I received this carving kit as a gift with no experience carving and loved it! The basswood bird took a while to make—but likely because it was my first ever project. I discovered a new hobby and credit this kit for it! I wasn’t able to carve anything from the cherry wood due to how hard the wood was, but the kit was still worth it to make it the basswood bird. I’ve purchased additional supplies from this company since and have never been disappointed. Highly recommend this for anyone with a creative mind, patience, and lots of bandaids!

This was a fantastic carving kit I received from my wife for Christmas, and I had a blast using it to create two birds. One thing I found which was not explained is that there are two kinds of wood provided, soft and hard. Practice on the soft line first, which has a lighter color. The hardwood is a darker honey color. Using the wax provided gives you better clarity on which is which. Slava ukraini!
3.0 out of 5 stars Template for the Comfort Bird is not correct
The kit came as a gift for me and was nicely laid out and everything was included.. The only problem I have is that the template for the bird is too long, by almost 1/2 inch, for the top of the block, see the attached and look at the tail length. My wife is a pretty good artist so she was able to create one of the correct proportions. This type of error makes me wonder how the other templates for kits (like the spoon) are going to beIf it weren't for that this would be a 4/5 rating. Someone please review editcorrect these templates and it is a really nice gift for someone just getting started.

This kit is perfect for the beginner carver, not only does it comes with everything you need to complete this project, everything can then be used to continue carving whatever you'd like. They've included everything you need, all the way down to bandaids (luckily I haven't needed to use them yet). The whittling knife has a great feel in your hand and the strop and compound give you the ability to get and maintain a razor sharp edge. Looking forward to trying more of their carving products and learning new skills.

-instructions clear and easy to follow-all material was included and complete for the projectHowever:-the knife was NOT sharp. I sharpened it after a short while but a bit disappointed. It’s also not as comfortable in my hand, but maybe depends on size of user- the piece of wood I started with had softer, darker areas and then other parts were very hard

I received this kit as a Christmas gift. The kit is complete, the knife is fairly sharp, and good instructions. However, the included drawings to attach to the wood to use as a guide for carving is not correct. One of the drawings is about an inch longer than the other two and the pieces of wood included in the kit. I was able to correct this because I had another drawing from a magazine. But Beaver Craft needs to correct this problem!

This includes two kind of woods cherry is very beautiful I practiced with this trying to get my curves down which are difficult for me and gave it to my 13 month old granddaughter it turned out nicely with painted and the beeswax provided. The box is gift appropriate and beautiful. The tools came ready to use and it had everything you need pencils paper even tape to protect your fingers. Started by buying individual tools from Beaver craft so I have many but I found it’s best to start with the kit and Practice just like you would a musical instrument starting an appropriate level for your ability to carve happy carving it’s always fun with Beaver craft
**UPDATE**Alright kit to great kit
Kit itself is alright. Doesnt come with glue so i just drew on the design. Knife is quite uncomfortable and i ended up wrapping the tape around it to make it more comfy. Besides that and the sheer fact the knife sent makes it hard to carve, its good for someone with a lot of patience. Would much rather a larger knife for large sections and a detailing knife.UPDATE**The seller had contacted me, they sent me a new kit as well as a set of knives as an apology. The new bird kit works amazing. The knife in this one works perfectly, I must have recieved a dud. Great customer service from this seller .
