The shape allows the contents of a 750 ml bottle of wine to properly aerate. And the grocery store reds I buy need to aerate. Solid item, thick glass. It ships safely and it looks cool.

Definitely attractive. Very thick and weighty, which may or may not be a plus in your book.As others have said, to get the last bit out you have to turn it completely upside-down which has been messy a few times. My previous decanter didn't have such a wide base and didn't have this problem, but the purpose is to create as much air surface area as possible, so it seems to be a fair trade-off. Also, you pretty much cannot pour a glass without that ONE drop running down the outside. Might just be physics and this way with all decanters, but I seem to notice it more with this one.What I really like is that when you pour a bottle against the tall side of the neck, the liquid quietly fans out everywhere, seemingly covering the entire surface area of the decanter. This means more exposure to oxygen. which is the whole point.

Nice quality and it really does make red wine test better after you decant in this for a short time. Easy to clean and dry upside down on a stand I bought separately. It also doesn’t tip over when in use due to the wide bottom.
