5.0 out of 5 stars Great throwing knives.

    B.G. · February 16, 2024

This is the 2nd set of 8-inch throwing knives that I bought from S&W. I'm a big fan of their inexpensive but adequately functional blades and equipment. These throwers feel great in the hand, are extremely well balanced, and have a decent heft and weight to them which gives some good penetration even on hard and knotty wood. The sides of the blade are not sharpened at all, but the points are very pointy and sharp. This is the case with many throwing knives. I did sharpen up the first inch of blade on a few from an older set but I do not recommend this if throwing into wood due to the fact that it will weaken the tip. The carry sheath they come with is also of decent quality. At $20 for a set of three and $30 for a set of six, I'm gonna have to give them a 5 star rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality the axes are impressive.

Follow up, several months later and we are still throwing these. I am about to buy another set. I would also like to state that once you learn how to throw the knifes and axes, purchasing a higher quality (harder) steel also makes sense. You will miss less and stick more, that means less chance to break them.Original:We, my yeating family, really like the axes. They come sharp enough to actually cut you if you get careless. When you add that to the weight of these axes it means they will stick into wood it you hit it. They are amazingly easy to throw, once you get you distance set, all three of us were sticking them on every throw. The knives of of the same quality and have good weight to them, I was concerned after reading the reviews that they would break. They held up to me, and I throw hard! The draw back to the knives is, dull does not begin to explain it. It is like a steel bar that has been smoothed to avoid scratching the user, and then one end drawn to a point. The tip will pierce the skin with little effort, the rest of the blade would literally smash butter as you tried to get it from a container to butter your bread. For training I highly recommend both. I can get the knives to stick about 75% of the time, probably closer to 85-90% if I sharpen them. But from a training point of view, their weight makes up for the sharpness. I bought these to train, and learn to throw. I am getting my grip and form down with them so they are doing their job well.Drawbacks: If you think that steel used in a throwing blade should never bend or chip, you are wrong, the blades need to flex or they will break. This is the quality of steel I expected for the set. After several hours of throwing (actually it is the missing that messes them up) we acquired some small folds in the edges of the axes, these are minor and about 5 minutes of work per axe with a wet stone smoothed out the jagged parts enough to not snag on anything. To remove the marring completely would need removing about 1/32-1/16 of an inch. We are just going to throw them again so they do not need to be perfect. So the fact that they are a soft steel and need maintenance sucks, but it is necessary.Knives: same thing as above with the steel. The thing is, I will be sharpening these soon. The fact that they didn’t even pretend to put a cutting edge on them means I need to take them to the grinder to put a rough edge on them. Literally, there is no edge, the knife slopes to a point but it is impossible to cut yourself on them. If not for the point I would give them to a toddler and let them throw them.Bottom line: I grew up buying the cheapest thing around or making my own stuff. That said, I have thrown sheet metal thick throwing stars and knives, to small yet decent “beginner” quality knives. Camping axes and hatchets, along with drywall hammers. Short of buying professional grade axes and knives, this is the best I have ever purchased!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good standard throwing knife

    R. · March 3, 2024

A while back, I found a throwing knife and started playing with it, sticking it in a stump in the backyard. Kind of a neat thing. then my seven year old was interested and he started throwing it, getting it to stick. after watching some YouTube videos and doing research, we decided we needed something more. With these 10 inch knives he immediately improved with the half spins, and I was for the first time able to do a no spin, very cool. Good build, good weight, feels good, a good price too. Some reviews say they’re not sharp, and they aren’t, but I don’t think a throwing knife needs to be sharp, simple physics of a weighty metal object into a wooden target, a point is plenty.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great throwing knives for beginners+.

    J. · September 26, 2024

From beginners to advanced these knives will do what you want. They are super durable and feel good in the hand. The paint holds up spectacularly and it sharpens quick and easy. The tip is the only downfall but easily fixed. Overall 8/10

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good

I bought because of the brand but was still surprised at the quality for the price. Cool fun purchase. Will be fun for back yard play. Really nice product. Will probably order more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Balanced and Durable Thower

    k. · February 25, 2020

I will preface this review by acknowledging that I am a beginner when it comes to throwing knives - which might actually give more credibility to the quality of these knives. I bought two sets of these, one set as a back up, as the last throwing knives I bought lasted a matter of weeks before breaking their tips. By my estimate I have thrown these nearly 1000 times into a homemade end-grain target from 6 to 8 yards. They have yet to break. The tips do show signs of damage from angled entry due to poor throwing form, and also from falling to the ground after over or under rotations. I have yet to use the second set I purchased as the first set has held up so well. I am thoroughly impressed. They have a simple design with good weight to provide enough momentum to sink inches deep (when thrown correctly) into my wooden target. When I finally wear them out, I will definitely be purchasing more of these.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well balanced.

    f. · July 31, 2024

These are well balanced, well made knives. Specially made for throwing. You must know what you are doing or get some training. These are not toys.Study, but giving. I have used them both turning and no turn methods. If these are new to you, start with short, easy throws. Get used to the knives before trying any difficult throws. All in all, I have had good use out of these knives.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun but not durable

    R. · September 5, 2024

Fun for 5 minutes and then big chip out if it. Still sticks I'm the target I made but was upset that it was as fragile as a can. If your just playing around these are great but for serious throwing no.

    Really good quality

    Works great

    Great throwing axes

    A.A. · March 16, 2022

Some will say they are cheaters as almost ever side is a blade. But really the point is to make the axe stick in something and these definitely do that lol. Almost every throw will stick. Good for beginners. I would highly recommend taping the handle as the machined edges are sharp.

    Sehr gut

    S. · September 24, 2024

    Great product!

    O. · September 9, 2024

It is my first set of throwing knives and I'm absolutely satisfied!

    Sehr gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis

    C.B. · March 11, 2024
