5.0 out of 5 stars Presto cooker
We purchased cooker to use as deep fryer only. We have used a large Presto cooker for over 10 years and needed a larger unit, we tried this very large cooker, deep fried twice as many french fries as the one we already had, this thing is great. Presto is the best deep fryer. We use it set at 400 for everything, works perfect.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good for deep frying and flu
I bought this pot a year and a half ago. I've been enjoying it so much that I decided to write a review here. At first I wasn't happy with it because, when I tried to heat oil to 400, it only went up to 375, according to my digital thermometer. But I didn't want to return the poor thing, so I kept it. Then my son got sick with the flu and I wanted to create steam for him. I used this pot to boil water, and it's so big that it held plenty of water and made tons of steam. I steamed him for 3 hours a day at 95 degrees room temperature (used room heater) for 7 days, replenishing the water occasionally. Son recovered without seeing a doctor. He got the same flu a few years before that and took him a month to recover, after a doctor's visit and antibiotics and everything. I give all the credit to the Presto pot for my son's rapid recovery! So recently, I've started making the British fish and chips. This pot is perfect for it, keep the temperature steady at 375, and it's big enough that I can fry 4 large pieces at the same time. I made 2 pounds of fried cat fish in 3 batches, not burning or under cooking the fish like in the past. My fish is perfectly golden, crispy and fantastic!I am moving to a small apartment soon, and I'm taking my Presto pot with me, even though it is very bulky and takes a lot of space. It's worth it!
4.0 out of 5 stars Still Good But Not Like It Used To Be
It’s still a great versatile cooking tool, but the legs are too big and the plug comes out too easily! It needs to be redesigned back to it’s predecessor of 50 years ago.
5.0 out of 5 stars Wish I had it sooner
For years I used a Fry Daddy. Which was fine, but it was limited in size and I do a lot of cooking. We are a family of 8+ (8 for us, the plus for any friend or family who happens to stop by).I ended up buying a gigantic fryer which is great, but takes up A LOT of room on the counter, and is a kind of a pain. Takes forever to heat, etc. So I only pull it out once or twice a year. This is the perfect size, large enough for my big family, but small enough to not need a room of its own. I have so far only used it as a fryer. My teenage kids have also used it to cook quick things like Corn Dogs, Chicken patties and........ Pizza rolls. lolSuper easy to use, clean and store. Wish I had it sooner
5.0 out of 5 stars Medium fryer/ cooker
Awesome!!! I cooked with it for a small crowd. Didn’t have to worry about The Propane Cooker. Easy to use. Food always PERFECT.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for large quantities of food and gatherings!
Absolutely love this large kettle. I use it specifically for deep frying. I previously owned the Cuisineart compact 1 liter deep fryer for 6 years. It suited us well for just my husband and I. Over the years as the family grew or we hosted gatherings it was difficult to fry large batches as well as cleaning it. The Presto Kitchen Kettle XL is an asset in our kitchen and serves its purpose well. It’s large enough to use for big gatherings, larger food quantities, and easy to clean as you can unplug both the temp gauge and cord and hand wash it or place it in a dishwasher. The most attractive feature to me personally is that it doesn’t look like a hideous industrial deep fryer as many of them do once they go larger in size. While at 10 qts it certainly is a large appliance on my countertop I like the fact that it looks like a pot. It does require quite a bit of oil because the surface area is wide and large. I can easily fill it with a gallon of oil but can get away with 1/2 gallon depending on what I’m frying. They do have a smaller version of this which maybe be appealing for some. The max temp on this gauge is 400. I find that most of my cooking happens at 300 - 350 and it maintains the temperature well. The warm up time in the instruction booklet is 30 minutes however I’ve only waited about 10 - 15 minutes prior to placing food in the unit. I look forward to trying it out for other uses other than deep frying but am truly satisfied with this purchase.
