5.0 out of 5 stars ADDED TO HOSPITAL BED AND WORKS GREAT
I failed to check the measurements on the twin xl and ordered it from the reviews of the firmness. The existing mattress topper that came with the bed was gel and it formed a hole where your buttocks are almost immediately. I had that topper replaced 3 times before the warranty expired because of the quality of the gel. So when I received this topper I realized it was not made for a hospital topper. But it works. I was worried about the bend putting the head up and down and elevating the foot every night but after two weeks, no problems. My husband is unable to turn and has to lay on his back. So far he likes it really well. It exceeded the measurements for width and length but it fits between the bedrails without bunching and doesn't touch the foot of the bed. I realize it's only been two weeks, but there is no bunching, no dip at the buttocks. It bounces right back after he gets up. I will try and update this review after we have had it for a while, but as of right now I'm pleased, my husband is pleased and the price was much more reasonable than buying a mattress made especially for a hospital bed. My husband is 6 foot, weighs 165 pounds. I'm considering getting a full one for my bed. The 3 inch is quite firm.update 9/1/24. The pad had held its firmness and my husband continues to get a good nights sleep on it. He is unable to turn by himself so we are unable to judge whether that is easy or difficult. But he lays for at least 8 hours at night on it. We can raise the head of the bed for him, plus the foot of the bed slightly and it doesn't affect the pad. Evidently the pad is not cooling because he is more than comfortable with a sheet and light blanket and is always warm when I wake him in the morning. Like I said this is a pad on top of a hospital bed mattress that came with the bed. I've been waiting for the edges to start to tear away or get deformed because of the slight overlap of about 1 inch on either side but it hasn't happened. I'm going to order a full topper for my bed and hopefully it will make me as comfortable as my husband is.October 3rd . Still no problems with the pad on the hospital bed. But I ordered a 3 in for a full bed to add comfort to a mattress that is 15 years old. After 3 nights of trying to sleep on it, I had to go to another queen bed that we have I could hardly turn, I sunk into it so bad. I'm 135# and elderly and my bones just ached . It made the bed higher than I could comfortably get into. I'm basically a side sleeper and that may have been the problem. So I took a chance and ordered a 2 in queen and now I'm happy to say I'm getting a decent night's sleep. It's quite a bit firmer but being a side sleeper it seems just right. I thought about giving the 3 in. on the full bed away and buying a 2 inch for it because it's in a room that is more convenient for me, but the prices have rose so high I won't be ordering any more. Glad I have the ones I do.
5.0 out of 5 stars Learning curve success
Our situation; vacation house, no-name, almost new, medium firm, foam queen mattress that we inherited. Every time I used it, I woke up with aches and pains in the hip, shoulder, and back. I am well versed in support surfaces due to my profession. I have tried other 3" - 4" toppers over the last 20 years with little satisfaction. My experience with memory foam was that I always felt like I was either locked in a position and needed to crawl out of a hole when I wanted to change position or feeling like it disappeared under my body weight (200 lbs, 5' 9").Let me use this paragraph to provide a bit of simple understanding to help focus the shopping process for toppers; foam, no matter what kind, is based on density - how much actual foam (versus the empty air pockets) is contained in a given block (i.e., cubic foot) of foam. Higher density = more foam = less air = more support = less "sinkage" (also known as immersion). The amount of sinkage is ultimately affected by the size and shape of the body laying on that sheet of foam. For example, a 100 lb person can lay on their back on a 3" sheet of foam and experience 1.5" of sinkage. If the same person sits on the same sheet of foam, the body's weight is now concentrated in a much smaller area - resulting in 2.5" of sinkage which leaves this person feeling like they are sitting on a much harder surface with little or no padding. Alternately, a 50 lb body can lay on the same foam sheet with little to no sinkage. So, how do you beat the Goldilocks dilemma (too soft, too hard, just right) in search of the perfect topper? Unfortunately, I am not aware of any way to match height, weight, foam density, and most important, subjective feel. However, I have a suggestion:Pay attention to the product's weight (given the same thickness and size) vs the feel. What I realized with the Viscosoft 3" (which is a terrific product and my winner for toppers!) was that the item weight of the Viscosoft was significantly higher (denser) than many of the other similarly sized toppers making the same claims. Armed with that approach helped me to make a more focused selection. Too soft? Find a heavier topper. Too hard, find something lighter. This helped me reduce the options considerably so I wasn't shooting in the dark.I think the Viscosoft is very well made, comfortable (for my body), and easy to sleep in. I hope this helps.
Happy with my purchase!
I was contemplating replacing my mattress - it was not helping with my lower back issues- but I came across the idea of using a mattress topper - news to me! And this one came up in the various reviews I looked at. I’m really happy I got this as it’s improved my sleep, much better on my back, comfortable and eliminated the need to replace my mattress!
Great to use instead of a new mattress
Arrived very quickly, easy to unpack. I needed a twin size for our king bed as my husband didn't want anything on his side but I needed more padding for my shoulder and hip. I no longer have any joint pain while sleeping. good quality.
Just as marketed
Very few products come just as marketed but this one is definitely great.
Cold weather camping beware
We purchased this for camping in our motorhome. We used the topper in the last part of summer with no issues till fall rolled in and the temperatures dropped. What we found is that the topper went hard as a rock and colder than an ice cube. Going to sleep was so cold and the topper at times didn't warm up even with our body heat. To help after realizing what was happening we would pull all the blankets off and crank up the heat to warm the topper. By this time it was to late to return. I might have to buy a 12v heated mattress pad that would cost over $200 or sell and buy something different. Do not purchase this topper if you camp even a little in colder weather.
