5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use and easy to adjust thickness too
This is a nice mandolin. It sits sturdily on the counter and is wide enough to accommodate fat tomatoes and big potatoes. The guide included grips using metal tines that engage with a little pressure as you slide it down the ramp. The blades are super sharp, so I highly recommend ordering the safety gloves to prevent cuts if your using a thick setting you could easily be injured enough to require stitches. The thing I like most is how easy it is to adjust the thickness of the cuts. The dial can be set for paper thin to about 1/4 inch or more. Food slides easily down the ramp and the cuts are consistent. The blades are easy to remove for cleaning, or to change to a different style cut, but again, I recommend gloves be worn whenever you do anything with the blades. They are so sharp and that is why they do such a great job. This isn't a cheaply made product. It includes a storage box for additional blades, but it isn't big enough to include all of the blades. One blade is going to have to stay on the mandolin. It stores snuggly in the box too making it easy to keep all of the attachments together.Seriously, the blades are sharp! Order the right kind of safety gloves and you'll be all set to enjoy this cutter.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great inexpensive mandoline. Rivals the performance of my old German model which cost a couple of hundred USD decades ago
I love this mandoline. I had a German made professional mandoline for many years. It unfortunately disappeared. I have yet to find anything I could do with my very expensive professional model I can't do with this. I did have a bit of a problem adjusting to the V-slicer rather than a straight blade, but I got used to it. Customer service is great, the product works perfectly. I can't get the produce in from the garden fast enough. I also bought NoCry gloves at the same time and I'm amazed at how quickly I get through bushels of veggies. I've tried many other plastic models, which can be ok for small jobs, but this is exceptional. I LOVE that you can choose the exact thickness needed, that it fits on bowls even if they have a lip, that the blades are ultra sharp. I can't think of anything I don't like.I HAD TO UPDATE THIS REVIEW. I have now been using this for a few months. It is now used constantly in my home. We breezed through canning and preserving season with less effort than you can believe. Counter space is precious, but this tool stays out. So easy to clean. I also have an air fryer so air fried root veggies are an almost daily treat around here. I also discovered the wavy blade for waffle cutsweet potato fries and quick (refrigerator) pickled things. More surface area, quicker marination. I wish I could give it 10 stars, maybe 100.On some other issues I have answered or commented on, ALWAYS WEAR A CUT GLOVE AND EXCERCISE EXTREME CAUTION. PAY ATTENTION WHEN USING SHARP TOOLS. MOTHER SAYS DON'T RUN WITH SCISSORS! The other issue I've noticed is where is the product made. I know it's German/Austrian engineered and I think at least the plastic is made in the People's Republic pf China. I do know the plastic is heavy duty and well made. I am sure the Mueller website or their help facilities (WHICH ARE EXCELLENT) can tell you, If you have issues with German/Austrian products, I understand. I will point out the the German Jewish branch of my family still owns and runs their manufacturing and world wide retail business (est. 1873) from the German town that bears the family name. It's something to think about if you don't buy German...If you haven't guessed, I'm a huge fan. I'm about to buy the chopper. I use the mandoline so much more often than I envisioned and I can't resist the chopper. Yes, I have food processors and such, but after my experience with this tool I'm looking forward to perfectly diced veggies.
4.0 out of 5 stars Works smoothly except for long direction slicing like zucchini
The media could not be loaded. I had another brand of mandolin slicer when working in Canada that I had to leave behind. This works as well or better than that with the exception of long slicing vegetables like zuchinni. One thing I use this for is making low carb zucchini lasagna. The other slicer had a recess in the top holder to use with cyclindrical vegetables on their side that allowed the pins to grabe the vegetables. This is flat across and the grid on the pusher does not engage the food and grip it. I had to use my thumb to push on the end of the food carefully and towards the end pull the remaining portion through. I did not want to add any of my protein to the meal... Other than that, it works great and will fit over some bowls. I wish they would make a bowl designed for this. Especially the long slices do not go into the bowl well as they hit the end of the bowl while slicing. Other foods work well. Mincing or dicing foods such as onions goes easily and one trick I use on items I want to dice is to make some cross cuts in the food so that the ends are not long strips. This is the same for all of these slicers, not just Mueller. Once that is done the dicing goes smoothly.Cleaning is easy except for the thin notches in the bed where the built in knives come up. You need a small bush to reach in there, but that cleans it up quickly. Nice unit.
Very useful product
Am satisfied with it
Faster sharper chopping
This has cut my chopping time down to a third for the time it was taking me previously. I make lots of pickles and it was taking me so long to chop everything but this is fantastic! I use this for tomatoes, sliced first then put in, then onions in half then pushed through, works a treat in no time. I also use it to chop cauliflower for pickles and it has been just awesome, so glad I brought this!
Very sharp blades
This product blades are extremely sharp. I cut myself so bad that I had to get a stitch done after. Never use without guard . Otherwise a great product...
