5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic sound! Best value small media speakers in this price range!

I've had these for about a week and I'm very impressed! I'm an audio engineer by profession so I'm naturally hyper critical regarding speaker sound quality, balance, and tone. I have lots of experience with both similarly priced monitors this size and ones that cost10x as much, designed for critical listening SO, the verdict? Before I get technical, these1280DB speakers are simply SATISFYING and very PLEASANT to listen to for most genres of music, TV & movies and spoken content. Bass is natural, low mids are full and punchy, highs are crisp and most importantly, the mids are clear and detailed. They hold their own compared to $$$ Dynaudios! They are smooth like ribbon-tweeter ADAMs. Bose fans will probably not like these as the EQ curve is not over hyped in the lows nor brittle in the highs.Getting this sound along with 2 analog inputs, 2 digital inputs, bluetooth AND a useable on-board EQ AND a remote with a Mute button (!!) is simply unheard of at well under $150.If you are looking to upgrade your media center in a bedroom or small living space, listen to a variety of music and content for extended hours do not pass these up! Your won't find better with these features. I'm getting another set for the bedroom.TL;DRAre there better speakers out there? Absolutely. But not with this feature set and well planned multi-use I/O. If you like extremes (massive bass, head frying treble and volumes that will rattle your glassware, these aren't for you. If you like to be right there in the studio with Miles Davis recording Kind of Blue, hearing nuance and tone, these are for you. There is ZERO listening fatigue at up to 90% of max volume for hours! Fatigue is commonly found with speakers of this size (Bose) and class that commonly sound ok for about 15 minutes until your ears fight off the painfully hyped EQ curve by reducing your sensitivity to bass and treble, leaving a messy and tiring midrange. Rather, these Edifers can be placed in a small living room and sound great all over the room. Great for passive listening as well as focused listening. Excellent stereo imaging too. They don't get crazy loud (you can speak loudly over them at 90% volume - above 95% distortion starts to enter and your don't want that) but are plenty loud for small to mid size rooms. There's bass for sure, but they don't thump. And you shouldn't expect that for ~$130 unless you want fake fatigue thump. To get true thump you need a woofer cone at least 6" , pref 8". To outdo these speakers you're looking at $200+ and half the features. No, they are not flat but the inherent EQ curve works amazingly well. I can critically judge mixes on these. They sound natural in the bass, crisp but soft in the high freq and most importantly they have a CLEAR, nicely balanced low-mids to mids to high-mids range. And these are " computer speakers " per se! I would use these in a pro studio if I had to.And look, sound is extremely subjective. You'll get 100 different opinions from 100 ppl. But your can trust that all things equal, you will surely enjoy the sound of these. They have a tone to them that is just RIGHT, and not all wonky in some random freq area or phase issue like most other small format consumer models.Edifer nailed it with these and I don't know how they kept them under $150. Don't pass these up. They sound fantastic! From minute 1 to hour 12.

I'm no audiophile, but one need not be an audiophile to know when they've encountered a quality product. The Edifier R1280DB Powered Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers are a quality product. The first thing I noticed is how attractive the speakers are. They'll look great anywhere and are small enough to tuck away if they need to be out of sight. The construction is solid and tight and the materials are clearly of superior quality. It took me maybe three minutes to set them up. I plugged one speaker into the wall and ran the speaker wire (provided) from one unit to the other. I turned the power on and quickly noticed that I could push the volume dial to switch between sound modes (Line, optical/coax or bluetooth). I selected bluetooth and then set my iPad mini to the same. Bam! Instant connection. And then the music started. Holy wow. The sound is gorgeous. There are only three knobs (bass, treble and volume/input), so there isn't much to adjust. I set the knobs to where I typically like them for Jazz. The high notes were crisp and solid. The bass was not heavy, but also not muddy--exceptionally clean. My guess is, if you're someone who wants the bass to crush your chest, then these speakers might be a disappointment. But if you want a crisp, clean bass that provides a solid foundation in reality--you will not be disappointed. Honestly, I felt like I was in a professional studio listening to music as it is meant to be heard (not so my my living room). So, if you want some nice looking, compact speakers that are easy to use and sound amazing--buy these. Well worth the money.

The frequency range on these is so much wider than our TVs... Duh moment for sure. I laughed at myself the first time I heard some of the bass frequencies and thought it was the cats running around upstairs! LOLWe got these to replace one of those small desk size bluetooth speakers.... That was what we used to use in bed to hear the TV more clearly. These Edifier R1280DB speakers are just kick butt! I got the Bluetooth version because I didn't want to run wires by the sliding glass door. They sound fantastic. They have no real latency that I can detect (I'm sure there is some, but it's less than we see from the old, admittedly ancient, Sony soundbar in the Family Room that's connected via the fiber). The price is just remarkable on these. They punch way above their weight. But, I hope they don't go up any time soon, I do need to do something about that soundbar! Seriously, I cannot recommend these enough for something like our use, bedroom speakers. probably even family room speakers. I am tempted ot try a pair with my macBook to see how they are at something like studio monitors as well. I don't know how flat they are, exactly... I wager they'd be great for just all around music listening as well!
