First, let me say that I am new to all this, just being dx with emphysema a few weeks ago and at a 4 flow rate. The cannula drives me batty. My nose runs, stops up and I seem to always be blowing my nose. I was always forgetting to breath thru my nose not my mouth. With my previous shortness of breath with exertion, I had gotten use to mouth breathing during those times.A face mask seemed intriguing and I ordered 3 different ones. The first two came quickly. The one I feel favorably about is the Ausilium mask, the one with the green straps. It is a thickish, rubbery plastic mask with a metal nose piece that can be adjustedi to allow closer adherence to the face. It has vents and I covered the vents thinking to get more oxygen concentration and that did not work. lol.... It sucked the mask, in and out with each breath. The surprising thing was the oxygen readings were fantastic, routinely 98 - 99 - even the 100s at times by my oxymeter. The warmth of my skin and breath allowed the mask to mold it's self closer to my face but it never attained an air tight fit. But I found that you don't really want it air tight. So, there is leakage around the top (between eyebrows) and under my chin. Not unpleasant or anything. But remember, I am at a 4 flow rate and have no clue how the mask would behave with a higher, more forceful flow rate.I am still surprised at how easy it is to keep those high oxygen readings, even with the leakage. But think about it.... the oxygen is being trapped/concentrated by the mask and when you breath in, whether by nose or mouth, it is all going into your lungs with little leakage/loss compared to the nose cannula which delivers oxygen thru those two little holes into your nose. The inconveniences? And this would be true regardless of which mask.... You need to 'schedule' your water breaks and eating. Also, talking on the phone. I watched the last 30 mins or so of Top Gun and felt a real affinity with those guys in the masks..lol... even my voice. Too funny. I never noticed how much and how often I sip on water or tea.The piece of elastic won't last long imho because you are taking the mask off and on a lot. I tied a knot on one side and left the other side unknotted so I could snug it down from time to time. I sew and I am pretty sure I have some spare elastic around here. It will have to be thin and strong tho.edit... I noticed that one can purchase elastic shoe strings for little money which should do nicely if/when I need to replace the existing elastic.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too small for average adult face
It was portrayed as a standard size, but is way too small for an average adult's face.
5.0 out of 5 stars Mask
It has a good sized air hose and fits better than just the two things that go in your nose.
