5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing value and quality!
Me and my 3 yo have crashed this thing close to 100 times and it just keep working. Here’s why it’s awesome:- it’s easy to fly- get tons of flight time with the three batteries- it has 3 speed settings and is crazy fast- the acrobatics are very cool- it allows me to get some practice in around the house to sharpen my skills when flying my expensive drone.- great instructions. The user experience was well thought out. Hats off to these guys.Things to look out for:- hair will get caught in the propellers. You’ll want to check for this often and have a good pair of tweezers to clean them out. As with a regular drone, you should do checks prior to flying and after any crashes.- read the instructions and controls. Lots of good info, so don’t ignore it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Fun & Easy to use
My daughter wanted a drone for her birthday. She turned 9, so we didn’t want to go all out on something expensive since she’s never flown one. The reviews on this Holy Stone drone were really good, and the price was right. I loved that it came with 3 batteries! We started out in the house and even with the ceiling fan going on medium (somehow I didn’t get it turned off before she started, oops!) she was able to fly it with ease. There was a small learning curve, but with a battery charger that charges 2 batteries at once she could pretty much fly one battery till it died and charge charge it while she flew with the next battery! They didn’t seem to take long to charge at all! The batteries are a tight fit in the drone, and have a tiny connector you plug in. But even she could do it herself after helping her learn how to do it. This turns it on, there is no on/off switch. Try not to break the plastic plug casing, since it’s supposed to plug in one direction! The drone is pretty small, but not overly tiny. It’s a good size for in the house. You can take it outside, but if you do, turn up the speed! We did this once or twice, but I was worried she was going to land it in our little pool, so we mostly use it inside right now. She loves the 360 flip! We haven’t really figured out the “headless” mode. And since she learned to fly it “head first”, I don’t see us trying to learn a new way. We did have an issue after a week or so of playing with it, but when we contacted the company, they were friendly and ended up sending us a new one for a warranty claim! It came pretty fast and it’s still going strong. Overall me, and my daughter (and her older sisters who she Sometimes shares with) are very happy with the purchase.
4.0 out of 5 stars Faulty Remote, 2nd time's the charm
The media could not be loaded. ORIGINAL REVIEW:Was so excited to get this drone for my kids, good reviews, extra batteries (their micro drones gave only a couple minutes of fun before they died), good protection for the propellers (unguarded propellers on micros were constantly getting damaged and they had gone through all the extras that came with them w/no way apparently to get new ones). But out of the box the remote had an issue. Right joystick is sticky when you move it to the right. And by "sticky" I mean it gets stuck. I tried to work around it, but it's simply a no-go for something brand new. It goes zooming off in the direction that it is stuck and crashes. So sad to have the excitement of my kids ramping up and then come crashing down along with the drone. This one's heading back, though (since it came so fast and is relatively cheap) I'll probably try another one and hope for a good remote. Statistically speaking I shouldn't get a messed up remote twice in a row, right??****** EDIT: (2nd drone) *******So I did get a 2nd drone and can now give a slightly more informative review. I changed my rating to reflect my 2nd experience, though I think it's only fair to leave a quality control warning. My 2nd drone works fine, the remote isn't sticky and it does everything it is supposed to do. Having 3 batteries is great since they do run out relatively quickly (but not crazy fast), but the battery changing process is what makes this (to me) just a 4-star product. I know it's a micro drone so everything is small, but it's kinda hard to get the battery connector off of this thing. Might be in part because I have really big hands, but by design it is pretty hard to reach by where it is placed and the fact that the wires get in the way. The easiest way to do it would be to pull by the wires, but that goes against everything I was ever taught about unplugging things. And because you have to change batteries relatively frequently with this or any micro drone, this is a sore spot for me. Like I literally dread changing the batteries. Small-handed people may not have this issue, but it's very real for me.Batteries aside, it's a fun little toy, easy to fly and the propeller guards do wonders - I have no doubt that they have kept this thing alive much longer than any other drones without guards since propeller damage is the #1 killer of drones. I think this is a great gift for kids or for bigger people wanting to learn how to wreck a drone without great financial impact.
Excelente producto
Excelente producto para aprender a manejar un drOn específicamente para niños si aguanta los golpes muy bien
Good sturdy drone
Good build quality and tiny cute drone. The kids got used to controls quickly and had quite a bit of fun. The 3 batteries help with keeping the kids engaged while the spare batteries are getting charged.
Good model to learn on
I've bought several "beginner" drones recently. I think this is the best one to learn on. It is really tiny but that's a good thing when learning and flying around inside which is where you should learn the controls. It is reasonably fast and responsive in the lowest speed setting and is ideal to get comfortable with piloting drones. It doesn't have obstacle detection but the protected blades and the light weight mean it can't do much damage if it hits a wall/painting/etc. I've crashed it a number of time w/o consequence to it or anything else. It's also surprisingly quiet compared to other, larger and heavier "beginner" drones I have which have much bigger propellers. DO READ THE MANUAL THOROUGHLY because 1) some buttons multitask and it's easy to crash by forgetting which buttons do what; 2) it's crucial to learn how to use the trim function - it makes a difference here (and on all other drones) for stable hovering; and 3) some other beginner drones have slightly different start-up and gyro calibration procedures and button functions and it's easy to mix them up.Unlike some folks writing here, I've got 5-6 min+ with all three batteries at the lowest speed so far. Higher speeds may burn through the battery faster. Make a point of charging all of the batteries FULLY BEFORE FIRST USE and not using too powerful a charger. I use an old iphone charger with the provided USB charger adapter.Nitpicks: I agree with other users. The battery connector is finicky - hard to connect and pull out. I just don't jam the connector in hard (on either the drone or the charger adapter) - just push it in gently on a bit of an angle until the connection is made and the lights start flashing. Other models like the similar HS450 (which I also have) have a better, modular battery system.I'd also like a bit longer flight time (ie higher capacity battery than 250mAh) but there's no way I've found so far to "McGyver" a larger battery in w/o significant modifications or unbalancing the machine. There are additional similar batteries (but only 220 mAh) for sale on Bolo but the 3 provided have worked well and as advertised so far (a few weeks). Ultimately, it's really not an expensive unit so I accept the limitation.I will undoubtedly move up the food chain to more sophisticated machines as time goes on but I find this the most fun and entertaining of my current fleet. I expect it will be a favourite to fly for a long time since it's easy to practice on around the house (especially in the winter). If you are new to drones as I am (or are buying for someone who is), do yourself a favour and buy a beginner unit like this before you go to Bolo/costco/wherever for the $1000 Mavic set (which I was tempted to do). You can (and will) crash the hell out of this one with relative impunity, and have a hoot in the process.
Good value
great to use as an indoor trainer to get your skills up for flying a serious drone
Almost Perfect
The holy stone mini drone really deserves 4.5 stars but it is not a 5 star product, so I decided to rate it 4 stars. The good:- Resilient despite me being a beginner smashing it against walls, furniture, you name it. This little thing is still alive and kicking. The guards do a great job protecting the propellers- It is perfect as a first drone because it is cheap and resilient- It comes with 3 batteries so plenty of fun time.- Comes with a double charger and batteries charge fast.- Comes with some spare parts which i haven't had to use yet, because nothing has broken- It has a "kill" function which protects the propellers from getting damaged in collisions with furniture. The bad:- Big biggest pet peeve with this drone is that it doesn't have an on-off button which means I have to disconnect and re-connect the battery each time it crashes.- Second biggest peeve is that in headless mode the controller keeps beeping, which is very annoying as this is my preferred way to fly the drone.- It doesn't really hover well as it tends to drift.- The trimmer doesn't really rectify drifting, as it then drifts the other way- At times it just has a mind of it's own and flies whereverOverall, it is definitely not perfect but it's the only branded learners drone i found that comes with so many accessories as well as propeller guards at this price range. If you are a beginner, buy it.
