Hands down THE BEST passive milk collector. This is the reason why I have a freezer stash. The ladybugs easily fit into any nursing bra (I personally like a comfy sleep bra) and I attach one on the opposite breast just before baby nurses. When breastfeeding/collection is complete, I then pour the milk from the ladybug by holding it in my palm and squeezing a little to create a V on the larger opening (where the nipple usually goes) into a glass jar, which is refrigerated. I’ve found pouring from larger opening instead of the smaller opening (on the top with a stopper) leaves less milk residue in the ladybug. Every drop is precious! When the refrigerated collection jar is full, I transfer the milk to a lasinoh milk bag and freeze. Totally optional step, I just find it easier to not have to pour milk into a floppy plastic bag every time. Side note: CDC hasn’t officially supported the practice of pouring body temp milk into a container of refrigerated milk. So to stay in line with cdc recs, you can add a few steps. Pour freshly collected milk into a container and refrigerate. After the next feed, pour the now chilled milk from the prior session into a milk bag, then pour freshly collected milk into the container. Refrigerate both the milk bag and the container. Repeat until the milk bag is full then freeze. The silicone from haakaa brand items is high quality and I trust it will not leach dangerous chemicals into my baby’s milk. I’ve used the ladybugs every day for 6m now and it is as good as new when I wash it. I wash it with unscented dish soap (7th generation free and clear) because the essential oil in scented dish soaps can leach into silicone products, imparting a soapy taste onto the milk.Side note: many moms swear by the traditional haakaa milk pump but I found that even when I secured it with the flip out method, it gets kicked off by baby or I knock into it with my elbow and inevitably, precious milk is spilled. Plus the haakaa pump provides a negative suction which stimulates breastmilk production. The haakaa ladybug is a PASSIVE collection device so there is no suction (if you don’t press on center before attaching) and therefore no additional stimulation on your boobs. Goodbye engorgement/overproduction!2024 Edit: I have heard good things about the Boon Trove! It's cheaper and flatter, making it more discreet to wear under bras. I haven't tried it yet, but will if I start the breastfeeding journey again with baby #2, and update this review.Photo taken with the two ladybugs and one Philips bottle nipple for size reference.
5.0 out of 5 stars I wish I would’ve ordered sooner!
These are the 2.5 oz shown. I truly love these! I sleep in these for part of the night. I went the cheap way out at first and ordered an off brand pair of collections cups which had a vent hole in the top that would often get turned the wrong way & spill my milk on me. After a few times of that happening, I decided it was time to invest in something better quality. I was most attracted to these because of the plug in the top of the collector. It’s a great feature. Not to mention I have plenty of space to collect quite a bit of milk! You can push down on them when first put on your breasts to cue suction, it’s not much suction but just enough to help the cups not move around too much! The silicone feeling is soft and doesn’t bother my sometimes sensitive breasts. I like the feature that they can stand on their own when put down & seem pretty sturdy. I often collect 2-3 oz in the mornings with these!
4.0 out of 5 stars Great for Nursing Bra-less
I am a new mom with a 5 week old and this product is one tiny win for all the dozens of difficulties learning to breastfeed an infant. I used to just keep nursing pads in my bra to catch let down on the other side while nursing, but now that I see I am collecting anywhere from 20-30mL a feeding, I wish I had known about this sooner. Now I can freeze the milk instead of throwing it away it a soaked nursing pad.The biggest plus is that due to the small amount of suction, I am able to nurse bra-less and just attach it to the other side while my baby nurses. It was so frustrating to me to feel like I could never just give my chest and rib cage a break and go bra-less while feeding because I let down so much milk on the side that is not being actively nursed. Unlike the big haakaa manual pump that I tried (and massively failed) using for catching let down, there is no chance this will get kicked off. The silicone is comfortable and soft around the edges. The small amount of suction is comfortable and enough to keep the ladybug in place without actively pumping any milk, thus no risk for becoming an over-producer. You can either use suction to keep in place or place it in your bra. I purchased the Elvie let down collectors to test out at the same time and, while the hard rounded shell makes it a product that could be worn much more discreetly under your bra to collect milk throughout the day, my goal was to find something for collecting milk during feed times and for something that allowed me to be bra-less while feeding. The Elvie collectors have no suction which is why I ultimately chose the HaakaaThat brings me to the cons of this product:1. Not discreet whatsoever. I could never wear this under my bra in public. I purchased the smaller size and it’s pretty big and bulky. Go with the Elvie ones if your goal is wearing them in public2. No measurement markings. Since I freeze the milk I collect, it would be nice if there was markings on the side that let me know how much I had collected
5.0 out of 5 stars Favorite Letdown Catcher
I preferred these to the haaka suction container. You can place directly into the bra to catch letdown milk which is what I did. Feed baby on one side and allow the lady bug to catch from the other. Switch when baby switches. I was catching 3+ ounces per breastfeeding session without needing to be suctioned to the breast to stay in place like the original haaka. Sometimes that can be painful when nipples are cracked/sore. These hold a lot, are easy to empty and clean. I can’t speak on wearing them during the day to catch leakage because I didn’t do that. But overall I recommend to all my breastfeeding momma friends!
Very useful and good quality
Quality is great, kind of heavy but it can attach to the breast firmly and collect the milk. Very useful when breastfeeding
Used for sleeping
I was tired of waking up soaked and wasting milk into bra pads so I decided to try these. First 3 and a half hours sleeping I collected nearly 2 ounces that would have just been wasted. I am an exclusive pumper so I have to wake up every 4 hours anyway so the milk I get while sleeping doesn't go bad. Its a little uncomfortable but if your use to waking up with engorged breasts this is super easy to fall asleep wearing bc those hurt way more. I'd recommend hardly using any suction and wear a tight comfy bra.

Chest feed bff
I wish I got this sooner, especially in the early days of chest feeding when I got engorged and leaked a lot more.Unlike the silicon pump, the lady bug just barely has a suction. It’s just enough to stay on you but needs something to secure to you (like nursing bra). That little bit it suction helps get up to an ounce for me sometimes. If you’re like me and have contact naps induced by chest feeding, than this could be super handy. My babe will nurse lightly to sleep during naps and my other side will let down and leak. Since babe is sleeping I can’t comfortably alternate (shed fall asleep and not properly drain the other side anyways). She often wakes and nurses again which again, gets the other side to let down and leak. The lady bug catches all of that would-be wasted milk.
Beste Milchschale
