5.0 out of 5 stars Secret dusk-to-dawn sensor!
I bought this because I wanted to have a set of string lights turn on when I arrived home at night. I read another review that complained that there was no dusk-to-dawn sensor and so the motion sensor would trigger during the day. Though that was annoying, I decided it wasn't a deal breaker for me, and went ahead and ordered this motion sensor along with a bridge and an outdoor outlet.I got everything connected to my Ring system and lo and behold: there was a setting that I could use to disable the "light switch" if the ambient light was too high. I could even adjust the detected ambient light threshold. I tested it and yep--if it was too bright out, the lights didn't turn on. But when it was dark, the lights turned on as expected. There is also a separate dusk-to-dawn setting in the Ring app, but I disabled that and am just using the motion sensor's light sensor to determine when to trigger the string lights.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good sensor- impressed with how easy to set up & use
This sensor works good. It truly took care my blind spots, Battery life is really good, and looks good also. This is a 5 out of 5 for me. I highly recommend to other customers. Good stable product.👍🏽.
4.0 out of 5 stars Location
Like with any other Ring product you need to find that sweet spot between location and sensitivity. I bought the remote sensor to detect deliveries that sometimes the Spotlight cams would miss. You know, you come home and there's a package on your porch and no detection, or video of anyone being there, or maybe their back as they are walking or driving away.I place the sensor at the end of my driveway to detect anyone coming up my driveway. It was 1st facing east and every little flicker of sunlight or shadow was setting it off. I was getting notification every minute no matter what sensitivity setting it was on. I have since moved the sensor to face north across the driveway and it is somewhat protected from direct sunlight and it has vastly improve or reduced the number of false detection.Easy to install. A little tricky getting the battery cover off. Battery life, its been about a month and they are at 98%.As for the issues with batters corroding, it hasn't been that long and I wrapped a piece of electrical tape around the sensor hopefully sealing it better and i also put it inside a little bird house cover to protect it from direct exposure.Would i buy it again, not sure, Don't have a need for a 2nd one and it depends on how long this one lasts. Hopefully I'll ever need to do is change the batteries. Regards.
5.0 out of 5 stars Works flawlessly
Purchased this sensor to activate outdoor lighting using Alexa but was hesitant that it wouldn't work the way I was hoping. Man was I wrong. This was the ONLY outdoor motion sensor I could find that works with Alexa and has seamless integration with other smart devices (through Alexa). Connected outdoor lights to outdoor smart plug, installed Ring bridge (req'd even with Alexa) and Ring motion sensor, and added all those smart devices to Alexa and made a routine to power the smart plug when motion is detected. Even added a condition in Alexa to only perform the routine during nighttime hours and added a second routine to power off the smart plug after 1min of no motion detected. So not only will the motion sensor trigger the lights, but I can have Alexa turn them on and off via voice command.Gotta love these smart devices! Next up is to trigger a siren when someone walks up on my deck at night!
1.0 out of 5 stars WHAT'S HAPPENED AT RING? ANOTHER LESS THAN STELLAR PRODUCT & A KIND RING PERSON WHO COULDN'T
I bought this product because of a gross defect in the Ring Smart Lighting Floodlight Wired PIR in an _eave mount_ installation. As you can see by the photo I uploaded, the motion detector in that unit cannot rotate any higher & it only catches a person about 8 feet from the unit although the panoramic catch zone is wide. It picks me up more than 180 degrees to the side. Looking closely in the pic you can see the ability. As a side note, I asked a ring rep MULTIPLE times to get a drawing of the pattern for the PIR in the light unit, and for whatever reason, they don't seem to want to make one available. It would have saved me a lot work.ALMOST THE SAME PROBLEM EXISTS WITH THIS UNIT. I installed it on a flat surface at the 5" height, instructions say between 4 & 6 feet. In the 2nd pic you can see in the upper left the eave mounted light unit, and to the middle right this additional detection unit. The 3rd pic is a close up of this unit mounted. NOTE THAT I HAD TO USE DOUBLED SIDED TAPE SHIMS FOR NOW BECAUSE THE SCREWS REFUSED TO GO IN ALL THE LAST 1/16" EVEN THOUGH I PRE-DRILLED THE HOLES. I didn't want to use my electric screwdriver to try to put them in further for fear that that might strip the screw heads & make them impossible to remove. I will be correcting that soon with a trip to Home Depot for different, slightly shorter screws, but I wanted to make sure this would cure the issue with the Ring Smart Floodlight. So far it has not AND I AM KINDA LIVID I HAD TO PAY AN ADDITIONAL $25 TO SURE A PROBLEM IN THE OTHER RING PRODUCT. SOMETHING JUST SEEMS WRONG ABOUT THAT!As to the "KIND RING PERSON WHO COULDN'T"... Due to my 1 star review of the Smart Lighting unit, I was contacted by a person who said he was an Bolo Executive Community Support Representative . He has been DILIGENT in responding to me & was the one who finally got me a pic of a correct Eave mounted unit. BUT HE HAS SO FAR BEEN UNABLE TO GET ME A SIMPLE PATTERN DIAGRAM OF THE PIR UNIT IN THE LIGHT & I suspect the same will be true of this unit.I do not think this has been his fault. Something has definitely changed at Ring. When I bought my original products around 2 years ago, if there was an issue, I could call AND GET AN ANSWER RIGHT THEN. THAT HAS MOST DEFINITELY CHANGED UNDER Bolo..These are good products, BUT IF THEY CANNOT INSTALL CORRECTLY THEY ARE BASICALLY USELESS in effecting the complete scope of their intended use.IT BECOMES FAR WORSE WHEN RING IS THE STUMBLING BLOCK HIDING OR OMITTING THE NEEDED INFO.
It’s works good for what I need it for.
Works perfect! just what I needed in the backYard.
