5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and effective
This is a replacement for an identical unit (albeit with a different brand name painted on it) that we used for many years until it fell in a sink full of water. These are not waterproof! The number buttons make it very easy and quick to set the desired countdown time. You can also easily start it to count up. The alarm is loud enough to hear anywhere in our modest apartment. The display is large enough without being obnoxious, and is about as readable as an unlit monochrome LCD can be -- fine for the kitchen. Despite being easy to read and control, the timer does not take up much space. This is only a timer, not a clock. That is a good thing. You never have to set the time, and it automatically shuts off a little while after you stop the timer, so the batteries last a very long time. We have plenty of clocks on other appliances and our phones, so we don't miss one here. I would not recommend using the magnet to hold this timer on an appliance, because the magnet projects far out from the center of the back of the timer. If you push any of the buttons towards either side of the timer, that will rock the timer and pop the magnet off the surface of the appliance. You could just stick the timer there and pull it off to push the buttons, but that might be tricky to do without using two (clean and dry) hands. Instead, we use the fold-out leg that stands the timer up. That makes it easily accessible, but not particularly stable, because it is lightweight and the leg supports it at only one point behind the timer. We usually grab it to press the start or stop button with a pinching motion with fingers behind the timer and a thumb pressing the button. This would be hard to do if it were stuck to a metal appliance, because there is not enough space to get your fingers behind the timer without popping it off the appliance. We do usually hold or pick it up to press the number buttons using two hands -- not because they require much pressure to push, but because the timer will scoot around or fall over if you just push at a button from the front. I bent a paperclip into a shape to hold the fold-out leg a little further away from the body than the built-it clip does. That makes it slightly more stable. Finally, I like the reasonably large, soft, long-travel buttons. They are not the smooth, clicky membrane switches found on many devices. Membrane switches are easier to clean and are potentially waterproof, but I find the buttons on this timer easier and more pleasant to press, cleaning was really never an issue, and they worked reliably for years. So while the stand and magnet could be improved, and making it waterproof would be nice, this still seems like the best simple kitchen timer I can find.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great timer
Nice large easy to see display. Easy to use. Alarm increases in volume and urgency.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great timer!
The timer is a great help in my kitchen. I like the keypad of numbers that allows you to input the exact time that you need. (So many are set by pushing hour and minute buttons, but if you go too high, you have to start over.) Also, the alarm is a nice volume level and allows me to hear it when I am in the next room. The only drawback that I have is it doesn't count up after the timer has ended, which would allow me to know how long since it went off. (Only important when I am timing my dryer, but I'll get used to it.) Overall, it is easy to operate, display is easy to read, and it seems durable.
5.0 out of 5 stars It has a mute button!
As others have said, this timer is pretty loud. Even when entering the time, it is loud. BUT, you can slide the sound button to mute while you are doing this and slide it back to hear the beeps when time is up. I love that it is loud enough that I can hear it in another room. The magnetized back makes it handy, also. Just store on the fridge (or wherever you have metal) and you don't have to go digging for it. I am glad I chose this one.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great kitchen timer, as good as they get
This timer is as good as it gets if you just want a timer without a clock function; I didn't need another clock in my kitchen. This timer is very easy to use, set the time to count down using the number buttons and press start, it can't get any easier than that. If you want to count up, just press the start button. When the set time is reached the red-light blinks and the alarm does a loud slow 'beep - beep' then shifts to a loud rapid beeping if you haven't shut it off, this will get your attention even in another room. The beeper can be turned off, but the red light will still blink to get your attention. The display stays on as long as it is actively counting but will automatically turn itself off in 10 minutes when not being used. The display has large black numbers on a light gray background, making it easy to see as long as there is light in the room. The battery contacts are covered with plastic which needs to be removed initially but removing the battery cover is not the easiest, I used a piece of rubber to get enough of a grip to slide the cover off, you won't have to worry about it falling off though. The face plate is covered with a thin plastic film which you might not notice, it can be removed by peeling up a corner and pulling it off to reveal a nice shiny display. It can be hung on a hook, stuck on a stove hood using the magnets or propped up using the stand, all 3 features work well. The magnets might not stick as good on a textured surface. Be sure to get the upgraded version to have the hour function. I like this timer so much I bought another one to give as a gift. I give this a buy recommendation.
5.0 out of 5 stars A Basic Kitchen Timer That Gets The Job Done
When my ages-old kitchen timer died a couple of weeks ago, I searched through the Bolo alternatives for a replacement. I found this basic, very reasonably-priced XREXS Kitchen Timer and decided to give it a try, mainly because of that reasonable price and because it is very similar to my departed timer. I've used the new timer every day since it was delivered and so far I have not a single complaint. It is a simple timing device, easy to use, loud enough to hear in the next room if you are occupied elsewhere, and can count both upward and downward. At only $9.99, if it lasts half as long as my old timer, it will be a purchase well worth the investment. 5 stars across the board.
Best timer
The best timer I have ever had. The buttons are easy to use, counts up and down. Super loud beep you would have to be half deaf not to hear. Also has silent mode with just a flashing light when you don’t want to wake the house.
Great
I used it for 3 years. No issue. I like it with number key and normal battery.
Great product - but very loud!
I love that I can easily enter the cook time without pressing the minute button 30 times for 30 minutes! And I will never miss when the timer goes off as it is so loud. It also automatically goes into sleep mode after use which preserves battery life. My only complaint is how unnecessarily and annoyingly loud it is when entering the cook time!
A TRULY GREAT TIMER - GOOD FIND - A CLOCK TOO
I wanted this for the timer but find it is a clock too. It is perfect and simple to use.
Inaccurate listing
Listed as a 4 channel timer. It’s not. It’s a single channel timer (twin pack). Not what I wanted.
