Evaporative humidifiers are great for climates where the air is very dry in different seasons. Especially if you have any wooden instruments in the house. The unfortunate things is that they have wicks which need replacing every few months because like anything left in water for a period of time they develop mold. These wicks last for a long time and work very well in the AirCare humidifiers for which they are meant. They're not cheap but they are much less expensive than having to get cracks in favorite furniture or musical instruments!

The Aircare1043 wicks are integral components of our Aircare 831000 humidifier. In our dry Arizona environment, they help keep my guitar room at 40 percent humidity. The best part is they produce no white calcium dust from our hard water like many other cold-vapor humidifiers we've tried. Replacing the wick every six months is recommended, although I've gone more than that without consequences. The wicks cannot be cleaned for reuse, so plan on ordering two per year.

I use this compact, evaporative humidifier to raise the humidity in my whole 2 bedroom apartment from its New England winter level of about 24% to a much more comfortable 35%. Unlike ultrasonic humidifiers, evaporators use tap water and leave no residue in the environment. The unit holds 6 gallons of tap water (which it dispersed in one day when establishing the new, more comfortable environment.) No need to put it in the bedroom so even at high fan speed, no intrusive noise in the bedroom. The negative that reduces the rating to 4/5 is the awkwardness of placing the heavy top unit properly in place, something you have to do on set up and when changing wicks. Company support is excellent.

We have been using this humidifier for several years and have not gotten a replacement filter. This year I decided it was time to get one. This came quickly and works perfectly. The humidity level has improved immensely since we have added the new filter.

At the time, Bolo had the best price but this year I found them for under $20 at Home Depot ($30 at Lowes, $54 on Bolo) so shop around. These are the factory brand filter - they work great and one lasted two years (forgot to change it at end of season like I usually do). And CN stands for CANADA - they are the exact filter as 1043 according to Essick, only sold in Canada with the required bilingual box.
Duties bill.
The filters don’t last and there is an extreme duty bill entering to Canada. Won’t order again I will throw the machine out before I get a bill again.
