5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect!
My first turntable ever. It’s even more beautiful in person! Feels solid, great quality. Putting the weight on was tricky cause I don’t have a scale. But once that was done, it was an easy plug and play. Definitely recommend for a beginner like me.
5.0 out of 5 stars Budget turntable with performance and features that rival far more expensive devices.
I purchased an inexpensive portable record player for my son for his birthday a few months ago just as a cool retro device. This started him down the road of wanting to buy everything in sight on vinyl. I hadn't realized how much time and money he was going to invest in the hobby when I bought the cheap player for him, but I figured that with all the money he was spending on new and used records that I had better get him something a little better quickly before the stylus on his cheapo player ruined all of his records.I researched many different turntables on Bolo and some legacy audio gear sites. Many of the players I looked at are priced a lot higher than this one and made by brands that in the 80's and 90's were highly regarded in audiophile circles. It seems that most of them nowadays are really cheapening out on the tonearms and cartridges that come with their products and many of them look the same as if they are just stamping brand names on generic products. This product is very similar to the TEAC TN-280BT-A3 with the two differences being that the TEAC has a spring-based anti-skate mechanism while this product has a weight-based system and the TEAC has the standard head shell/cartridge quick mount system and this product has the "old school" screw mount cartridge system which may limit any cartridge upgrades. Both turntables come with the same Audio Technica AT3600L moving magnet cartridge which is one of the most important pieces of a turntable that affect sound quality. For reference, the TEAC is 3X what I paid for this device! The product is very easy to set up. The included instructions are pretty good. My son set this up on top of his dresser and used the RCA cables to hook it up to a Bose Solo soundbar that was sitting next to the turntable. The sound is actually really good once the tonearm is balanced, tracking force is set, and the anti-skate weight is attached. The rubber isolation feet worked extremely well at stopping bass tones from making the tonearm skip while the device was playing despite the loud volumes my son was playing it at. Everything worked as it was supposed to and the absolute best thing about this turntable is that everything seems so well-made and feels as if it will last a very long time. The tonearm, speed and start/stop selectors are made of metal, the platter is a (thinner) metal and the base is a solid piece of MDF that looks really nice.I picked it up when there was a $30 off sale and a $20 coupon which brought the price down significantly. Even at the list price, you'll be hard-pressed to find anything better at the price. I highly recommend that you give this product a try if you're in the market for a new turntable. My son loves it and I like the fact that I can play some of my old vinyl albums too!
4.0 out of 5 stars This is what I was looking for!
I know there are a lot of audiophiles who may be able to find fault with this turntable, but for me, this unit seems to do the job for me at a reasonable price.Previously, I had bought a Victrola (all in one Unit). While it's nice to look at and has everything one would need to play every format, the turntable was not something to be desired. Many of the records I played, would skip or skate across the record. Also, the turntable just didn't sound so great. You heard every crackle and static on the Victrola. On this turntable, there is no skipping, skating and the sound is clean. One of the main reason I bought this player is because I wanted to play all my records without skips and skating. I'm happy to report that doesn't happen with this turntable. The sound is really clean through my old AIWA Q-Sound speakers I bought 30 years ago. This turntable has Bluetooth capabilities which I haven't taken advantage of along with the possibility of recording my Vinyl to digital. Though, I bought this simply to play my records. I have access to all my music digitally, so that feature isn't a big deal for me. Though it's nice to know that I can possibly record future Vinyls I buy that I don't own digitally. It's also nice to know that I can sync headphones to this unit. I can't speak for the easiness of syncing to this turntable, but after reading multiple reviews of this turntable, most seem to have an overwhelming positive experience in syncing to their headphones.I gave this four stars based on my experience in setting this up. To me, it shouldn't be so difficult to setup. That said; I had some issues with the Anti-skate weight and the belt. First and most importantly, the belt gave me some trouble when setting up. It kept slipping off the pully. As you can guess, without the belt, the turntable is quite useless. I spent nearly an hour fighting with the belt while it kept slipping off. I almost gave up and was ready to return the unit. I tried to adjust the pully without much success. Somehow I was able to adjust the belt from slipping off the pully finally. I really have no idea what I did. It just finally stayed on without slipping. Still, it was quite stressful and for someone who prefers an out of the box, quick set up, my experience was not such. Furthermore, the fishing line for the Anti-Skate was a joke. My fingers aren't that huge, but the knot that was already tied, was too small. I couldn't adjust it. I tried to do my own tie but the fishing line was hard to tie around it, so I eventually gave up. It was disappointing because I bought the unit because, as stated earlier, that I had albums that my Victrola would skip and skate through. Fortunately, after playing a number of my Vinyls that skated and skipped on my Victrola, doesn't skip or skate on this unit. So I'm not sure if the Anti-Skate weight is really necessary? When setting it up, there is a counter weight you attach which I may have conveniently set up correctly that does the job in keeping the needle/arm from skating across any records. Again, I am not a Turntable expert, so I can't really speak for the weight's effectiveness. The other cons that can turn a person off is the fact that this doesn't have an automatic stop/start/return feature. For me, it's not a big deal, but I can understand why someone would prefer for it to stop once it got to the end of the record. For me, I usually play my vinyl, expecting to get up to turn the record over. Still, it would be nice for it to just stop spinning when the record is done. As some have expressed already, the wear and tear on the vinyl and the needle due to lacking this feature, could be a concern. Seems weird to me, in this day and age, this isn't something included on such a turntable. Even my "all in one" Victrola stops when the record is done. All in all, I'd say this is a worthy purchase. It's a great price and the sound it produces is awesome. I was avoiding paying hundreds of dollars for a decent Turntable. And as most know, you usually get what you pay for. I believe I found a turntable that will satisfy my vinyl listening needs. I'm happy with the way it sounds and happy that you can easily plug in and play it with headphones or RCA speaker with no additional pre-amp.
5.0 out of 5 stars Nice
The only thing different is the arm is not self moving. Does not have automatic start like back in the day.
