5.0 out of 5 stars ...
Installed on a 2019 Ford F150 5.0L today. Just did my first oil change. I read all the complaints online about how messy the OEM oil plug can be and they're not wrong. As soon as I loosened the plug enough with a pair of needle nose pliers, oil went spraying everywhere even though I had carefully positioned my catch pan to avoid any issues. The problem is two fold - the oil gushes out with great speed, and the swaybar is right there in front of the opening so it fans the rushing oil everywhere. It's a poor design. This was a bit pricy but it appears to be high quality aluminum and steel. It was easy to install. The rim right behind the gold cap - the part you grip to install it - has a notch right behind the gold cap at the 12 o'clock position. Aim this at about the 7 o'clock position on the oil pan mouth, push in with some force, and then rotate it while pushing in a bit until the notch I mentioned is at 12 o'clock on the mouth. By this point, it should feel secure. It will very slightly move left to right if you move it around, but it's in there securely just like a regular plug. My 2017 VW GTI had the same plastic plug design with a detent that locks it into place. I know a lot of old school guys prefer a metal pan and plug but honestly I like the plastic a lot more. It's foolproof.FYI, the Ronin symbol (sort of looks like a Transformers logo) is also supposed to be correctly aligned. The two points at the top of the "head" of the symbol should be pointing straight up. I had previously loosened the gold cap and didn't properly retighten it, so the symbol didn't line up at first and I thought I didn't install it correctly, but the notch was properly oriented. Also, on the bottom of the drain is text which should be positioned at 6 o'clock once installed, and I verified that as well.I will update after my next oil change since I haven't had a chance to use it yet. I'll also update if there are any leaks or issues. I have high hopes for this tool, as the factory plug sucks. $80 is worth saving yourself the aggravation as well and you won't have to buy any more replacement plugs.Update - I finally got to change my oil. The difference is night and day. First of all, a reminder to keep the drain tool somewhere safe. It's small and easy to lose. I initially kept it in my glove box as recommended but was afraid it would get lost so I put it in the garage near my oil filter wrench and still couldn't find it at first. The tool helps control the flow of oil and makes the drain so much cleaner. The spurt of oil will still hit the sway bar but you can limit that by turning down the flow a bit. Not having to buy a new plug each time is a nice plus. I'm so glad I bought this, having changed the oil both ways. Worth every penny.
5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome solution for a silly problem
The factory drain plug for the 2.7L Bronco engine is considered to be a one time use item, this seems silly to me. Combine that with the fact that when you remove this 3/4 turn one time use drain plug, you had better be ready because all 6.2 qts of oil are coming out within a few seconds whether you have your drain pan positioned correctly or not. The Ronin permanent drain plug solves the issue of a messy oil change and the combined cost of a $13 drain plug with each oil change. The plug is VERY well made, fits perfectly and takes just a few seconds to install during your next oil change. The added bonus is that the insert that allows you to control oil flow out of the pan, also has a connection on the end that allows you to connect a piece of hose and direct the oil flow wherever you like instead of your sway bar, the cross member, your garage floor or all over your hand like the factory plug tends to do. If you're like me and regardless of the smart oil life monitor's suggested 7500-10,000 mile oil change intervals, you change your oil every 5,000 miles, you'll cover the cost of this plug in a few oil changes and avoid the mess and hassle of the factory plug. Because I'm also used to a traditional oil plug, I have been crawling under my Bronco expecting so see a drip or seep from the plug, but it hasn't let me down. Since installing this, I have had a co-worker buy one for his Edge ST and his F-150. I'll be adding this plug to our other Bronco at the next oil change as well because it's just that good. If you're on the fence and thinking about spending the money for this add, trust me, it's worth it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money if you change your oil
This is a quality made part, installed and worked as it's designed. I have a 2018 F-150 with V8 and draining motor oil is now much more predictable and controllable. Very pleased with this product!
5.0 out of 5 stars Easy installation, worth the cost 👍👍
This oil plug was very easy to install. The plug itself looks to be built very well.
5.0 out of 5 stars Works great!
I put this on my 2017 Ford F-150, 2.7L Ecoboost. Fits great, didn’t leak, made changing the oil a breeze. This is the best aftermarket product I have purchased.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great product
I like the hose adaptability. It was easy ti change out.
5.0 out of 5 stars No Mess
Great product if you change your own oil. Take the time to let it all drain out, then remove the plug entirely to get the last .25-.5qt out. Great investment, solid build, looks cool, and no mess.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent (if not pricey) solution to a silly problem
I have a 2020 F150 with the 5.0 and changing the oil is always an adventure due to the geniuses at Ford making it so the oil flows directly into a sway bar when draining, causing a massive mess unless you have a very large oil catch tub. This plug solves that issue by letting you control the flow rate of the oil as it drains. It also has the added benefit of not needing to be replaced with every oil change, and you don't have to wait for the oil to cool off as much since there's not much risk of coming into contact with it (although you probably should let it cool off for safety's sake). There's also a barb on the end of the piece that opens the valve so you can attach a hose, basically eliminating any chance of spillage. It is a little pricey but the machining is very well done and it eliminates a real headache when changing my oil so for me it was worth it. It's also pretty tight on the install and I had to use a wrench to get it over the detent which marred the surface a bit, but I can't see it anyways so I'm not worried about it.Overall I'm very satisfied with my purchase and makes oil changes way cleaner and easier.
Great Quality - Easy Install
Mainly purchased this to reduce the mess that comes with doing an oil change. The quality of this product is next level and it brings peace of mind knowing that I won't have to deal with a plastic plug that felt it would break every time I took it out.Plug is installed (easily), waiting to be used for the first time.
Love this drain plug
Perfect fit, hasn’t leaked in 20k so far. Very easy to use and mess free when changing my oil
Good quality
Very good quality and well designed, will definitely make changing the oil a whole lot easier and nowhere as messy as it was before, very happy with this purchase
Awesome drain plug
I like this one for its low installed depth. I like UPR’s drain plug for the tighter fit and double o ring seal. It’s a beautifully made piece.
Great item.
No more mess when changing the oil from my truck.
