5.0 out of 5 stars Unlocking the black box of fertility...from my kitchen table!
As I enter my 30s, the specter of my "fertility" has loomed in the back of my mind, and as someone who isn't planning on having kids in the next couple of years, I get increasingly anxious about pushing my biology too far. Up until Modern Fertility, I also just assumed that I would learn about potential fertility challenges well...when they happened. But this easy, at-home kit will allow me to start the conversation with my doctor earlier and with a simple blood test that I did at home with easy-to-read, online results in a dashboard. To be clear, Modern Fertility does not tell you whether or not you will be able to get pregnant, but they test a wide variety of hormones (the panel of which depends on what type of contraceptive you use) that help paint a picture of what might impact your fertility. The kit comes with easy to follow instructions with a link to youtube tutorial for those who want additional guidance. The test consists of a simple finger prick, a card to collect your blood sample and a ready-to-mail envelope. Warning, it you are queasy with blood at all, consider enlisting a friend to help prick your finger and direct your finger to the card to gather your sample! After mailing my sample in, I received my results in an online dashboard about 10 days later. If you have slightly low to low results like I did, receiving the results alone can be a bit overwhelming. Modern Fertility has a comprehensive blog and FAQ section to help you learn a bit more about your results before you bring them to a doctor for a larger conversation about your fertility. Modern Fertility also emails you about a webinar where you can ask questions anonymously and learn more about your specific results. I found the webinar super helpful in calming some of my fears about my results.I am looking forward to taking these results to my doctor to help start the conversation about family planning way earlier than I would have otherwise! Knowledge is power!
5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and Informative Test - Recommended for anyone starting to think about their fertility!
I was really scared to take this test because fertility is something I think a lot about as a single 27 year old starting a new career. I started attending Modern Fertility events this past summer and was shocked by how little I know about my fertility (and especially about my eggs!). The events were a great forum to ask a ton of questions and made me start thinking about what I can do to inform myself and take necessary steps since it may be many years before I have children. After a lot of thought and conversations with friends, I decided to take the test.I was very appreciative of the information emails leading up to the test that helped me mentally prepare. The blood test was very simple and straight-forward and the tutorial video was super helpful. I received the results within two weeks time (with a warning email so again I could mentally prepare). The results included a lot of useful information which helped me understand what the results actually meant. Although I realize I may need more testing in the future, the test definitely put me more at ease knowing more about my fertility and setting me up to think further about further conversations I need to have / steps I need to take at this time. I will definitely be using this test in the future to keep up to date on any changes as they recommend.Overall, I feel like Modern Fertility has equipped me with the knowledge and information to make more informed decisions related to fertility over the next five to ten years. The community has been great and I definitely plan to stay connected.
1.0 out of 5 stars I wish I could give zero stars.
The amount of blood that is required for this test is insane. They make you think that it will just be a few quick drops but that wasn't the case for me. The instructions give some tips for how to get blood flowing like running your hands under warm water and being very well hydrated. I tried all these things but the lancets (you only get four) don't prick deep enough to get a substantial amount of blood.I was squeezing my finger for forty minutes until it was white trying to get more out, and I still didn't have enough. I bought this because I thought it would be less stressful than going to the doctor, but it would have been so much easier and cheaper if I had just gone in for a traditional blood draw.Of course, my results came back "not enough blood for results" with no option for a do-over. Complete waste of $180. I feel like I got Elizabeth Holmes'd
5.0 out of 5 stars Easy and affordable!
So, I'm in my 30s and in a relationship where having children is a subject of talk constantly. I would like to have kids in the next 3 years and my little sister was talking about having her eggs frozen for the future and she's got plenty of time. This started making me wonder what my time line is. I heard about Modern Fertility through a friend and thought "I'm curious, but not fertility clinic curious."The process itself is super easy from ordering to doing the actual testing (you do have to pick yourself for a blood sample, so be prepared or have someone with you that can help if you're squimish). My kit came with 2 test slides, so you may have to pick yourself more than once to really get enough blood sample. I really appreciated the step by step video and how succinct it was. I answered simple questions that were all digital which didn't seem so dragging. If you still had any questions, the team at Modern Fertility is always available to answer any questions and walk me through the process (I did my test well into the evening).I've had friends who have gone to a clinic and this was way more affordable plus, I did this in the comfort of my own home.I haven't gotten my results, because I just sent it in, but I'll definitely be updating this review when the results are in because the test comes with fertility nurse consultation and educational webinars if you wanted more education or to get your questions answered.
