This is a fantastic keyboard for anyone who doesn’t need crazy special effects. I’ve been using it for a month with my vocal coach and we both love it! It’s great quality, was really easy to put together and the stand + seat fold down to make it easy to store in a spare closet when not in use. There are some great features (my fave is the transposition because it makes it easy to use the key I want without needing to find different sheet music) and the sound quality is perfect for my needs. I don’t have need for the mic or headphones so I haven’t used them yet, but I imagine they probably work great for practicing alone and not disturbing others too much. All in all, I’m really happy I bought this keyboard!

Now, I have seen the negative reviews as they are the first thing that I turn to. I used to own an Alesis QS8 which was a full 88 keys and fully weighted hammer type keyboard. It was built like a tank and felt like it weighed as much at 55 pounds. Even though it was classified as portable you really needed to have two people to move to a gig. I got rid of it for that reason alone as lighter keyboards came out. It was still a great keyboard when I sold it.This Alesis Melody 54 is nowhere near the QS8 but it serves the purpose that it was intended for. I have two other keyboards, a Yamaha Mod X7 and a Casio PX560. Both are decent in their own rights but are only middle of the road keyboard without the fully weighted hammer action. I bought the Melody 54 so that I could sit in front of the TV and if it was boring, I could practice fingering which is something that I lose if I don’t practice.The Alesis sound may be light sounding compared to either of my other keyboards but it only has enough polophony notes to create basic sounds with no real timber whereas my Casio has 256 polophony notes which can make any note sound richer. The Alesis Melody 54 still doesn’t sound as tinny as the video suggested but it is nowhere near as good a quality as either my Yamaha or Casio.Now, for the action, it has a synth action like my Yamaha but actually heavier, which means that you only have pressure and no little ‘kick’ feel to simulate a piano like my Casio. In case you are wondering why I have two keyboards is that it is easier to play organ and light sounding instruments like flute, trumpets, etc because of the smoother action on the Yamaha, plus I can have it set up and ready to go for certain songs. I am just a middle of the road musician and by no means promote any keyboard. I am just trying to set people straight on what to expect for a $70 keyboard.Also, my Melody 54 keyboard came undamaged and worked perfect right out of the box.If you want a decent hammer action keyboard, expect to pay a minimum of $2500 for something like a Kawaii MP11SE or a Korg. They have passed down some of their top of the line features to more basic models. I would be wary of pawn shop deals unless you have a friend that understands keyboards and pawnshops. Most people that I know or have known wouldn’t pawn a great instrument except as a last resort.If you want a good practice keyboard for learning, I feel that this is a good choice. You can always move up to a higher quality if things take off. I suggest asking online stores as they are usually helpful and not pushy. If you are lucky enough to have a local music dealer, most of them are helpful as well. In fact, you may be able to get this locally at the same price.

We had an antique upright piano in our home when I was a kid. It was a family heirloom, having previously belonged to the family's Favorite Uncle, and left to us when he passed. I plunked on it from time to time, but never got serious about learning to play it. I had other homework to do and the local woods to explore.I recently acquired a book of a favorite author's (Tolkien) poems set to music. There was one song in particular that I wanted to sing, but my sight-reading skills are not what they once were, so I needed a keyboard's assistance to help me learn the song. Hence with my purchasing this Alesis Melody 61.I like the size of the keyboard. With only 61 of a piano's usual 88 keys, it fits nicely into an available spot in my living room, without my having to significantly rearrange my furniture. For most purposes, 5 octaves of keys is sufficient. It was easy to assemble, and I had it up and ready to play in just a few minutes after opening the box. I was able to play through several exercises in the piano lessons books I also purchased, and to fumble through the Hymn to Varda section of "I Sit Beside the Fire" from my Tolkien book. I had a nice feeling of accomplishment by the end of the evening.There are a few areas where there is room for improvement. They keys are a bit stiff, and require more strength to strike and hold than does an actual piano, which can be a bit frustrating. They are also not sensitive to the amount of force used, so the volume the keyboard produces remains the same whether you are lightly pressing or vigorously pounding the keys. Playing dynamic changes in a piece of music is impossible with this keyboard. The tones the keyboard plays are distinctly artificial, too flat and robotic with that harsh, square digital edge common in auto-tuned vocals; it is lacking the analog warmth of an actual piano.The bottom line is that is this a $120 keyboard. It is completely sufficient for learning basic keyboard techniques or plunking out a line of notes to learn the melody of a song from a sheet of music. If you're looking to learn how to play piano, this will get you 80% of the way there. Dynamic control (changing the loudness/softness of the music) is an important part of that skill, though, and you will not learn it with this keyboard. You will also not produce beautiful music with this keyboard, because of the lack of dynamics and the quality of the tones. This is a fine, inexpensive first keyboard to use while figuring out if you want to make the investment in something more "serious". Just don't expect that you're going to use it for your debut at Carnegie Hall!

Very easy to set up and easy to start playing. It has many functions that I have not yet played with. I bought this for my 88 years old mother with dementia and she is really enjoying hitting random keys and hearing some music coming out. I can say it is a great gift for children and elderly. I let the musical people be the judge of it for experts.

Pensé que por el precio sería algo más como de juguete pero la verdad nos sorprendió, es de muy buena calidad y el precio que ofrece Bolo es inigualable. Ya incluye el banco, el soporte, un micrófono,un cargador y un cd para practicar. Nos encantó que puedes usarlo con un eliminador de corriente normal o con pilas para poder transportarlo ya que no es nada estorboso, tiene muchísimas funciones y el sonido es buenísimo. Tambien nos gustó mucho que ya incluyera todo eso por el precio tan bajo porque así no tienes que estar consiguiendo todo por partes. Mi hija lo usa muchísimo para practicar solfeo, lo recomiendo ampliamente. Llevamos un año con el y sigue como nuevo.

Nice cheap basic keyboard
Nice cheap keyboard, perfect for beginners and very casual keyboard players.The built quality: the keybed seems pretty well made, doesn't feel like a toy piano. But the casing is made of the weakest plastic known to mankind. Better not drop it!The presets are ok. Can't be too snobby about them. Warning: upon fixing up, the volume kicks in pretty loudly. There must be a way to lower it before going deaf.No MIDI, no USB, no Bluetooth, no Main Out, (a headphone out jack can bypass the OUT problem if need is), there are just 2 integrated speakers. As mentioned above, it's a very entry-level keyboard. And it's very low-priced too.Bought it for my wife who didn't play in decades. So why buying something semi-pro or pro if she's not sure if she'll ever pick up the piano again?The bench is sturdy. It can support an almost 230 pounds person. The X stand is good too. The headphone sound ok to me. But never used the mipcrophone so I can't tell anything about it.It's an ok choice, as long one doesn't expect much. I bought it because ipt is an Alesis product. I had some synthesizers and studio gear with the Alesis name and loved each of them. This time, it was a bit a shot in the dark.
