5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Air Purifier That Does A Lot

I don’t like IoT devices but I was able to connect it with the app then put it into a IoT VLAN with no internet and still functions just fine and same with the remote. Others have complained of smell but I just smell normal slight air puffier smells that went away after a day and does not bother me. It purifies effect and monitors the air for containments which has helped my allergies a lot as well as helping keep dust down. The sleep mode works perfect and I have mine setup to auto run on a schedule for when I go to sleep and turn off when I wake to auto mode. I feel like the value is perfectly priced for what it offers and would recommend this for anyone looking for the specific functions this purifier provides.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quiet and works as described

    D. · January 20, 2025

Fan is relatively quiet and lower speeds and heating element is quickly ramps with warm air. 90 to 180 degree oscillation is a nice option. Phone app is easy to use and connecting BLUE AIR to home WIFI was fast with no issues. This device seems well built and is a nice upgrade to my Dyson hot+ cool Gen 1 HP 10 purifier, which after 7 years of good service now has fan motor issues and the heating option triggers an error code shutting down the device.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great machine and great performance with some annoying drawbacks

    N.Y. · January 1, 2025

Likes:The design in general; While not as futuristic as D* brand, it's sleek and a lot more compact. The 3-in-1 function saves space in my tiny bedroom. Remote control works well. App is well designed and easy to setup and navigate. Moves plenty of air if you can handle the loud fan at highest setting. Seeing PM2.5 dropping in real time is fun (and healthier, of course.) Color status for air quality/heating it easy to notice at a glance and is elegant.Somewhere in the middle:Touch control panel on the unit is not very responsive. Most of the time I can't lightly tap. I'd have to press my fingertip fully. Lowest fan setting is too low and barely moves air. Highest fan setting is LOUD. Heating function only adjustable on the unit itself. While you can use remote to turn on and off, the only way to change the temp is through the touch control panel.Dislikes:Disappointingly can't use heater function through the app since I'd like it to turn on automatically when the temp hits a certain level. Rattles and creaks lightly when oscillating which is slightly annoying to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!

    K.C. · February 6, 2018

This is the best investment! It has truly changed my family’s life and health. We breath better, allergies aren’t as bad, and you can’t smell the dog smell in our home anymore! This product is so worth it, and I wish I could buy another one. I love the look of it as well. The colors of the fabric pieces that catch dirt and other things are so cute. The sound is just like a fan, and we’ve gotten used to it so we don’t even hear it. I would definitely recommend to anyone who is wanted a purified home!! In the picture you can see how dirty the fabric is but it’s SO easy and simple to clean! If you’re considering it, GET ONE!

1.0 out of 5 stars Replacement filters smell very BAD

    H.R. · November 16, 2018

The employees of Blueair I give 5 stars. The company I only give 1 star. This review will be quite long. However if you wish to purchase the Blue Air model 121 or 211, I think you should read this review. First of all I purchased the 121 purifier. I have had it more than a year, and I liked it. My wife has allergies and it helps with that. I have the purifier located in a room that is about 400 sq. ft. I have an air quality meter that tests for PM 2.5 this purifier keeps the air at about a 4 or 5. When I shut off the Purifier the air quality meter would go to about 14 in a few hours or so. If my wife sprays hairspray the meter will go to 90. This purifier will get the air back to 4 or 5 on the meter quickly. After a year I went to get a replacement filter for purifier. The manufacturer recommends replacement after 6 months. I went a year because I run the purifier on low, and the filter did not look that dirty for a long time. I purchased the filter here on Bolo. Soon as I turned on purifier with new filter it emitted a terrible smell. It smelled like dirty clothes mixed in with a sour smell. The manufacturer website says that the purifier can smell when new for a short period of time. I left air purifier on for one week and it still smelled terrible. I contacted Blueair and told them about the problem. I also told them that the new style of filters that they were sending out were using sheet carbon not pellet carbon. The purifier when new came with pellet carbon not sheet carbon. He said they knew that and the sheet carbon filters were just as good as the pellet type filters. The employee was very polite and said a new filter should not smell. So they shipped me a new filter, which I received within a week. The new filter smelled very badly also. I ran machine for 5 days and filter still smelled terrible. I contacted Blueair again. I told them this second filter also smelled badly. I asked if they could send me a pellet carbon filter and not sheet carbon. He said he would send me a sheet carbon filter again. However this filter would be from a different warehouse and should not smell. The employee was polite just like the first one. I received another new filter again within one week. This new filter was now the third filter I tried. This filter was the worst out of all the filters. It smelled like a dead animal. This filter I could not run for several days to try to air it out. Within a few minutes it made my room smell like dirty clothes mixed with garbage. It was disgusting. Even my wife said the smell was repulsive. I called Blueair again. I explained that this third filter smelled even more horrible than the others. I offered to send back to Blueair all the bad filters if they would send me a postage paid box. They said they didn’t need the filters back. You would think they would want to get the bad filters back in order to determine the problem. That means they must already know what the problem is. The employee said that they do get bad filters sent to them sometimes, but that it rarely happens. I don’t believe that. Since I got three bad filters in a row, there must be many bad filters being made. This time the employee agreed to send a filter with the pellet carbon and not the sheet carbon. Again the Blueair employee was very polite. I received a new filter within a week. The new filter I received only smelled a tiny bit. I’m hoping the smell will go away quickly.Blueair needs to get their filters from a different manufacture. Air filters are supposed to make the air you breathe cleaner not dirtier. The carbon in a filter is supposed to remove smells, not make them. This is what Blueair says on their website about the carbon in their filters. “If you are wondering how to remove odors, VOCs or gases from household chemicals and other sources from the air at home, consider an air purifier with an activated carbon filter. Combine that with reducing exposure and your home will smell as fresh as it looks – and have cleaner, healthier air”. They failed to mention on their website, that if you use their filters the air will smell like a dead animal. This is what I believe the problem to be. The filter has a paper outside and carbon inside. The carbon in this filter is a sheet and absorbs odors, VOC’s, smoke etc. It absorbs things that our gaseous. The carbon can be made into pellets or sheets. The sheets are made in a roll. The roll of carbon is then cut to size for different size filters. If the sheet carbon is ever exposed to any contamination during manufacture it will absorb them. It appears that the carbon in these filters has already been completely filled with gaseous contaminate. It is now emitting the smells that it has already absorbed. Carbon can only absorb so much gas before it becomes contaminated. After it has absorbed a large amount of gas it needs to be replaced. Otherwise it will start to release any contaminate that has been stored within the now used carbon. These filters from Blueair are worn out before you even put them in your machine. That is because the carbon has already absorbed everything it can. As an example of this, if you walk into a smoke filled room and then leave the room you will smell like smoke, because your clothes absorbed the smoke and now are releasing the smell that was absorbed. The carbon in these filters was probably clean when first made. Then the carbon rolls were relocated to a dirty smelly factory where the carbon was exposed to something that smelled very bad. Blueair told me that the bad smell of filter was nontoxic. But how do they really know that? What if the manufacture that made the filter had the carbon in a location with others items. Maybe in a factory with stored items, such as barrows of pesticide, maybe bags of manure? Who knows what this carbon has been exposed to? Sheet carbon is stored in rolls. Pellet carbon is stored in barrows or bags. A bag or barrow can keep the carbon from absorbing what is in the air. That is probably why the filter I received with pellet carbon barely smelled. When I bought the Blueair 121 purifier it had no smell when new. It was using a Carbon pellet filter. I don’t have any respect for the management within the Blueair Company. This is the reason: I know for a fact they have known about the smelly filters for a long time and have not fixed the problem. There are numerous reviews online complaining about the smell of the filters. So they have to know. This is not the employees fault. They were nice the ones talked to, but they have no control over the product. That would be the managers. No doubt the managers are trying to cut costs and don’t care whether their filters are safe or not. They need to cut all ties to current manufactures of their filters, and have them made somewhere in a clean non smelly environment. Many years ago I worked for a manufacture of paper products and hospital underpads. The Material we shipped out was many times very dirty and unsanitary. This was because we received material in rail cars that were very dirty. And the material we received was not wrapped, so it would be black on one side coming out of the rail car. Our managers did not care they would have us sand the black off and tell us to ship it out. This product we were sending out, went to hospitals and nursing homes. This happened all the time. Our CEO and DOO knew about this and did not care. We send contaminated product to hospitals quite often. It was all about the money. I think with Blueair it is all about the money. When this air purifier wears out then I will be done this company. I will never buy their products again. This $400.00 air purifier is supposed to make my health better not worse. I live in central California which has very bad air. So a good air purifier is needed. I think the company should send out a recall to anyone that has purchased filters that came from the factories that produced them. How do we know if the air coming out of the filter is actually clean and uncontaminated, when it smells so bad? Normally when something smells bad, it is bad.As a side note: I also have a Honeywell air purifier that I have had many years. It also uses sheet carbon. It has never smelled with any of the filters I have replaced.

Great for reducing cat hair in my apartment.

I got a size larger than is recommended for my small apartment but the cat hair was driving me crazy so I thought I'd try it. I covered it with the grey cover and sure enough as it sucked in the air to clean it, it sucked in cat hair as well which stuck to the grey cover. Attached is what it looked like after returning from a long weekend. I then wipe it off with a damp cloth or, better still, run a lint roller over it so it can start again. I have no idea if it does the other stuff, like cleaning chemicals etc out of the air, and It certainly doesn't get rid of all the cat hair but it helps significantly. When it is on low, which I use during the day, you can't hear it at all. When it is on high, it sounds like your oven fan when it's on low. I'm glad I bought it.

Good for cooking smells in small apartment

    S.L. · December 16, 2019

This was a gift to me paid for by my mother.Pros:-Works well to reduce cooking smells in my small apartment. I have to leave it on for an hour or so after I finish cooking but I don't mind doing that.-Reasonably quiet. Settings one and two are quiet enough for me to tine out while setting three is quite loud but I use it while cooking and so the noise doesn't really bother meCons:-Bulky and difficult to move around. I don't use this air purifier all the time and I keep it in a spare bedroom when not using it. It's difficult to grip anywhere and even when the top part is "locked" it can still topple off quite easily.-Replacement filters are very expensiveI would never have bought this for myself because in my opinion it's too expensive for what it does, but it works well for what I use it for and I was happy to receive it as a gift.

    Like a forest

    s. · August 3, 2018

I had my doubts if this would have strong results. I know there are more expensive filters out there and I need it for a 650 square foot space which is at the space max. I decided to buy an air quality monitor together with this purifier to make sure that is really works. And holy moly! First, you can really feel the difference but that being said, what if it was just our minds playing tricks on us. But the AQ monitor doesn't lie. The air coming out of the machine has a 0 particle measurement. Even the far corners of the room have a 4 or 8 measurement. To keep it in perspective, anything under 50 is good and outside in Toronto it was 65. And although the purifier is big, it is pretty stylish so it looks great. Quiet too. I did a lot of research and this model is much quieter than comparables. I should have bought this a long long time ago. Go for it.

This purchase is the best this year. You don't know realize the benefit of this machine until you have used it for a couple of days.
