5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious, Wonderful Product
B&M Brown Bread with Raisins has been a family favorite for a long time, and it is, for some reason, very hard to locate in my area. It is delicious - we like it just sliced and buttered but there are other ways to enjoy it, I am sure. It is more of a cake product than bread to my way of thinking. These two cans that I received are very fresh, with a "Best Sell By 0326" date. Well packaged and quick delivery (online delivery tracking makes it easy to watch package progress.
5.0 out of 5 stars If you know, you know
I like to tell people about this because it usually freaks them out. But in some areas, it's tradition. It was more common 40 years ago, I could find it in local stores. These days it's very rare, but I haven't bothered asking a manager. I just buy the occasional cans online, as long as the price is reasonable.Great with hot dogs and baked beans.
4.0 out of 5 stars B&M Brown Bread with raisins
I’ve eaten this bread all my life, but I can’t buy it in Florida. So I ordered thru Bolo. Product disappointed! Very very dry.
5.0 out of 5 stars Love this Bread!
I discovered this bread many, many years ago. It is delicious! It was always on the grocer's shelf for purchase. I had not been able to find it for several years, as it is no longer on any grocer's shelves. At lease I can now order it.
5.0 out of 5 stars This bread reminded me of my childhood
My favorite lunch when a kid was sandwiches made from cream cheese and this bread!
1.0 out of 5 stars This is not the brown raisin bread I remember
Years ago, I loved B&M Brown Raisin Bread, so when I had the chance to get it again, I was excited. This is not the bread I remember from my youth. It was gloopy, it stuck in the can, and was overall just a soggy mess. Even while being soggy and gummy, the bread still somehow managed to be dry and had a weird metallic aftertaste. I opened the second can, hoping against hope that the first can had been a fluke, but no. It was awful. It was inedible; I threw it away.
3.0 out of 5 stars NOT AS I REMEMBERED
I loved the little sandwiches my mother would make from this bread (although I think it also had dates in it then) for special occasions. She spread cream cheese between two slices of this bread and served them with fruit salad. I did the same several years ago and wanted to include these in a tea party I was having for some young girls and their mothers this week. It was a disappointment when, first, I couldn't get the bread out of the can by removing both ends of the can and pushing it out. I finally slid a knife around the edges, but it was ragged and dry. When I tried to cut it with a thin sharp knife, the slices broke off before the slicing was completed. I was doing this the morning of the afternoon tea and pieced them together to make little quarter-sized bites, still dry tasting, They were stored in a plastic container encased in plastic wrap. Later that night, I was ready to discard the rest of the sandwiches that had not been put out for the tea. They looked more moist, so I tasted one. They were much improved. So, for future use -since I ordered four cans of the bread - I will make the sandwiches a day ahead and include a layer of damp paper towels next to the sandwiches between them and the plastic wrap.
5.0 out of 5 stars Love this bread. Not too sweet.
This canned bread tastes heavily of molasses and is not too sweet. I always order the kind with raisins to increase the sweetness. I take a small slice with my morning coffee (about 120 calories) and it fills me up and doesn't create sugar cravings. It also has a gentle laxative effect.
You can't go home again.
When I was a kid, my mom used to make from-scratch baked beans, accompanied by this bread, with raisins. That was many decades ago, but I still remember how delicious it was, Like so many other childhood memories, this doesn't hold up. In fact, it tastes almost bitter, and the raisins are invisible. It may not be entirely the B&*M company's fault...ingredients have changed too. Everything has going up in price, but cheaped out in quality. Disappointing...
