5.0 out of 5 stars Met expectations
ROOFULL’s External CD / DVD Drive is exactly what I needed. Installation was quick & easy. The price was perfect, especially with the drive, including a carrying case. Unfortunately for me, office IT has our new Dell desktops anchored to the back of our monitors 😩. I had to get creative as the Roofull driver data cable is only 7.87 inches. Once connected to the desktop, the driver just hangs off the desktop. 😂 It was very awkward, so I used an old figurine box as a stand for the drive. The drive plays my DVDs perfectly on my work monitor. I was a little concerned because the drive was delivered in a plain zippered plastic bag and not a corrugated box to protect the drive during delivery. The drive’s carrying case is well-made, sturdy, and well-padded, so I felt better about lacking a box. I highly recommend the ROOFULL External CD/DVD with carrying case.
5.0 out of 5 stars Worked great on windows 11 home edition
I bought an HP Windows 11 home edition laptop over a year ago. I then bought an external optical drive which did not work. It was after 30 days when I tried it. I thought it was windows 11 that was the problem but am not teche. So a week ago some friends gave us a video series we really wanted to see. My computer did not see the drive again. I called the laptop computer support and tried a number of other things which made no difference. So ordered the Roofull optical drive because it clearly said it worked on Windows 11, that it had great customer service support, and was a higher-end product than the first one I bought, not Roofull brand. I got it today and it worked immediately. I had already downloaded the VLC program it needs. I made note that many people did not read it does not work on a Chromebook. It comes with a nice protective case, instructions with a downloadable manual which looks very easy to use if you want to burn CD's. If you send them the order number and information you can get a 2-year guarantee on it not just 30 days from Bolo. At 72 I really appreciate customer service and an easy-to-follow manual. I am really so happy to be able to play the external CDs and DVD's I have bought in the past. I was not given any kind of perks to write this. I paid the regular price for the product. I am so happy this one works right out of the box. One comment is that you need to press the DVD on properly and gently until you hear a click for it to be seated properly. Thank you.
4.0 out of 5 stars Works for most tasks but won't burn bin/cue files with ImgBurn.
This is a compact, fairly functional external DVD burner for the asking price. It comes with a nice carrying case, and the 8" USB cable is permanently attached. (So make sure you have a surface for it to sit on within 8 inches of a USB port on your computer.) There's a small cut-out for it to tuck into on the bottom of the unit. It's fine, but I find the unit doesn't sit 100% flat when the cable is out...not really a big deal, though. Aesthetically it's inoffensive, and it sort of recedes into my setup when in use.I picked this up because I have a really tiny case for my PC, and when I built it I figured I wouldn't need a disc drive EVER AGAIN!!... or if I did, I'd get one of these. Well, for various reasons I do indeed want a disc drive, so here I am. I was hoping Blu-Ray drives would have dropped in price by this point - but nope. Still, this was really inexpensive. It burns data discs fine. It burns ISOs fine. It burns audio CDs fine. It burns DVD movies fine. DVD-R and CD-Rs, no problem. For whatever reason, it will -not- burn bin/cue files using ImgBurn, which is sort of what I needed it to do. I keep getting an error about a semaphore timeout. I've tried researching this on old forum threads, and some people seem to point the error to specific disc drives. I do not know, but I can't get it to work. I ended up using my wife's old 2009 Vaio to get the job done instead.Anyway, I realize that's not a common use case these days, but I wanted to note it in case someone comes looking for an external drive for that purpose like I did. I have no reason to believe my PC setup is at fault, and oddly, it burned everything else just fine. I don't really understand, but I'm going to keep this drive because I mostly really do like it and find it handy.
5.0 out of 5 stars I bought another one!
I've been using a ROOFULL External CD DVD Drive Player, CD-Burner USB for a year or so now. I do a radio show on public radio, and unlike the rest of the world, we want our listeners to hear the full sound of the music we send out, not files at only 75% of real sound. So, my cd player is one of the most important machines I have. The Roofull cd player/burner that I was using was affordable, easy to use and was at the end of my arm for lots and lots of use.And then, when I saw the deal of a Roofull cd deck, AND a great case....I had to go for it. The case is wonderful. Lightweight, sturdy, protective...and will be an asset for a long, long time.Between you and me, I did think a bit longer than normal before I made this purchase. Yes, I loved my first 'best- friend', my original Roofull cd deck. But it developed a problem that I did not know how to deal with. I was able to work around it for a good while, but finally, a disc was trapped inside and I couldn't use the device any longer. So I thought long and hard before making this purchase. But then, I figured that having to replace a device every other year, that I use for hours and hours every week, and purchased at a very affordable price...is not a bad place to be. So I bet on a winner. Hopefully, if the same problem crops up this time I will take the time to contact customer service to see if there's a fix.My advice? Go for it! It's a good deal any day of the week. And the case is cool...
Muy buen producto.
Muy buen producto, ha funcionado perfectamente con todos mis cds, muy util ya las laptop nuevas no traen esta unidad.
Works Perfectly!
Took 3 days for my order to arrive. The external drive was packaged inside its black carrying case, which was packaged inside a handy re-sealable clear plastic pouch. I really appreciated having all of this extra padding because it's easy for electronics to get damaged in the mail.Set the unit on top of my space gray Mac Mini (2018) and plugged the USB 3.0 cable (which is hardwired into the base of the unit) directly into the back of the computer as per the manufacturer's instructions (NOTE: they say it likely won't work by plugging it into a hub... they are correct as I did try that later on just to see if it would or not). Pushed the eject button, inserted an old music CD and pushed the tray back in. Loaded up in seconds, imported the songs using the Apple Music App, then clicked the eject button on my screen to re-open the tray. Did a half-dozen discs this evening and it all worked perfectly! This unit is exactly what I was looking for, in the colour I was looking for, for the price I was looking for. No compatibility issues, no software, just plug n' play.I really like that:- the unit is black: it matches my computer setup.- it's extremely light and portable: I have a desk setup but anyone needing to take theirs on the go, no problem.- the tray is not motorized: less parts to break down over time and no CDs getting trapped inside.- the unit has a tiny hole to manually released the tray door if for some reason it will not open.- it cost $35, compared to $95 for a Mac Superdrive.- works perfectly on a Mac! I can still rip CDs using AAC encoding because the Mac handles all of that.- there's no software to load: plug and play! The only thing I'm not overly excited about is the USB 3.0 cable: it's short (but works for my setup thankfully) and it's hardwired into the base of the unit, so it cannot be detached. For $35 you've got nothing to lose if you need a unit like this to rip CDs, watch DVDs, etc.
Does what it says on the tin
Bought to supplement the disk drive on my lap top which is awkwardly placed and somewhat temperamental. It does the job and the mechanism is slightly more robust than the HP drive.
Easy to use
Great product! Easy plug and play. Able to read fast. Havent tried writing yet but so far its great!
Good Quality
I can use with my MacBook Pro 2020 perfectly. it's easy-friendly. no problem at all. I highly recommend this product.
