The BDR-212V is an internal SATA drive. It can burn up to 16x on BD-R (25GB) media and up to 14x on BD-R dual layer (50GB) media. The drive is also backwards compatible, so it can read and write to most DVD and CD formats. With Vinpower’s support, Pioneer improved the drive’s DVDR burning performance by providing consistent and reliable burning of any file type for the duration of the duplication process. This ensures the recordable DVD media will have a greater success rate when copying and greater reliability of playback. In addition, the enhanced BDR-212V will ensure even and uniform burning appearance across the full circumference of the disc every time, even if just burning 1 disc or during heavy use. The BDR-212V drive has features such as a QuickPlay which enables movie discs to be ready faster, a Noise Suppression design to minimize noise, an Anti-Dust design to increase durability, and Precision Writing Technology to minimize write errors. And being a Pioneer drive, the BDR-212V drive supports a wide range of blank media.

This Pioneer drive has reliably written blu rays and most DVDs for months. The one interesting failure is for DL (double layer) DVDs of certain brands. My tests show that the brands that typically fail to write with this Pioneer drive, successfully write with a HP drive, so it's not that these blank disks are universally bad. However, switching to a different brand of DL DVDs resulted in success with this Pioneer drive. Why would this be? I have tried changing the write speed, but it makes no difference for the "bad" brands of blank disks. Unfortunately one must use different brands of drives with different brands of blank DL DVDs to have consistent writing success.

What can I say except GREAT burner, dead silence when burning, takes all disks I have tried and creates only perfect burned disks, this model does not work with UHD 4K reading or burning disks though
