5.0 out of 5 stars Great kit, 4 beautiful species, no stratificattion needed. Would recommend.
The kit contains everything you need to start bonsai trees. I do recommend getting a bigger pot and replacing the peat soil with akadama soil after the seeds germinated. In my experience, the Picea Abies seeds have the low germination success (1 out of 4 seeds) and Jacaranda Mimosifolia (2 of 6 seeds). The Jacaranda Mimosifolia takes a long time to germinate so be patient with that one. Pinus Arista and Delonix Regia were able to germinate successfully and rapidly although scarification is recommended for Delonix Regia since its shell is extremely hard and waterproof. NONE OF THE SEEDS REQUIRES STRATIFICATION PROCESS. :D Don't expect immediate results and beautiful trees since these are seeds and requires years to grow before training. Overall, a good and well-priced kit for a beautiful ancient art.Update: 3 monthsAll the trees are growing nicely. One of the Delonix died, the other is starting to die. Found out they are really sensitive to water and temperature so do not over water it/leave in extreme temps. (The leaves open and close in relation to environmental condition) This has happened before but it came back. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE PEAT SOIL FOR THIS TREE.The Jacaranda Mimosifolia starts off slow but began to grow really rapidly; main trunk is starting to show signs of barks and hardening. The remaining pine-like trees are still alive but grows really really slowly, not much noticable growth since one month in.
5.0 out of 5 stars One month update
Very pleased with the product Followed Instructions book to the t and have success with several seeds in each of the tree types acept Norway spruce. That is the only one that did not work. The royal poinciana are the big seed ones those did not sprout and after 2 weeks I inspected it and saw the seeds did not change at all so I used infant nail clippers and clipped the tips of the seeds and re planted. They sprouted within days of doing this. I would recommend this kit for sure and would buy again. Very fun and rewarding
4.0 out of 5 stars Such a cool beginner kit
This kit cones with all the essentials to get your new hobby started. I started all of mine and they all bloomed so not too shabby! The instructions were easy to follow and detailed enough to inspire my confidence. My only complaint is the containers get discolored easy with excess moisture and look moldy, so I’d suggest just getting some small drainage pots to start with.
5.0 out of 5 stars Satisfied so far!
I bought this with a gift card I got for Christmas. I have two black thumbs, but I'd like to change that, and growing a tree from a seed sounded fun.I started just planting the Norway Spruce. The instruction booklet was very clear and easy to follow, but I was disappointed to see that 3 of the 5 seeds floated and so were not good for planting. Of the two that were plantable, one sprouted. It would be nice to get a few more extra seeds because it seems like it would be easy to get 5 bad ones that won't sprout, but maybe the company would send more seeds in that case.I got my first little sprout a few weeks after planting, and of course that was the day my brother's dog found the pot and tore it up. I managed to recover my little guy and replanted him, and a week later he's still sprouting, so hopefully he'll keep it up.Overall I think this is a nice kit and easy to use. If you're ready to try your hand at growing your own bonsai, this is worth the money.Edit 4/8/2020: I did end up having two of the seed types fail, so I contacted the company to see if they'd send me replacement seeds, and they did! 5 stars well earned.
3.0 out of 5 stars Patience is key and lots of research
I’ll try to update when I have a more bonsái looking tree but for now I’ll share my experience so far. The sowing of the seeds is pretty straight forward however I do think the royal seed needs more info. Within the first week I saw the Rocky Mountain pine sprout then the blue j seeds sprouted and 3 weeks passed and the other two nothing. I had done a lot of research through out this time and decided I’d try to help my other two seeds to sprout. I read that the royal seeds can be hard for sprouts to sprout because of its tough skin and need to be scored to help the sprout push it’s way out. So I took them all out found one was already sprouting and had an inch of root already grown but the seed skin was to heavy for it to push it up so I fixed that one and scored the rest and reburied them laying flat not to deep in soil and waited. One week later I had two new sprouts for a total of 3. The others were duds. I tried helping the Norway spruce but they are nowhere to be found in the soil I didn’t sow them deep I followed instructions did some more research on top of what the booklet info had but it seems like all the Norway spruce seeds were duds. Which sucks but 3/4 isn’t so bad. The blue and rocky so easily sprouted it was exciting to see. The royal just needed a little extra help but also exciting. It actually feels therapeutic to troubleshoot the trees and to check on them daily make sure they are fine gently fix them or move them when necessary. I bought a little sun light strip and they are currently located indoors on an empty shelf with the sun light strip above them on the lowest setting for 12 hrs a day I don’t water them to often because they aren’t in proper pots. Overall good deal I don’t think the kit is expensive for what you get.Moving on to the consOnly 3/4 seeds sproutedNorway spruce never germinated and they seem to have disappeared. The booklet has very little helpful info your better off going on google and YouTube. The coco soil stuff keeps growing some type of mold fuzz on top like white fuzz sometimes turning into bluish greenish fuzz if you leave it. I’m not overwatering them I let the soil start to dry before even watering them again and I don’t give them a lot of water when I do.The burlap style pot isn’t very good for this use. It isn’t leaking fluid but I can feel the outside of it is moist more so on the bottom. The burlap pots don’t offer good drainage which is very much needed for these trees. While pretty I would have much preferred some cheap plastic pots with drainage at the bottom. My guess is maybe that’s why the fuzz starts to grow. Maybe it has to do with the coco I’m not sure. I think they could probably change out the types of pots for cheap plastic drainage friendly ones.Overall tho not bad for the price I did get it with a coupon I think it was 12-15 in total. I will not however give it 4-5 stars because of the dud seeds and the fuzz that myself and others have experienced growing on the top of their soil and because of the non conducive pot as well as the booklet they count as an add on bonus that lacks info on bonsai practice and the seeds and even the basics on how and when to cut your tree sprout to start the bonsai process because if you just plant this and keep repotting this eventually you’ll have a normal sized tree thinking it’s somehow supposed to stay small and be a cool mini tree because you were sold bonsai tree seeds. Anyways I hope this info helps I’ll update pictures whenever I remember to on this review.
Muy un buen kit
Me gustó mucho este kit viene con lo necesario y con una guía muy detallada sobre los pasos a seguir.
Very neat!
I bought these as Christmas presents and they were an absolute hit! Such a neat gift!Only thing I didn't realize before purchase is that only 1 soil disc is provided per kit. I would recommend buying more soil discs separately if you plan on planting more than one bonsai.
Fue un regalo y he quedado fatal.
No llega a salir nada de estas semillas
Sehr zufrieden
Bin zufrieden.
Quality Throughout
I originally bought this product as a gift for a friend. I was so thrilled with the apparent quality of the Starter Kit that I decided to purchase a second one for myself. The kit contains everything you require to get started. The instruction booklet inside was most informative with clear instructions. The seeds provided were of a good quality (not a single one floated after a 24hr soak!). I have just finished sowing the seeds in the pots & compost provided and am now looking forward to seedlings appearing in the next few weeks.
