Until I found this Ethique shampoo bar, I had never thought about all the industrial chemistry in regular shampoo. The chemistry is no good for your hair, while soaps contaminate surface water and threaten the existence of many wild animals. My old shampoo had 17 ingredients, mostly soaps and salts, with only 2 natural safe ingredients 9 (honeysuckle extract & aloe barbadensis leaf). The other 15 ingredients were industrial chemistry. In my experience, if you can't pronounce it, you shouldn't rub it onto your body. In contrast, this Ethique bar has 17 ingredients, none of which are environmentally destructive soaps & 7 are natural ingredients, including cocoa seed butter, coconut oil, lime oil, cinnamon bark extract, ginger root powder and epsom salt. It's also palm oil free, which helps to reduce giant palm tree plantations in developing countries to sell palm oil to Western companies instead of growing their own food sustainably. I use the Sweet & Spicy for fine hair and I love it. It smells great without being overpowering. One caution: it is a very soft shampoo bar. So you have to set it up to dry after showering or it will stay soft and tend to melt. And it cleans great. I wipe the bar across my wet hair 2-3 times then wipe the bar dry and it lathers up easily. And the bar lasts a good long time: I shampooed daily with it for 5 months (157 days, to be exact, sometimes shampooing twice a day in hot weather) until it was gone. So if you are looking for a great natural shampoo bar and love your Mother (Gaia, that is), this is the bar for you. Highly recommended.

Instead of liquid form ... one bar for shampoo and one bar for conditioner ... it cleans well, non-drying affect on the scalp ... the soap conditioner is natural & light ... the shampoo soap has a natural lavender scent. This combo soap set keeps the scalp/hair clean ... reduces scalp itchiness ... due to the purposeful natural ingredients. Looks like the soaps will last awhile, even with daily usage ... both soaps spreads & lathers quickly with water. A very good buy ... will buy it again.

I honestly didn’t have high expectations for a shampoo in a bar (hello?!) but I was amazed at how good it works. Hair is great and super smooth. Mild to no scent, by the way. Just a few strokes will be enough to cover the whole scalp and hair (I have really long hair). So far I’ve been using it twice a week for about a month now. My only concern is that the shampoo bar softened quite quickly after a few uses and something tells me it won’t last 80 washes as noted on the packaging (won’t even get close to that).I will post an update when I’m down to zero 🙃

After 20 years of exclusively using Aveda products, I found myself looking for a new haircare line that was more affordable and utilized less packaging. After reading online reviews I tired Ethique, and could not be happier! I have been using their products for about 8 months now. The Sweet & Spicy shampoo bar, used in combination with the Wonderbar light weight conditioner, give my fine hair volume and make it soft and smooth. I am very sensitive to scents/perfumes, and these products have barely any scent and do not bother me at all. Each bar lasts about 2 months, and they are very easy to travel with. Highly recommend giving Ethique products a try.

I am in total awe of these two product, so much so that I had to write a review. After realizing how much plastic waste I am generating I’ve been on a quest to use as many personal and cleaning products with earth friendly packaging as possible. I always look for clean ingredients too, so I researched shampoo and conditioner bars forever and decide to take a chance on these two products. I have short, thick, somewhat coarse gray hair that is always frizzed up in the morning on the back of my head and craves moisture and oil. I did not expect much, especially because of my hair type that always needs argan oil or other hair conditioners to behave. This set has completely changed my hair in just a few uses! It feels cleaner, softer, more manageable and shinier than it’s ever been. I don’t wake up with a big rooster tail on the back of my head anymore, and it just lays better. Even my use of pomade has been reduced since it looks so much better. It foams up very nicely and is so easy to use in the shower. They are lightly scented, not at all overpowering or artificial smelling. I still have a couple plastic bottles of shampoo and conditioner sitting in my shower, and next to my body, shampoo and conditioner bars all lined up on a slotted wooden tray, they look like old dinosaurs. They give off such a beautiful spa vibe. I’m so happy I decided on this brand and am going to try their deodorant next!
Excellent shampoo bar
Absolutely love this, smells and feels so fresh on my hair. Have been using this shampoo for a while now and it is great on my fine hair, has helped it feel less greasy and I’m getting more time between washes now than before. It also lasts really well so I haven’t had to repurchase often like other types of shampoo bars I’ve tried.
Love this for my curly hair
I have tried so many shampoos over the years but this is definitely my go to. I have ordered another to make sure i hav enough for holiday it froths lovely and leaves my hair really clean
This lasted 5 months and my hair has never felt healthier
This is gentle enough for everyday use but cleans well enough for use every 2-3 days. I've used it according to both frequencies depending on my workout schedule.I love the smell and the texture it leaves my hair with. I can't believe it's been five months and I still have some left.There's no getting around the fact that once you near the end of the bar's life, it breaks into smaller pieces. A minor inconvenience and totally worth enduring for healthy hair and a plastic-free product.
