I took a chance and did DNA testing to find more about myself that I may not have been aware of in the aspects of my abilities in nutrition and exercise. I started this process with the hope that I could develop a more comprehensive diet and exercise plan that my body would be more responsive to in order to achieve my fitness and nutritional goals. The following are my findings from the Fitness, Nutrition, and Skin Product DNA Tests from Dynamic DNA Laboratories:Fitness DNAPain tolerance indications show I have a typical sensitivity, when in fact I have a high tolerance for pain, while this may be different due to experience rather than genetics. The test does a good job of indicating health risk factors. Some of these factors were known while other were not. It also gives recommendations for how to best counteract these factors. It is important to state that the findings are strictly based on your genetic code and your body's ability based on that code. The test does not account for changes from stress or damage done from surgery etc.I like that the results give a recommended workout regimen for best exercise results.I did learn that when I do resistance training (weight training) I will also develop subcutaneous fat. HIIT and endurance training is more beneficial for my gene/body type.Nutrition DNAIt is important to state that not every diet works the same for every person. I was hoping for the best results to come from the Nutrition DNA Test.According to the results, optimizing my diet to reach my goals is based on a low-low-fat diet, while avoiding salts. To maintain my optimum health, I should use a low-carb diet. The test is not assuming your vitamin levels, but it does indicate which vitamins your body is better and worse at absorbing. The results indicate if your body is good at detoxifying itself, or if it needs assistance. The test shows which foods to outright avoid due to sensitivities. Some of the results I wasn’t aware of.I like that it gives recommended meal portions and categories with examples for an optimal diet. (ie. 1 palm of lean protein each meal; eggs/egg whites, meat with visible fat removed, fish...1 cupped handful of smart carbs; oats, quinoa, squash...) These recommendations are of non-conventional portion measurement, which is helpful if you don't want to take out a food scale or measuring cups. It also gives you some sample recipes for your diet type. It does this for both your optimum diet type, and your weight loss diet type. The results even go into detail of what kinds of foods you taste better than others (bitter, salty, sweet, etc.) and it seems pretty accurate. The results of my body’s ability to detoxify are consistent between the skin test and the nutrition test.ConclusionOverall, I believe the DNA testing was helpful in identifying what will work best for my gene type. These results can only be used as a recommendation for what will work best, even then there is no guarantee. A lot of the information is in my opinion, common sense, but it does have a lot of useful information that not every person would know. The suggestion of specific meal types, workout plans, and supplements for the optimal weight loss and management is truly beneficial. I think the Fitness and Nutrition results are far more beneficial for DNA testing than the Skin product, but it depends on what you are looking for or need help with understanding about your body. While I feel like it is lacking in some aspects, I’m not really sure how it could be improved. It is pricey to get it done, which is a bit of a deterrent for most, but it also gives a pretty comprehensive report. Overall I would recommend these products to people who would like more detail on what is best for their gene type.
