5.0 out of 5 stars Fun!
This was a lot of fun for a first time kintsugi trier. The little bowls that came with it for practice were helpful, I recommend putting them in a plastic bag (one at a time) and dropping them from a height to get a natural break with bigger pieces. I tried smashing it in the bag with a hammer for one of them and it shattered into too small pieces so I couldn't really put it back together.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great for a personal or small group activity
I coordinated an activity with my family, super great set. The glue was a hard to make it work, but did dry after a few days. If you choose to use with a young crowd make sure the sample bowls are not broken into too many pieces, just one hit with the hammer should work. We did too me small pieces.
4.0 out of 5 stars Breaking the bowls
I thought it was easy to use and the directions were excellent. Make sure to read the directions first. The mixture dries quickly and a little at a time should be made. My only critique would be that there was no instruction on how to break the bowls. I finally gave up and just broke a bowl that I already had.
5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this so much!
Learning kintsugu was on my vision board! I did it thanks to this set!
2.0 out of 5 stars Tacky glue
The items in the kit were beneficial, especially the tiny pottery dishes. I followed the instructions: 1st attempt, I cracked the practice vase and attempted to glue it back together with no success. The glue mixed well with the gold power, and the color was vibrant, but the glue did not seal the vase. I let the vase sit overnight, and the glue was still tacky, and the vase fell apart when I picked it up.On the 2nd attempt, I used Dollar Store super glue, and within one minute, the bond held, and the dish was repaired. Next, I mixed the adhesive in the kit with the gold power to cover up the crack lines in the dish, attempting to create the gold look. I let it dry overnight, but the glue was still wet and tacky. I was not pleased with the outcome. The kit is good for everything but the glue.
5.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says
The kit is very straightforward. I recommend having small bamboo skewers, cotton swabs and alcohol ready when you start fixing your items. Use the skewers to fix cracks as the tip offers more precision than the brushes in the kit. While waiting for the solution to dry, use the cotton swabs dipped in alcohol to clean up any drips more messes on the item. You can also smooth out the edges with the swabs. Good luck!
5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful way to fix pottery
I used this kit to repair the handle of a beloved mug for my friend. The epoxy is a little fiddly, so I’m very glad that they include the little bowls to practice with. I left my practice bowl in the bubble wrap bag and hit it with a small hammer with one sharp rap, and it broke neatly into two pieces.I really appreciate all the tools included in the kit. The little plastic trays were perfect for mixing, although they are a one-time-use item. But, you could always grab a piece of recycling to use to mix instead. You might also be able to use a piece of wax or parchment paper for mixing. The instructions don’t say to, but I used wax paper under my workspace, to prevent permanently bonding pottery to my table. For the handle of the mug, I tried to attach the three middle pieces first, but I should have taken the advice of the instructions and mixed the epoxy for one repaired section at a time. It worked out, but it was fiddly trying to hold three pieces together while they dried. That’s on me; the instructions said to do one at a time.I like that there are two shades of gold powder included in the kit. I used the brassier/oranger color for the dark blue bowl, and I used the gold/yellow color for the turquoise cup. I have cautioned my friend not to lift the mug by the handle, but it does seem pretty sturdy. I will update if there are any new developments in the story of the mug.
3.0 out of 5 stars Sticky, difficult to use, hardens too fast
The color of the glue when mixed with the powder is pretty. Too bad it gets tacky and unusable within 4 minutes, so you either have to re-mix more formula multiple times in the middle of the project (but the instructions say to "assemble as quickly as possible", so that's not a reality), or only use on one or two teensy tiny cracks, definitely not to repair a saucer, cup, or good forbid something as large as a bowl or vase.
