Rubbermaid has remained a great American company and this product reminded me why I always end up buying their stuff. The container, which is perfect for keeping rice (or anything else) dry and free from the air, is made of top notch sturdy plastic of some kind that is food safe as all their products are. It is completely see through except the sturdy and well-made snap down lid locks that are easy to snap down, and pull up. When you have unlocked the top lid holders you need to pull the lid off as it has a silicone inner seal for extra protection. It takes a slight tug to remove the lid, but that is good; your food stays very fresh. You can always see how much you have, or don't have, of anything in it. If you are carrying it the top has parts that stick out that make it easy to carry around without worrying about it slipping through your hands. The one I bought is the smaller one and it's a perfect size for my cupboard, and yet holds a good amount of rice. Anyway I am back here for some more for other dry foods as this product has been home tested, and approved, by the whole family, including males who generally don't notice such things.

I have accidentally become something of an expert in storageware. I live in the tropics, on the windward side of Oahu, essentially in the rain forest. We have humidity close to 100% year round, and everything that comes with it: mold, fungus, insects. After a bout with pantry moths, which required throwing away hundreds of dollars worth of food, cleaning and replacing shelf liners, etc.... I got serious about sealing everything up. I have bought literally dozens of containers. Most which describe themselves as "airtight" or waterproof, are not. I hate to say that we have gone through clearing everything out more than once...after bring home an infestation from a local health food store.I had one or two pieces from the Rubbermaid brilliance line and was really impressed with therm. It is crystal clear (even afte4r going through the dishwasher) and has what is effectively a vacuum seal. It not only keeps food feresh longer (in and out of the fridge) but it also keeps humidity and insects out. They are expensive, but they are also durable and very effective.When my husband brought home a 50 lb. bag of flour I searxched through my colection for large containers to store it in, not having room for a bag that size in the freezer. Flour does not do wel in a humid environment! I did not have enough airtight containers to put it all away, and so came back to Bolo to buy some more. After lots of searching I came back to the Rubbermaid brilliance collection. I already knew it was the best (to include OXO, which Bolo lists as the best). I beg to differ. OXO was very good, but the new line is not as good as the old, in terms of keeping things dry.All that said, this was purchased for flour, but it really is not large enough if you are trying to store a large bag. It will not fit a 5 lb. bag of flour (in or out of the bag). It will, however, fit a 5 lb. bag of sprouting seeds, perfectly! I wish there were a way to link this on the page for those seeds because it works so well. That is another thing which is quickly spoiled if wet. This is doing a great job of keeping them dry, and looks nice nough to leave on the counter.

It will hold more than a large box’s worth of detergent. Seal is quality and the latches work well.It feels like it will work for years to come as long as it isn’t dropped when full of detergent too many times. I’m not sure if it would survive one drop from counter height when it’s full as it weighs quite a bit.

I've purchased several of these Rubbermaid Brilliance containers in different sizes to hold pantry staples such as flour, sugar, rice, etc. They make a tight seal, yet are easy to open. Crystal clear to show the contents without opening. Stackable. I've been able to organize our pantry using these. I am pleased with my purchase.

Review of Rubbermaid Brilliance Pantry Airtight Food Storage Container BPA-free plastic, 12 cup
I have the largest Rubbermaid Airtight plastic container that I use for storing flour. I like the large one for flour as it is airtight, a nice size to fit in my cupboard. I bought this 12 cup one thinking it was the same size as the one I own. It is smaller. However I store sugar in it, and it is sufficiently large enough to store a medium size bag of sugar ? 2 or 4 kg bag of sugar.
Overrated. Not airtight. Not ants-proof
I’ve had high expectations after seeing so many rave reviews on these containers. Was not impressed. First of all, the packaging was terrible. 4 containers dumped into an Bolo box without any additional protection. The containers were badly scratched and there were marks all over. One especially looked like it’s been used. The silicon around the underside of the lid makes it leak proof (I suppose though I didn’t test with liquids), but I don’t think it’s that airtight at all cos top part of the plastic lid is thin and just sits on the rim without much of a tight seal. I put some dry food in the containers and sure enough, within 2 days ants were crawling under the lid around the silicon. I’ll go back to using my old clickclack containers - the lids are very inconvenient to wash but at least they’re super airtight, unlike these.
Pretty & Perfect!
They look great! I love that they look like glass too and you can see everything. The amount of times I’ve wasted food because I’ve forgotten what’s inside due to coloured or opaque containers is crazy. These are perfect and they have a really good seal on them to keep things fresh.
