5.0 out of 5 stars Works well
I bought this for use during a kitchen renovation. It heats very well, and I have never had to put it past a 2 to cook things like eggs, bacon, fried rice. I think I may have cranked it up to a 4 to boil a big pot of water for some pasta. I didn’t think it was slow in doing that either, but I didn’t time it.I have been using a pan that has a bottom that is about the same diameter as the burner area which is 8 inches. I feel that the center does heat up more effectively than the outside but when I cook, I tend to move things around the pan anyway.
5.0 out of 5 stars Works great, gets really hot
I bought this for shooting cooking demonstration videos since I can't shoot on my regular stove in the kitchen. It takes a while to fully heat up to the highest level (~5-7 minutes), but once hot, works great. Good enough to get a nice hard sear in a cast iron skillet. I also like the wide, stable base.
4.0 out of 5 stars Decent; good longevity, but slow for boiling as others noted
Quick snapshot:++ Durable and long-lasting++ Very portable+ Easy cleaning-- Slow to boil more than 24oz of water :(- Once it has been on you should not move it without oven mitts on as the sides get too warm to handle+/- Initial heatup process produces an odour - you may want to do this outside somewhere a child or animal can't accidentally touch itIn-depth review:Bought it pre-pandemic when our home was being demolished and replaced with a prefab, the whole family was living in a garage together for the few weeks it took. This thing was used every single day for about an hour and it performed excellently. Then, once the virus hit but before we had access to the now widely available rapid tests, I wanted to sequester myself to try to protect my family after I was exposed. I used this hotplate inside the guest bedroom so I did not need to leave the room or ask others to cook for me. (photo attached of the isolation set up)I've had the hotplate for a total of 3 years now and it has never had an issue. After the break-in heating the manual tells you to do, I never had it smoke without cause or get too hot in inappropriate areas (like the heat control knob) that others experienced. Definitely set it where you want it for the whole cook time - once it has been running for more than 5 mins on high I would recommend never attempting to move it without oven mitts on because the sides become too hot to comfortably touch. With how thin and compact this is I'm not surprised and don't consider this unreasonable but it may matter to someone else. It has never damaged any surface it has been set on so although I can't handle it barehanded it is not so hot as to harm plastics or wood. As other reviewers noted, it can be extremely slow to boil larger pots of water - to me this is the number one downside. For pasta with around 24oz of water it would boil around 7-12 minutes, but if you needed a higher water level, say closer to a half gallon's worth, it would be 25-30 minutes before the pot boiled.A final note for those who do decide to buy this - when you first purchase it I highly recommend doing the initial warm-up run outside (though somewhere a child or pet would not touch it!) or in a well-ventilated garage; I'm not sure if I recall correctly, it may have been to get an anti-rust shipping coating of oil off the cast iron surface? The instruction manual was quite clear, it's just been three years since I did it. Boy did it have an odour during that first run, but never again after that.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Small Spaces
Love the small profile, has great heat retention, and is easy to clean. It does get hot on the other parts of the burner plate, so be cautious not to touch the non-burner portions. Works very well with all cookware and is easy to store
5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommend! 5⭐
I'm extremely pleased with this "Cuisinart" Countertop Single Burner, because it performs exactly as described and expected! 👍👍It arrived quickly, in perfectly new condition, without damage or blemishes.FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE MANUAL (!!!), it's very easy to use and to clean (I took the pictures after using it a couple of times already). It's heavy enough to stay put and sit sturdy on a flat surface, without wobbling or shifting in any direction.About HEAT CONTROL, it's important to know that, before putting a pot or a pan to cook on it, the burner should always be brought to the desired temperature setting FIRST (when the green READY light is on)! Also, try not to cook with pots and pans that are way too big or too wide for the size of the burner. Otherwise you might experience a slower cooking process that will end up in frustration and undeserved bad reviews, like so many here, unfortunately... USE COMMON SENSE!I'm so glad I didn't pay much attention to the low rating reviews and decided to purchase, regardless! Here are some key functional features:- time to bring the burner ready to the maximum (5) temperature setting = 5 min. (less time for lower settings!)- time to bring a 1 gallon pot of water only to a boil (with the lid on!) = 10 min. (on 5 setting)- time to bring a gallon of soup to a boil (depending on consistency!) = 15-20 min. (on 5 setting)So, what's not to like about it?In a nutshell: IT'S WORTH BUYING!
5.0 out of 5 stars Really Impressed!
I had glass top induction cook top, it lasted a year. It took forever to heat up, and was difficult to adjust the temperature. Once it was boiling it took a lifetime to get to where it would simmer. Hard to keep clean as drips cook on to the glass top and you cannot wipe them off completely-always a mark left on the glass.I love this cast iron top-heats up quickly, and is easy to adjust. I would buy it again.Revised:Worked fine for one and a half months then it stopped working after it started blowing fuses. It would turn on for about 60 seconds and then turn off when I went to check the fuses. I could see if they were blown. Over the 30 day return and now they’re going to mail me a new one I don’t think I really want a new one. I don’t want to take a chance again seems a little dangerous to me. OK
3.0 out of 5 stars Does not work for canning.
I saw a video where this is said to work for canning. It did not work for me with my presto PC. The whole item gets very hot also. I had to put a board under it on my counter. I will keep it for camping but does not work for canning.
Surprisingly Efficient Burner!
Doing a kitchen reno & needed a burner to cook from. Was skeptic all about the efficiency of these burners. So far was easily able to boil vegetables, pasta & potatoes on high. Was just as easily able to simmer rice. Water gets to boiling temperature as quickly as my stove burner. All pot types fit on it. Easy to clean. Will be using in future when I need an extra burner.
Hornilla eléctrica de alta calidad
La mejor hornilla eléctrica que encontré en Bolo, ya la he estado utilizando por varios meses y funciona a la perfección, es altamente recomendable.
Good but not great for everything
This is a good hotplate with reasonable power. I bought this for pressure canning because my stove controls are behind the large pot whereas this unit's control is in the front. It does the job but due to lower wattage takes exponentially longer to reach pressure. The control is very good once at pressure because the cast iron burner is slow to lose heat, however the overall added time was just too much and I went back to the stove for pressure canning. This unit is still great for general purpose cooking. Something to consider is the cast iron burner takes a very long time to cool down and the overall unit gets quite warm so it may take a while to be safely transported after use in a "portable" setting.
STRONG STRONG BOil!!! HEAT LASTS AN HOUR
I am re writing this review. I’ve been using this hotplate daily. It is very good. At first I didn’t think it could come to a boil. But I was very very wrong. This hot plate comes to a strong strong boil. Yes it goes up to five. But treat 5 as Max on a regular stovetop and treat two or three as five. Another great thing is it holds its heat for an hour after. So I can literally make oatmeal, bring to a boil, turn the heat right off, and it will continue to boil and bubble for at least ten minutes, and it will continue to simmer for another twenty. It’s very efficient this way for those looking to save on electricity. LOVE IT!
Excellent hot plate
We use it for canning and it works excellent. We wish we could find one with the larger burner because the pot we put it on is quite a bit larger than the burner but being the old-style pot it heats up and works excellent. Easy to store and use anywhere.
