5.0 out of 5 stars I am impressed and highly recommend it!
I was not too sure about this dashcam specially when compared to the newer more expensive model that is out. I did not want to spend too much money, after all, all I needed was a dashcam just in case of an accident. I am located in an area where car insurance is very expensive and many drivers have no care insurance (or driver's licenses for that matter) so I needed it to be on the safe side and to have evidence if I was to ever be involved in an accident. I looked and looked and reviewed many other dashcams; this was the best that fit my need and what I believed a dashcam should cost (no more than $100). IMAGE QUALITY: It is very clear, crisp, not sluggish, and adequate ratio. I am able to see and read license plates on all vehicles at front and in the cam's peripheral view. I am able to see vehicles on both sides of the road. It also takes very clear picture like the one I have posted. EMERGENCY RECORD: It seems that when the cam registers a hard bounce or like a hit, the emergency recoding video kicks in and starts recording. Those videos seem to be about 30 seconds or so and are kept in the memory; these videos do not get deleted in the regular loop-recording. AUDIO: Well, it hears and records everything. I can hear the road, my music, and noises by other cars by me. The audio is very clear. You can set it so it doesn't record audio right from the main screen. Super easy. DETAILS: It records mph, location, and time. I chose not to have a location or speed stamp on the video.... you know, I do not want to incriminate myself LOL, but it gives you the choice to have it on the video or not have it on it. Up to you, the user. The dashcam itself is very small and compact. Depending on where you install the dashcam, you can barely tell is installed when you look into a car which is perfect if you don't want your car broken into. Other dash cams are so large and bulky they look like there is a Polaroid camera hanging to the windshield. :-/ INSTALLATION: Very easy. There is a electrostatic sticker that goes on the windshield and the cam is attached to it. It is very secure and the cam does not move or sways. There is no glare noted (I have the cam mounted underneath the rearview mirror right under the lane assistance sensor, not directly on the windshield). Cable is long enough to reach the power supply in most cars. I am picky so I got an extension just because I wanted the power cable to run next to my radar detector cable. I have it set so that the cables run underneath my seat; not under the dashboard. OTHERS: It seems to record videos in a 3 minute-long intervals; each video seems to average 580 MB to 600 MB of memory. The larger the capacity of your memory card, the more videos you get to keep to review later. APP: Using the app is very easy and straight forward. Once you connect to the cam’s WiFi, you can download videos, pics, and change camera settings. It takes about a minute to download a video. If you want to download more videos. I would recommend removing the SD card and using your computer. OVERALL: I am impressed. I was not expecting this camera to be this good or this concealed. It is definitely worth the $80 (more or less) I paid. I hope this review, pictures and videos help. I have used this dash cam for 2 weeks now and I continue to be impressed with it and happy with my purchase. I will try to post a video.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Upgrade: A510 Dash Cam Delivers Quality and Value
I don't upgrade my electronic devices very often because most of the time, new versions are packed with gimmicks I don't need or use. However, the A510 (the new version of the A500S, which I already own and love) is filled with useful options that make it worth upgrading, especially for such a critical device like a dash cam, and it's very reasonably priced. The camera is easy to install, the picture quality is good with great resolution, and the recordings are crisp even at night. The included 64GB microSD card is a nice bonus, though personally, I prefer to have at least 128GB for my dash cam. However, 64GB should be sufficient for most users.
5.0 out of 5 stars Best dash cam, highly recommend.
Out of like 4 dash cams on here similar price or lower. This is the only one that works 100% of time and even holds up to hot weather in sticking power and function (does not turn off due to overheat, but I try to partially shield it with windscreen when can because nothing is invincible)Put them on all my vehicles.. look no further for video protection I'd say. Highly recommended.App is not all that bad can download video off wifi.. But I always suggest to pull the card and view on computer since that is faster in transfer speeds.
4.0 out of 5 stars Well-made and easy to use, with one drawback
I had a cheap off-brand dash cam mounted to my windshield for about 4 years. I never really looked at the footage as it wasn't easy to get to (you had to remove an SD card and take over to a PC to view). I had no idea that the SD card had failed and the camera wasn't doing much of anything. So, I decided it was time to look for something similarly compact and unobtrusive, but with WiFi access to the actual footage. I tried a number of competitors with questionable build and software quality until I happened upon this little gem.I changed out my existing Mini-USB hard wire kit for the 70mai three wire (with ACC) micro-USB hard wire kit. This allows for parking surveillance mode and also reduces reliance on the built-in battery, which is known to fail over time (and is replaceable). I then used the included 3M VHB tape mount to adhere to the area just behind my rear view mirror. Due to its compact size, you can barely tell it's there and the display doesn't catch your eye with the mirror blocking it. That said, you can easily crane your neck a bit to see the screen and manipulate the interface if needed. That interface is pretty slick as far as non-mainstream brands go. My only complaint is that the startup sound (even with the latest firmware) sounds like it took inspiration from the Windows '95 startup chime. It's a little tacky and you can't disable it fully (although you can disable the rather obnoxious beeps it uses to confirm button selection). The app works fairly well and you can enable WiFi full-time if you want to have a continuous connection to the camera.Recording quality for a camera in this cost segment is above average. Its highest resolution is not a widescreen aspect ratio, so I opted for the medium, 1080P resolution. It is clear enough to see significant detail, including license plates, at night. Really, unless you're in the habit of viewing your footage on a 70" TV, you don't need full 4K resolutions to get the needed detail about a traffic incident.I really like the overall design of the camera - as I said, it is unobtrusive and easy to find a good spot to mount. Updating the firmware is pretty easy and the app works well enough for what it is. The battery was a significant concern when I read other reviews that suggested it failed after a couple of years - but I have since found that replacements are easily sourced on Bolo and replacement looks to be a breeze (there are several videos on YT). The only real downsize in my view is that this camera gets HOT - like, hot to the touch around the body - even when ambient temps aren't so hot. That's a problem with something mounted to the windshield with regular exposure to the Florida sun.I have not had the camera fail to work, nor have I missed out on any recordings, but I must say it is a little disconcerting when you go to handle the camera and find it hot to the touch (not enough to burn you, but it wouldn't take more than a few degrees more to do so). I'm not sure if they're using the case as a heatsink for some of the components inside, but this seems like it will have an impact on longevity over the long run. Regardless, with a few weeks of use in at the time of this review, I will say that it's worked flawlessly. My only other criticism is with the 70mai hardwire kit, but that's a different product entirely, so I'll save my comments for that review. I only mention it here because you need that kit if you want to use parking surveillance mode. That's not something I ever felt the need to have (my car spends most of its time parked in my garage), but it is reassuring when I do park it publicly or leave the car with a valet. It works well, the sensitivity to trigger recording works reasonably and I've not had my car's battery significantly drained (and I have checked it with the car sitting for several days). Obviously this particular model only records out the front, but I understand that you can add on a rear-facing camera as well if need be.All-in-all, this camera is well-priced, has a slick design, is easy to install, and works reasonably well with a few minor niggles. If it holds up over the long run, I'll be thrilled!
