5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Workhorse!
I bought this to make dog food. Eventually perhaps people food too. I found mine for over $50 less at the warehouse. Then after reading the reviews more thoroughly I became unsure and ordered another one. and then another one and tried to cancel the 2nd one. But it was too late. The third one arrives today. They are both STX.6 months ago i bought a Weston pro. Magnificent machine but nearly 40 lbs! I didn't want such a heavy one so I returned it. Then I bought the Kitchen Aid attachment grinder. Seemed to work very well. I was using it to grind chicken bones. But when I couldn't find chicken necks I bought wings and they bound it up. Probably the skin. My husband got it loose. But then earlier this week I was just grinding chicken meat and it got bound up again. So, I ordered this Weston. In spite of the reviews it seems like a great 5lb. machine. The review for this machine include another Weston of lesser power. I just did 23 lbs of chicken and beef and they didn't have to be semi frozen. As for breaking in four months; like at least two reviewers said, it will still be under warranty. I like that the gears are metal. It is noisy but not as noisy as my Blender on high. One of the reviews noted that the locking lever does not stay down. That is true. But I just cut off a little less than a 1/2" end off of a wine cork and then cut that in half. Then I pushed it into the hole to jam the lever down/locked during grinding. Pulled it out easily to clean the head. Very happy with my purchase.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great for making raw cat food
Easy to assemble and use. And also super easy to clean. I use it to make raw cat food out of whole chicken, bones and organs (there's also vitamins involved... I use a nutritional recipe). I make sure to take off all the skin and I don't grind the wings, since those are hard to get the skin off. And the one time I chose to grind the wings, the skin from those got wrapped around the blade and got jammed. It says you're not supposed to grind bones, but I do. And I did 2 chickens, one after another to test the motor. Shutting the grinder off for a couple of minutes to cool off in between. It is fabulous. It's my favorite part of the whole process. The only annoying thing about it (maybe I got a dud), the lock for the front bit doesn't stay locked. It wiggles about, when the grinder is operating. So I have to be mindful and periodically push it into locked position. Other than that I love it. And my cat is healthy and wont eat anything else but her raw chicken.Cleaning it is sooo easy too. And it just looks very well made. So far I processed about 10-12 chickens with it. I hope it lasts!
1.0 out of 5 stars Large sharp bone splinters in pet food
I have been making cat food for over ten years with a Tasin, which you can't get any more. I bought this grinder specifically because it got high ratings for making pet food. It feels much more cheaply made compared to the Tasin, but it did the job. But to my horror, I have been finding large very sharp splinters of bone in my cat food. I grind the chicken thigh bones first with the coarse plate, then run it through the finer plate with the meat per the instructions. So far my cat eats around the bone splinters but if she does ingest one it will be a problem. These splinters are large enough to get caught in her throat or damage her digestive tract. The first splinter that I found I assumed I had not been careful when changing plates. In the next batch I was supercilious in grinding, only to find larger and sharper splinters than before. I can't return the grinder since I make large batches of food to freeze, so it is past the return window, but I am really afraid to keep using it. Throw out a meat grinder that I have used twice?
4.0 out of 5 stars Easy peasy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great grinder for making raw cat food
We adopted two cats who have lived on a raw food diet, and bought this grinder specifically to make their food. I ran 40 lbs cut chicken leg quarters, with bones, 8 lbs chicken hearts, 4 lbs chicken livers, and it ran like a charm. It was a lot of grinding for one session, but I didn't have any issues. That is a two-month supply of raw cat food all done in one session. It was so much fun, I might even use it for people food :-)
5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy Duty
I make my own dog food so I am grinding a lot of organ meat. I used to use my KitchenAid mixer attachment, but it was taking a toll on my blender. I decided to get just a meat grinder and will definitely do the trick.
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect home grinder.
This think is built like a tank and seems to run like one too. Everything feels far more heavy duty than I was expecting but exactly what I was hoping for. It's a little loud but I don't plan on using it after bedtime either. I didn't have the cam lock completely cinched down so during a heavy load the lock disengaged which allowed the auger to flip the tray and some meat out in the floor under some serious force, however this was apparently my fault so I cannot ding Weston for that. It made some crazy good burgers and I feel like I'm going to love this addition to our kitchen.
Powerful and easy to clean!
It’s a nice home meat grinder. I use this to grind meat for my hound. It’s made a raw diet so much easier for pup!
Love it!
Bought this for making raw cat food. So far so good!
This machine does not live up to Weston's Reputation
I chose this product based on Weston's quality known in meat grinding . This machine falls below that bar.Once assembled Out of the box the Hopper connection was way over sized for the feeding hole causing the the hopper to effortlessly flap about 20 degrees up and down. I found the latch locking mechanism insecure in the locked position and appears it can easily unlock while in use. Both of these issues are unacceptable so I am returning it without using it once. I will also mention its loud as hell. The sound has a painful pith . Ear protection is a must . I could live with that if it wasn't for the to previous two defects mentioned. I considered a replacement until I read the reviews and decided the manufacturing quality control in this product is very poor.Who knew that buying a meat grinder is harder than buying a car.
Grinder
It did not even turn on a complete waste of my time. Got in from the warehouse, so it had been supposedly test. Guess u get what u pay for. Never again any tested refurbished or what ever for me. Did get a good one elsewhere tho.
