours, which really isn't much out of this particular battery. I put the battery into the "MinnKota Trolling Motor Power Center", which NV also sells, but is exactly the same box for twenty bucks more. The box has been very convenient for moving the battery in and out of the boat, and no sharp corners to puncture or wear on the boat. A group 24 or 27 lithium battery in this box would be awesome, as a lead acid batteries are heavy! Still not quite as convenient as a Torqueedo, but getting closer! Since we pop the RIB up on it's side on the swim platform, we have to install/remove the motor and battery each time. A pain, but a LOT less hassle than the 2.5hp gas motor!I do have one "wish" for the motor design; The handle that is the gear selector is numbered 1 through 5 for forward, 0 for stopped, and 1 through 3 for reverse. Without actually looking at the position of the handle, it's hard to tell if you're on 0. When pulling up to a dock or the swim platform on our big boat, it would be nice to be able to stop the motor, put it to the zero position without looking. Maybe a harder detent at 0? Or having a hard stop at 0 and you need to push the handle in to get it into reverse? I'd hate to have a lockout button for reverse, as it would suck to have reverse be a 2 handed operation... A button on the end of the handle maybe? All of these ideas cost real money to implement, though, and since NV is try to stay just under the cost of Minn Kota, unlikely to see the light of day... It's not the end of the world, but would certainly be more convenient if you didn't have to look...

Purchased this 55 Lb. thrust trolling motor to replace a MK brand that was no longer working after many years of service. Was stunned at the current replacement cost of a new MK so ordered this Newport Vessels brand. It is being used on a 12 foot alum. wide-transom canoe with a Group 24 deep cycle battery. Used it 2 times so far. Once on a tidal river and then a lake. (2 passengers). It performed very well and never lacked for speed even when up against head winds and tidal currents. It was used at speeds 2 and 3 for the most part with occasional bursts in 4 and 5. In speeds 1-3 it's a trolling motor, at 4 it's cruising and at 5 it becomes more like an outboard motor! She flies! Fairly quiet, but gets a bit louder as the speeds go up. Motor runs well but not as smooth and refined as the MK did. Seems to use a little more power than the MK, but the MK had slow- start and maximizer circuitry. Battery was down to about 65% after just under 2 hours but that was fighting winds and opposing current about 1/2 the time. Never felt any reduction in speed/power. Don't count on the built-in LED battery indicator as it was still showing 4 out of 5 lights. Overall, a decent motor and a good value. Can't comment on durability/reliability just yet until it sees more use.

Had it out on the water twice now and it’s been great. Cheaper than a Minn Kota and seems just as durable. Can’t speak to it’s longevity yet, but so far absolutely no complaints. I’m using it on an 11ft Seahawk 4 dinghy. More than enough power. We’ve been trolling the local lake on speed 1-2. Speed 5 packs some punch, at least for our dinghy.I bought the 10’ extension cables thinking that we would have to balance the boat out with the battery in the front but with my gf at the front of the boat, we haven’t had to use the extension cables. If you’re on a dinghy and going out by yourself, the extension cables might not be a bad idea just to even out the weight a bit. Also, we have a custom wooden floor that the guy I bought the dinghy off of had built. Without it, I would be worried about the battery weight on the soft inflatable floor. Battery weights about 50-60lbs and the wooden floor definitely helps distribute the weight. If you don’t have the tools to craft a custom floor for your dinghy, I would recommend at least finding a 3’ x 3’ piece of plywood to help distribute the weight of the battery.Overall, couldn’t be happier with the trolling motor. Beats the hell out of rowing, it’s imperceptibly quiet, and we’ve pulled more trout out of the lake than we could have without it.

I have used this Newport Vessels NV-Series 46lb Thrust Saltwater Transom Mounted Trolling motor on my 14 foot aluminum wide hull . This trolling motor works fantastic . You can put your boat into any position you want for fishing and the 3 reverse speeds and 5 forward speeds move the boat right along. Great design and Great communication with the company which is in California USA.I say BUY IT . you will be very happy.

Buen motor solo que yo esperaba mas velocidad en el kayak pero aparte de que mi kayak es muy pesado, el motor funcionó muy birn, el problema que tuve, fue que en 3 horas se me bajó la carga de la batería por ir siempre a máxima velocidad, fubciona6muy bien en reversa y para adelante.Quiza lo cambie por un 2.5 de 2 tiempos de combustión interna, necesito mas velocidad para poder trolear.
