5.0 out of 5 stars Boldify vs Aveda Thickening Tonic (vs Redken Guts10)
Updated Review: I still like this Bolidfy, when I want just a little volume and still keep straight, shiny, super soft hair. however, I just tried Redken Guts10 and WOW! That REALLY adds volume and texture to my hair so that it looks twice as full--as if I have twice the hair--and it leaves a little texture in it so it holds a wave or a little curl better. It just looks and feels so much thicker. It puts Boldify to shame in the thickening/volume/texture department. While Boldify is still a really great product that does add some volume to my hair, it does leave my hair still very soft and baby fine feeling, and sometimes I want that. But when I want really FULL volume hair with just a bit of texture (not sticky or stiff), then Redken Guts10 is the best I've so far tried!---------------Well, I was skeptical, even in the face of so many rave reviews, since I’ve tried many many hair products (both as a Vine reviewer and from salons and drug stores and Bolo, etc etc etc!, including Aveda products—Aveda has been my go-to products for some time). But this Boldify really did work to thicken my hair. And it wasn’t sticky or stiff. The shine still came though. It did texture it some so that some of my softness was gone, but that’s the point—my really baby fine hair is way too soft so if I want fullness or something to add some wave or whatever, then my hair needs a little roughing up.The scent is nice—I didn’t notice it throughout the day, but applying it I could smell it and it’s clean and pleasant. I’ve always loved Aveda scents, they are spicy and lovely, so Aveda wins in the scent department. The Boldify scent isn’t as spicy-nice as Aveda but it’s still a good clean scent. This beats out my Aveda Thickening Tonic when it comes to volume and lasting volume. Aveda Thickening Tonic did an okay job but it just doesn’t ‘volume out’ my hair like this Boldify does. What I also noticed with my Aveda Tonic is about an hour or so after blow drying my hair, it just went limp, however, with the Boldify my hair stayed thick and with volume all day. After I slept on it, it still looks full. That sold me.Note that with baby fine hair you have to spray it a little sparingly or it’ll weigh it down just a bit — it’ll still look full but not quite as much.Price-wise, Aveda Thickening Tonic for 3.4 ounces is a little over $21, and Boldify at 4 ounces is about $22, so they aren’t that far apart in pricing. You receive a little more product with Boldify and pay just a little more for that extra. After using Aveda Thickening (and their other root lifting product) for years, I’m ready to switch to Boldify, and will check out their other products.Recommend for baby fine hair that just goes limp. A little goes a long way. It will make your hair seem a little drier but if you blow it out with a round brush or I use my BedHead brush and dryer in one (it has a large head and works GREAT for volume and loose waves!), it will smooth it out. The little bit of dryness is worth it to have volume like I experienced.I’d not use this every day, but for those times I want a little extra for my hair, this is my new go-to. Worth the $22 I paid and I’ll definitely purchase again.I hope my review helped you today.
5.0 out of 5 stars makes hair feel fuller-- NOT whispy, stiff, crunchy, or stringy
i use this spray daily and it makes my hair feel much fuller. i have very thin VERY straight short/medium length hair. it's the perfect medium and makes my hair look AND feel fuller. it gives a good natural volume and makes the hair feel thicker without any negative effects like other products. it's a thin liquid spray i spray into damp hair and blow dry on low to keep a natural shape and it gives me a better than natural volume. scent is very light, not flowery or synthetic-- nearly unscented.it's not strong and thick like mousse so it doesn't make my hair stand on end or make it crunchy or stiff or springy. it also doesn't make it super fluffy and whispy and static-y. it also doesn't coat the hair and weigh it down making it stringy or oily looking. it's the best thickening/volumizing spray i've ever used!
4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good but you need to use a blow dryer
I bought this because i didn't want to use regular hair spray anymore, not to mention since i'm getting older my hair is starting to get thin. I have a very strict hair supplement regimen so hopefully i can cure this and/or prevent this from getting worse. It's not bad at all really, but i can definitely see the signs of aging, at least in terms of what i had before. When i tried this for the first time, i didn't use a blow dryer. My suggestion is, USE A BLOW DRYER.This works 10x better when you use a blow dryer right after. When i tried it the first time without blow drying it, it took forever for the spray to dry. When it did, it was very patchy, it didn't make my hair "fluffy" which is what i was going for.The whole concept to this thickening spray is not really to "add" hair, but to give you the illusion of a lot of hair, or basically making your thin hair thicker, creating that illusion. Thus this being called, "thickening spray".When i used it the 2nd time, this time i had a blow dryer. I bought a very cheap one here on Bolo for 9 bucks. Best 9 bucks spent ever. I'll do a review on that later. But when i used the dryer, instantly every strand of hair became thick and fluffy. Right before my eyes. I was very happy. I do about 6-7 sprays on slightly damp hair after a shower and i blow dry it on low heat. You only need to hit the hair for about 20-25 seconds and style it as your blow drying it. This will make everything fluffy and the hair holds where you styled it. It's not as stiff as real hair spray but who wants rock hard hair anyway? Now onto my rating. I gave 4 stars for 2 reasons.1: i don't like the way it smells. It's not a bad smell at all but it's very feminine. Since i'm a guy i don't want my hair smelling like a girl.2: after a couple of hours, your hair does feel "nappy". Almost like it's sticky. It's not bad but the fluffiness is still there but the hair develops like a sappy feel to it. Idk it feels nappy to me.Overall i'm very happy with this and i will continue to buy this since this bottle is small. I don't style my hair everyday so i can see this little bottle lasting at least 3-4 months, if i style it a couple days a week.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good by itself, Great with a volume iron!
My hair had a tendency to always go limp at the roots. Any attempts at volume would be gone by the end of the day. When I use the boldify spray, there is a definite improvement in my hair. I have more lift at the roots and it lasts the whole day. However, I started using this in conjunction with a volumizing iron for even greater volume! I got a $20 volumizing iron (waffle pattern) from Ali Express (no need to buy the expensive brand names) just search Ali express for volumizing iron. The iron creates texture in the under layers of your hair to enhance volume and the Boldify spray helps hold the texture in place. Together they are a dynamo! Boldify was good by itself but it’s amazing combined with the iron. My hair looks like it did when I was middle school! I’m ecstatic.
Does not work as it describes
I bought this for my wedding and I used it several times but it does not cover the boldness or make my hair think, not worth it.
Not worth the money !!
Works great but too too expensive . Used it only a dozen times and it ran out and it costs $60 for that little bottle . Not worth the wait or the money .
Very good product
It is quite amazing. Hair looks much better when applied. Ill buy again.
Great for super fine hair
Excellent product! For anyone with super fine hair - this is worth every penny. My hair felt and looked thicker. Also found that after blow drying my hair style held longer. Last the whole day with falling flat. I’m happy with this purchase
