5.0 out of 5 stars Update your TV firmware to ensure this works
TLDR: This adapter might not work if your Roku TV is still on a firmware version below 11.5.0, so make sure to update.I purchased a TCL 43S455 and a TCL 32S327 in November 2022. Both came with fairly old firmware out of the box (9.x.x, when the current firmware was 11.x.x). I purchased two of these adapters; one for each television. I used a Nintendo 64 and a DVD player, both known to work correctly, to test each adapter on each new television. None of the combinations worked no matter what I did -- no audio, no sound, nothing.Next, I performed a manual update of the TCL 32S327, which involved downloading the firmware from Roku's website, putting it on a USB drive, plugging that into the TV's USB port, and performing the update (which only took it to 11.0.0). The 32S327 still didn't see the adapter or any signal from either device.(I couldn't do a manual update for the 43S455 at all, because Roku's tool doesn't even acknowledge that this model exists, and the firmware installation fails as a result. Roku blames TCL for this, and TCL blames Roku. Neither company seems to be able to solve the problem, though TCL is at least *sort of* trying.)Next, I decided to connect the 32S327 to the internet via the mobile hotspot on my phone (so that the TV doesn't ever have the network name or password to my home wifi network). Lo and behold, there's a firmware update available (11.0.0 > 11.5.0) and after that finishes installing, the AV input adapter works perfectly. My Nintendo 64 and DVDs showed up exactly as expected. That 11.5.0 firmware update was NOT available through the Roku website; it ONLY showed up when I connected the television to wifi, which I didn't want to do in the first place. Thankfully, I then performed a factory reset to get rid of all the extra crap that gets irreversibly changed when you log the TV into a Roku account (which you are forced to do, with no way out), and the firmware stayed at 11.5.0 even after the factory reset. I'll probably wind up doing the same thing to the 43S455 if TCL and Roku can't get their crap together and fix the underlying problem.Prior to this last step, I had sent the seller of this adapter a question through the "Ask the seller a question" tool on the Bolo Orders page, to see if they had any advice. They responded quickly, which I appreciate. Normally I give 5-star reviews only when a product is truly excellent, but in this case, I am giving 5 stars because the product performs exactly as expected and because the seller is highly responsive and willing to assist.
5.0 out of 5 stars Works on newer tvs
Recently bought a newTV. No AV inputs but an adapter. This works beautifully
5.0 out of 5 stars Works as designed
I'm using this adapter with a modified classic Famicom that has a 3.5 mm output for the A/V signal in place of the original RF output. This adapter works just as designed and lets me plug standard RCA cables into it and then feed those to my display.
4.0 out of 5 stars perfect fit for TCL tv
worked fine . i was dissapointed with picture quality , but the fault lies with the tv . it doesn't upconvert to better resolution
5.0 out of 5 stars Work well for rear seat entertainment to aftermarket stereo wiring
I used this in my 2004 Ford Explorer to connect the rear seat entertainment to an aftermarket stereo's av input. I didn't use the video but the stereo is a trrs (tip ring ring sleeve) input and I needed one that had the video/ground in the same position as the adapter. Some adapters have it so video/ground are flipped from what my stereo has, which is impossible to fix since the ground is also tied to the ground for the audio signals. Read documentation on your device to make sure the layout works, although it is fine to plug video and one of the audio inputs in backwards if that is how your device is laid out.
1.0 out of 5 stars Colors don't make sense
So I have an older TV that takes a 3.5mm input connector for left, right and video. I'm only using this input to display the onscreen menu from my AV receiver. When I plugged an RCA cable onto the yellow input on this adapter, I got a hum from my TV. Strange, I didn't connect an audio cable. Turns out, on this wonderfully engineered adapter, the video input is the white one. Every cable I have ever had has red for right, white for left and yellow for video. I almost gave up on the TV and threw away this adapter, but plugged the video signal into the white input and viola. Buy another one elsewhere!
5.0 out of 5 stars Works great!
Works as expected.
3.0 out of 5 stars This adapter....
Well it works but not very well with google tv's unless your using an av cable to av adapter but even then I noticed sometime it takes longer for it to recieve signal than others, I'll still use it and run some more tests on various devices and tv's and see if there is a happy median.
EXACTAMENTE LO QUE NECESITABA
Buen producto y funcional.
Does what it is suppose to do
THIS IS FOR TCL BRAND TVs make sure you understand that. It does matter if you have other tv brand as it may not work. Many of today's new tv's don't have the 3 composite input jacks anymore (white, red and yellow RCA jack connections). But they may have a smaller diameter single input jack identified as AV. Check your tv's manual if your tv has one of these and if it is for composite input. If so, this is what you need. Three RCA connections (red/white/yellow) to one 3.5mm AV input. Different tv manufacturer's have different specifications for depth or alignment of the different sections of the 3.5 mm male pin. Use the wrong input jack and the sections of the pin may not align properly and make poor connections if at all. I have used a couple different of these adapters for my TCL tv from Bolo, Best Buy, etc and they did not work. This one is marketed as for being for TCL tvs and it DOES work. Perfectly. It may not work for other manufacturer's so beware, but for my 55" TCL (2021 model) it works great.I am using the connector to use my Super Nintendo and Wii with my TV with no issues.
It works great when colours are changed
Want to connect Ps2 to my Sony oled tv. First it didn’t work but when yellow is connected with red, white with yellow and red with white it works great. Picture quality and sound quality is awesome
Did what it was supposed to.
Ordered this for my TCL tv to play my snes and Saturn on. Worked right out of the bag.
