The clarity of this magnifier is outstanding and when factoring-in the weight, it's reasonable to assume that the magnifier is made of Chinese leaded crystal, just as the ad says. The dome shape collects more surounding light and slightly brightens the image underneath. Because of it's size, 96mm (not the advertised 100mm), it has a significant amount of weight. Dropping this on the ground or on your foot would do some damage. Unlike acrylic dome magnifiers, that have straight walls leading up to the dome, this crystal dome has no such feature, so sliding this magnifier off the printed material is the most effective way to remove it. I'm very satisfied with my purchased.

If so get the 3.9 inch version. I needed something to magnify my INTERLINEAR BIBLE hebrew greek english by Green…Its 1,000 large pages of extremely small type English KJV lined up with Extremely small type Ancient Hebrew and Greek with word for word extremely small translated English underneath the ancient stuff….I say this because if I didn’t have this specific use I wouldn’t use it much as a magnifier…It’s very heavy and dense, its slick, its unwieldy to move about….and it’s beautiful….Get it for show 100% but as a large man with large strong hands…Its a forearm workout to use for a whole chapter….bought a 2.5 inch version and its 10x less heavy but it doesn’t as look impressive as the 3.9 version..

I got this because I'm far sighted and reading long with glasses on gives me a headache. This is a great alternative. Only issue is that lights reflect off it, so you need to keep that in mind where you sit. But I've got 2 off them, and use them daily. Diffused lighting works best, e.g. lamp with lamp shade.

Love this little ornamental magnifier. Blends in as a decorative home item, yet super functional / convenient for reading occasional fine print. It's size length is about the same circumference as a mini travel candle cover, or fits in palm of hand. Comes with a black velvet drawstring pouch. Happy with this find!

almost a giant crystal ball
I bought this for my dad. The glass is big and of course heavy. No surprise for such a large crystal. Dad was impress as I gave him a 2.5 inch one years ago and this larger one is just way more functional. I also got a second one at the same time just in case he loses the first one. Just don't drop this on your foot. Take my words. It will hurt.
