5.0 out of 5 stars Good tool
I am getting ready to do the brakes on my wife's Ford Escape and need a caliper tool to reset the rear calipers. I have borrowed a friends tool before (Matco BCW20) but I believe if you have to borrow a tool more than once you should have your own. I have one of the "cube" style brake tools but using it usually results in slippage, bruised knuckles and are just a pain to use. I was browsing the internet looking at the Matco BCW20 caliper tool kit at $117.00 and the OMT (Orion Motor Tech) tool was also shown on Bolo for $26.49 shipped. I usually purchase quality known branded tools but this OMT caught my eye. I decided to take a chance and purchase it as Bolo has a great return policy if it turned out to be of poor quality. Well I received it today. (30 Sept. 22) I have to say that I am impressed for the price. It also came with two nifty S-hooks for hanging the calipers off the chassis to prevent hose damage. I have used the Matco tool before and this appears to be an exact copy less the phosphate coating on the steel. Usually I get bitten taking the cheaper route. The only concern I had was that the threads felt a little gritty when turning it through the arbor. I put a bit of grease on the threads, ran it in and out about 20 times to lap the threads and it is smooth as silk now. I am sure the machining on the Matco version is a bit more refined and the case is definitely of better quality. For casual use this tool will last forever and I believe if used in a professional environment it would hold up quite well. As a side note, I grease the threads on all my tools that use threads for pressing/pulling and clamping force. This prevents galling of the threads if the tool is used in the proper manner. I know people that have purchased tools and never lubricated the threads then wonder why they get all buggered up. This type of tool you really can't screw up making it for what it is intended to do.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great tool, if you figure out how to use it
I used it on 2017 Ford transit 250Tool itself is great helper and I believe that it has the sturdiness needed it for the job it is made for. It does not have any instruction, probably because it is mainly used by professionals only, so regular lesson may struggle a little too correctly assemble and also use it to the point that it evil be bent or damaged beyond use.First and foremost, keep in mind, that you not trying compress the poison, it must be wind only and direction off winding is different for passenger and driver side (caliper has imprinted arrow to navigate you which direction to use). Also keep in mind, that you compresing brake fluid trough combination of rubber and metal tubing with tiny diameter inside = you will feel the resistance!!Before you start the winding back open brake fluid reservoir to allow three compressed fluid go back in much easily. Now at some point you may feel, that it won't continue winding = strong resistance, so wait a little, adjust the tool again so it will not be too tight or too loose and try again..... it will continue again smootly. If you feel strong resistance once again,.. wait adjust and keep going again. With enough patience and your sensitive hands tool will work flawlessly as it is designed.I strongly disagree with person who bent this tool doing same job as me, it's not the tool fault! it's the human factor again and again.....This tool will do compresing or winding, you just have to know what your caliper need and hose to use this tool.2-25-2020 Correcting: instruction is actually included inside of the box, just was ignored at the moment of first look and eagerness to try it out. Also I tested on 4 human beings ability of using the tool not knowing what it is or does. Age differences were from 7-43Y old. All received same simple info and task.1rst task: they had to pick only 3 pieces from the box, which are needed it for the tool to function. Result = all failed2nd task: assemble toll from the 3 pieces and make it functionalResult=all succeeded in time line from 1-15 minute.7Y old boy need it 15minutes for assembly9Y old boy need it 1+minute11Y old girl need it about 13 minutesGrown up women need it only 5 minutes, so adult men, who is complaining about not being able to solve it without another adult should not write negative rewiew....., especially when instruction is included.Enjoy the video of small boy to show you how to assemble it correctly.
5.0 out of 5 stars A must have
Great value per dollar. Has all of the new pieces older kits don't have. This kit always gets the job done. Highly recommend
4.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive kit at a bargain.
This thing works way better than a C clamp or pliers. I was actually surprised by the quality of the case, blow molded cases usually suck no matter who they're from but this one held every piece through shipping which is an impressive feat given it appears UPS had delivered the packaged this was in by drop kicking it all the way from the warehouse to my home. The case even has some pieces that slide out to a more open section to make them easy to grab then slide back to lock into place. The gloves and hanger hooks for your carriers is a nice addition as well. The metal is okay quality and everything is a decent tolerance, there was no sharp burring left over from manufacturing. It gets the job done and its a damn good deal.
5.0 out of 5 stars Really handy for rear calipers
After fighting with the other tool, this one worked well turning and compressing the rear caliper on a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The inclusion of a second shank with reverse threads made doing both of them a breeze. Much easier than a c-clamp and pliers. The piston requires a lot of pressure while turning so unless you have someone to hold the caliper while attempting to turn it, a tool like this is a must. Be sure to oil/grease as indicated in the instruction to prevent galling of the screws.
Does what it says
Have used this on both mark V and VII Golfs and it worked well. Good value basic tool that does the job.
Good price
Has every thing you need
Fantastic
This was exactly what I needed without the big cost quality ok as well
Works great
Worked great to turn back the pistons in my 2013 Elantra, built extremely well for the price point, will absolutely be keeping this and using it again
Great value
Decent quality for the price, does what it should. Relatively easy to use but can be difficult to keep lined up while tightening. Works great on wind-back pistons and push-back pistons, seems to have all of the sizes you might need.
