5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, easy craft for my dino-loving 7 year old son
This was a fun, easy craft for my kids to do the day after Christmas. Everything needed is included in the box (except a microwave safe cup) and adult assistance is required for handling hot liquids. You need to move quickly after heating the soap base as it re-hardens fairly quickly, so make sure all you've pre-selected and opened the dye, scent, and glitter containers. It can get a little messy, so i recommend putting down a plastic disposable table cloth before starting. Colorful dino soaps were ready within 45 minutes and my kids are excited to bathe with them tonight!
5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Kit
My niece loved this! It made the perfect gift
4.0 out of 5 stars This is really cool
I ordered for my son for a Christmas gift and he loved it. He had alot of fun making the soaps. The scents were super hard to open, one I never was able to actually open and they aren't very strong. The instructions say to use a few drops but you have to use a lot more to get an actual smell. The milds are nice and it's very easy to use. Clean up isn't ridiculous but it's a little tedious when the soap cools off and sticks to the bowls. You get a good I think we got 8 dinosaurs out of it which I feel is good. They're small, the size for maybe a lego person to ride on but it's cute. Great gift for a little kid and I enjoyed it too.
5.0 out of 5 stars Too complex for a 7yo but fun to do together
You definitely need to read the directions for this project. It requires careful use of a microwave. Do not let a child do the microwave part. Heads up, watch the clear soap base very closely while microwaving it. We needed less than the recommended microwave time because we have a strong microwave. The kit comes with the four basic colors (red, yellow, green, blue). Our 7yo saw the example dinosaur with four colors and decided he wanted to do it that way on our first try, which made the creation take much longer (each layer needs at least 45 minutes of cooling or else the colors mix in an unpretty way) and required me to read the directions at least 20 times to make sure I was doing it right. It would have been easier to start with one color, but it sure does look cool with four colors. The soap is not breaking apart where the colors touch; it's holding together as if it were made all at one time. Currently, it is used as a toy rather than soap, so I can't speak to its cleansing properties.
5.0 out of 5 stars Simple.
Purchased this as a gift. The recipient told me just how easy it works, and relatively quickly. It's definitely more of a novelty for your children to make something that they can use that is fun and useful. For the price and the joy something like this creates for those littles that enjoy crafts, definitely worth the purchase.
3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I had high hopes then was let down. These could be really cool, but the soap wax given can go from not melted to boiling in two seconds based on the instructions. Once they boil, it's all over. It is almost impossible to get it to stay melty. I will say the molds are super cute and we managed to make a half one. The soap hardened halfway when pouring it into the mold. I don't really see how anyone would be able to color and scent them without the soap hardening in the process. I'm tempted to try my wax warmer and see if that will help keep it from boiling and hardening.Luckily, my kid is easy and even though it didn't completely work, he still loves one of the ones we made.As for the coloring, we had to use more than directed to even get it to show the color. There is no way to get it as bright as the pictures without using a lot.Due to the soap making the cup really hot and the soap melt getting really hot, I don't recommend kids to do this alone. Younger kids can't really do anything as you're worried the soap might splash on them. Older kids may have an easier time, but I still recommend an adult help.
1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible experience
Followed the directions, comes out terrible every time. It says to heat up for 10 seconds, if not melted enough to stir it up, add another 10 seconds. I have tried multiple microwave safe bowls/cups to try to melt it the right way, but As soon as it comes out of the microwave it HARDENS, or it's not melted enough to pour it into the beaker to add the scent/coloring. The one time I was able to transfer, it hardened in the beaker instead. I tried pouring some into the mold, but no success. I have a sad kid, no soaps to speak of, bowls filled with hardened mess and a waste of my time and money.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality.
Good quality. Fun activity for a toddler.
Great 2 stage activity for young kids
This was supposed to be a gift, but we ended up using something else and stumbled into having a great time with the kids with this kit. They loved making their Dino Soap molds, mixing colours and adding in scents. That was only the first part, they seemed to have even more fun playing with these during bath time. The dino's didn't last too long, but I wouldn't say they fell apart super fast or anything, it was more just increased use in the bath.Lot's of fun, depending on kids age, does require parent involvement in creating the mold.Scent was not very strong/noticeable, but we added in additional scents of our own which added a different element for the kids to explore.
Fun for kids during COVID
Got this for my nephews as I wanted them to do something creative and away from using their tablets. Also great during COVID as they can make the soap and use it at the same time.Cons-Found it tricky to remove the caps from the bottles.-Fragrance bottles were tiny, didn't feel there was enough in there.Pros-Kids really liked the different colours.-Gives kids something creative and fun to do!
"Dino Soap Fun."
The Dan&Darci Dino Soap Making Kit captivated my grandson's imagination with its unique blend of creativity and science. As a dinosaur enthusiast, he loved the opportunity to engage in a hands-on activity that not only allowed him to create his own soap but also introduced him to basic STEM concepts. The kit's inclusion of dinosaur molds and the overall theme added an extra layer of excitement to the crafting process. It became a delightful bonding experience, merging fun and education in a way that appealed to his love for dinosaurs. This kit offered a perfect balance of entertainment and learning, making it an ideal choice for young dino lovers and budding scientists. Highly recommended for its engaging and educational qualities.
Fun afternoon activity
Not giving it 5 stars as there wasn't enough fragrance oil to actually be able to use the droppers or make all of the soaps sufficiently scented but this was my only issue. Fun, easy, and I can use the moulds again in future
you cannot do what is shown on the package with this set!
if you start making the soap as instructed you are set up for a failurethe soap mixture sets up so fast than you can hardly add the color and the scentI'm not sure why the beaker couldn't be made microwave safe but transferring the liquid soap from one container to another definitely doesn't help the process. The two scents smell almost the same and are not the nicest once. But that could be personal. The coloring liquid is such a poor quality that you need not 3 drops as instructed (these will not affect anything) you need at least half of the bottle for a gently pink color. The molds are made with the thin sprue which clogs up with instantly setting up soap so it is impossible to make the soap the way the molds are designed.oh and i got two molds that are the same instead of three different molds.long story short: everything was wrong with this product as if it was designed with different kind of materials in mind (say they wrote the instructions for gold but you received a piece of oxidized aluminum in the package)do I even need to tell what a scandal it was when my daughters who received it as a new year's gift tried to make this soap. I even bought it as a present for my friend's son. I had to send them instructions how to make these and apologies for a crappy gift. And if you are stuck with this piece of science, here is how we end up making the soap that was still not even close to what was shown on the package but somewhat decent. We fixed the halves of the mold with playdough to the counter and had a bowl of boiling water so one person could put the beaker with liquid soap in it and continually mix it while the other person adds coloring, scents and glitter. We filled each half of the mold separately and then connected them once the soap was set a bit (which is pretty much an instant). Don't forget to spray each half with alcohol so it connects to the other half. the whole process still had to happen pretty fast. And i end up using my own microwave safe bowl for the whole process skipping the transferring part.good luck
