5.0 out of 5 stars Great show/Office boots, doesn't disappoint in the field
What they have been through:Can't show pictures because I fell into a lake (with these boots on) and my phone camera is messed up. Very well made and good looking boots. I've wore them for the better part of a year now and put them through a lot of abuse. I've ran I don't know how many miles in them, I did 4 or 5 8+ mile ruck at high pace and did land nav with my not so bright squad leading me up and down a small mountain all day. I got red clay all over them and after a few more days of use there's no sign of the clay at all. I have no fingernails because I refuse to protect my hands whatsoever so I frequently untie these boots with the blade of a knife, and I know it's just nylon but the laces are holding up nicely especially the aglets. I use the aglet to assist in untying on all of my footwear, my 150 dollar pair of running shoes had the aglets break and come off, I've owned then and used them basically the same amount of time as these boots and the aglets aren't really showing any signs of wear.Pros:True to size: I struggle with some brands because of my weird and probably messed up feet, these boots fit nicely and feel great.Lightweight: these boots are very lightweight especially in comparison to the issued boots. NFS I'm pretty sure stands for need for speed, and these boots will help you get that.Grip: I thought I would slide around In these things but I was able to climb a 70ish degree muddy slope with some technique. I never had a moment when grip was something I didn't have wearing these boots.Value: these boots retail about 170$ on garmonts website, I don't know how Bolo gets them cheaper but they are definitely worth the money. Lots of people I know wear them and highly recommend them.Cons:Outsole thickness: the rubber it's made of is good stuff but the non aggressive tread means you are going to be on slicks after a year or two of heavy use, which isn't bad, but you will get alot more life out of the garmont falcons. I did most of my running in running shoes but after nearly a year my tread is almost flat in the front and back. Everything in between seems almost untouched.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Boots for rucking and daily wear!
I don’t usually write reviews, but I was just recommending these boots to a couple buddies, and felt compelled to write this.Owned for 4 years now. These are the best boots I’ve owned. I’ve done hundreds of miles of heavy rucking in these boots. Did the Bataan and Norwegian multiple years with dozens of training rucks in between.Couple things to note:1. GET THE WIDE version (unless you have very narrow feet). They run narrow. I took a recommendation from a buddy who is a monster Rucker. He told me get the wide. He was right. They fit perfect from day 1.2. Bypass the metal eyelets on the side with your laces. I initially laced them using the side eyelets. The first few rucks I did, they put way too much pressure on the tops of my feet. Once I bypassed the metal eyelets, they were perfect.3. I have owned these for 4 years and have worn them daily for work (Army) in addition to rucking—in the field, summer, winter, rain, snow, mud, dust, etc. They are still in excellent condition. No sole separation, original laces, all stitching perfect.4. Extremely light and comfortable. I have never needed to use aftermarket sole inserts or anything.5. I used to struggle with sole imbalance on some of the heavier soled army issue boots. I would experience uneven wear on the outer heel. That has not been an issue with these boots. I don’t know if it is because they “fixed” my stride due to their excellent construction or what, but take that for what it is. No uneven wear on the soles.I will be replacing them soon with another pair because after 4 years the soles are a little worn down. Not nearly as much as you would think, but it is probably time for another pair.
5.0 out of 5 stars Best boots!!
I bought these boots because I had ftx and could not wear my basic training boots anymore and everyone was telling me to buy these and I'm so glad that I did because even though I got these the day before ftx started, my feet still didn't hurt nearly as bad as if I wore those basic training boots. These things are light and really comfortable even not broken in. I'm also glad I listened to everyone else because I bought the wide version of these, and it fit my feet perfectly.
5.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable, Durable
Excellent boot. Breaths well, the small lugs give excellent traction up slope or down with minimal carry over of debris stuck to the sole/lugs. Sizing, the toe box is lower than most tactical style boots, which makes its fit well and its stability extremely good but I did need a half size larger than my normal size for a proper fit. Lacing requires minimal adjustment since the boot itself, if sized right, provides the proper support with the laces only needed for minor adjustments. Not waterproof but water resistant. Continual use 12+ hours in 90F daily, couldn't be happier with the boot.
4.0 out of 5 stars A great lightweight combat boot
These come highly recommended by a lot of military personnel. I too find these boots to be light, supportive and comfortable for being on your feet for long periods. These do alright on long rucks, but I can tell that the soles are thinner and I am left wanting a little more cushion, but that is my preference; these might be perfect for you, so give them a shot. One complaint is, for the size that fits my foot length, the laces on top need to be cinched to such a degree that the inside seams press on the top of my foot and makes it noticeably uncomfortable. I wish the seams were less pronounced on the interior, it would makes these perfect.
Order a half size up, and expect to break them in
I love these boots so far, having put a couple hundred kilometres into them since purchase. Before you buy, I do recommend you keep a few things in mind:I found that the size worked well for me when I ordered a half-size up from what I expected. I wear compression socks and have inserted plantar fasciitis insoles, and the fit is snug but comfortable that way. They do not move around, cause no undue fatigue, and sit exactly where they should. As some reviewers have mentioned, there is a possible hot spot on top of your foot where one of the rivets pushes downwards into the boot. In my case, I found that the pressure was relieved as long as I made sure to pull the boot's tongue taut after inserting my foot - the tongue of the boot was bunching under the rivet and causing pressure, so when the tongue is pulled into its proper position that pressure is removed. This takes almost no extra time while donning the boots and has managed the issue completely for me, though I imagine people with differently shaped feet may have a different experience. The boots come with some rudimentary water resistance, though I do recommend hitting them with an extra coat of your favourite leather/suede waterproofing solution for good measure if you intend to take them anywhere that is constantly damp. As you might expect from this type of boot, however, that won't help you if you step into water that is more than about ankle deep, as the water makes its way into the boot around the tongue and through the lacing holes (in my experience, anyway). On the plus side, they dried out very quickly with no more work than simply opening them up fully and setting them aside overnight.I hope that helps someone!
Very comfy, but...
Nothing like a sneaker, or a pair of running shoes like I had hoped.I was looking for a new pair of boots for a ruck march event in July. I'm about 6 ft, 190 lb, and I needed something I could ruck in for at least 20 to 25 miles a day. I wish I could say that these boots were perfect for such activity right out of the box, but they missed the mark by just a little bit.The inserts in them are rather thin, with no support in the arch. After the first five or six miles in them, my heels were hurting pretty good. Long story short, I had to swap them out for inserts. I wanted to use the custom fitted Dr Scholl's inserts (that you can buy on base for example) but, after I took out the original insoles and put the Dr Scholl's ones in, the boots were no longer comfortable on the pads of my feet. The workaround I have found is removing the insoles that come with the boots, and putting in a pair of insoles from a pair of Converse shoes. I just rucked about 20 miles last weekend with that method and though my feet were tired, they weren't destroyed.Ultimately, I was looking for a pair of boots that felt like Altras or a similar running shoe in terms of lightweight, and comfiness. These did not meet that mark. Nevertheless, they are sturdy, and once broken in, rather comfortable for rucking.
Fantastically comfortable and great quality
Really enjoying wearing these boots
A Comfortable and Lightweight Military Boot
The shoes are really light, comfortable and sturdy. The laces are nice and feel good when laced up. The cushioning of the Ortholite insoles are really nice and it feels soft. Overall it's a really good military boot. I would get more pairs in the future.
Super lightweight, no need to break them in.
As a customer ordering online (I'm Singaporean), my first fear was purchasing the wrong size. Thanks to the community in the reviews section, I nailed my sizing first time.1. If you're wearing normal socks, and you are a US 10, buy these in 10.5.2. I rock thicker merino wool socks. 10.5 will be snug. 11 was just right for me.You can always tighten your laces. But you cant magically expand your shoe overnight, so take note. Wrt wide vs regular, I cant really comment. Wide fits perfect for me, with a little bit of wiggle room for my toes.Outsoles were extremely grippy and felt like they have a slight bounce to it. You will notice it when you start to jog on your rucks.Overall, these boots are the most comfortable I have ever worn. I was in the military for a few years and every boot I owned then felt like they were trying to give me a hard time on purpose. These Garmont NFS boots were designed to SUPPORT me, which I appreciate. Upon receipt yesterday, i brought it for a 6km fast ruck with 45lb load and it was a dream. I bought insoles to use with these boots, but realised I didn't need them at all. Garmont NFSes come with orthotic insoles. Boots felt like they were carefully designed and built with the end user in mind, with only the best quality materials. It's a shame we dont find boots like this in our domestic market. There's only 1 regret I have: not discovering this sooner.
