We are a Garmin and Apple family with four Garmins and two Apple Watches. I use this Garmin for walking, running, cycling, stretching and general workouts. I’m very happy with this watch and the data it provides. As I said I can compare this watch to several others. Let’s start with battery life. Our Apples are on the charger every night. The Garmins all go at least a week, I average 9 days. We also have an Instinct, a 965, and a Golf. Biggest “complaint” is forgetting to charge them.My 255 connects to my Apple iPhone 15 without issue. It also connects seamlessly with my MacBook Pro, zero issues. I have and use separate HRM’s because for intense workouts I don’t think a wrist based HRM is the answer. My chest strap is much better than my watch for workouts. The 965 however is much more accurate during runs (compared against arm strap HRM) so Garmin maybe uses different HR sensors in different models? For walking and general use during the day my 255 works great!Value for $… I’d strongly recommend this watch without hesitation if you’re thinking about entering the fitness watch/smart watch world.I entered this fitness data world because of age. I have a friend who is alive because of data changes he noticed in his heart during exercise. A triple bypass later and this fit cyclist is still riding with me. At 60+ I thought this data was for younger more aggressive athletes. Not so. I am now a data nerd and train regularly partly because of it.Didn’t think it was important, in honesty didn’t know it was a thing but I now am aware of HRV, FTP, Training Status, Sleep tracking, and Watts. It’s addictive. But knowledge is power and knowledge can be healthy. I owe a 25 pound weight loss to this knowledge (and a lot of work). This watch alone won’t cause weight loss but for me it was a part of the puzzle.I really like my Garmin Forerunner 255. That said, my next one will probably be a 965, but at the price difference I’m not 100% sure the difference is justified, certainly not if this is your intro to the data! The reason I will likely “upgrade” is simply because my daughter has the 965 and I want to be able to share that (cool, we both have the same watch) with her 😉Final thought as I wrap up this review, as I said I’m getting older and as such my near vision isn’t great without readers but I can actually see the time on this watch so.. there’s that.
5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to setup- Nice features
Great Smart watch- Looks good and does everything I need it to. Used for biking
5.0 out of 5 stars Gotta say, I'm a fan of Garmin again.
Years ago I got sick and tired of Garmin watch batteries failing after only a few months, and getting generally poor long term performance out of their watches. I switched to a Suunto Ambit 3 which lasted for... nearly a decade? Quite a while anyway. Then when that battery started to fail so I bought a Suunto Vertical. What an overpriced POS that turned out to be! So, lacking better ideas, I went back to a mid-priced Garmin. The 255 has been great. Battery life isn't really as long as advertised, unless I maybe have a bunch of features enabled that I don't care about but are draining the battery faster. Even so, I don't care, it lasts a couple days rather than X hours in one day, and that's good enough for me. The feature set is more than I need, it's reliable, it's easy to read in all light, the GPS tracks and HR averages are close enough for my purposes, and the charging cable actually connects and stays connected. No major complaints whatsoever.
5.0 out of 5 stars My son’s favorite Christmas gift!
My husband and I both own Garmin‘s and my son just picked up running and this was his favorite Christmas gift. I love all the features and vow that this is the best watch out there.
5.0 out of 5 stars I want one!
I have another Garmin and got this for my son. He runs XC and track. This watch is very accurate, easy to use and has the best feature - you can see the text images! My vivoactive Garmin can't do that and when more people send images than texts, this is a very handy feature.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great Sports Watch
I started to take my fitness seriously and bought this watch mainly to track my swims and collect data. I chose the forerunner because had enough functionality to expand into other sports such as running and cycling. So far it has been extremely accurate in terms of counting laps, stroke count etc. I has only been off once by one lane and I swim about 3 times a week. And I haven't tried out the other sports functions. The band is nice and doesn't chaff, the 46mm size faces isn't too big on me, even though I have pretty small wrist for a dude. And the battery life is great. I went two weeks without charging the thing. I have been pretty happy with it and don't regret my purchase. My only complaint is the screen is pretty dim even when it is lit up. Though if you have a bigger budget I would recommend getting an upgraded model for a better screen. It is totally workable, but you get what you pay for.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good fitness watch
This is an improvement over my older Garmin watch. I have used this watch for a few moths now. I like the fitness tracking through Garmin. Having the training plan options is also nice.
5.0 out of 5 stars Durable, great battery life
I’m hard on my watches. They do not get special treatment, it’s a tool that lives on my wrist 24/7. This watch has been extremely durable, the battery life is so long it surprises me when it needs a charge. I use it for fitness tracking and use the GPS feature once a week on a run. More GPS use will obviously shorten the battery life, but it lasts exactly as advertised. I enjoy the lack of a touch screen and it took little time to adapt from my original venu sq interface. Well worth the upgrade. I prefer this watch as the bezel is full height to the plane of the crystal and the glass is subsequently well protected as it is strong.
Excelente opción para llevar registro y evolución de mis entrenamientos.
(function(){ P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function'){ A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })() El producto llegó a tiempo y sin ningún inconveniente.Es exactamente lo que necesitaba para llevar a cabo mis entrenamientos. Tiene varias funcionalidades que me permitieron personalizar de acuerdo a mis necesidades.Muy buen producto.
I cant ever go back
I have been a long time smart watch user, first purchasing a Samsung gear watch sometime in 2017. That watch was terrible, and I realized having notifications on my wrist is a TERRIBLE idea. I only wore that watch for a year or two before moving to the cheapest Fitbit in 2019 and then a fitbit Charge HR in 2021.The whole time I was with Fitbit I did not even realize they were subscription based, I had a free year with my first one and I got some extension on it although I cant remember why. With the Charge HR the subscription suddenly was only a few months.Using the Charge HR I started getting into running and tracking my runs, and the Fitbit NEVER looked the same as my phone by a wide margin, even with GPS supposedly on the device. My heart rate would fluctuate wildly and the data was not useful at all. Eventually my Charge HR subscription ran out and I practically threw the thing away that day.Garmin is awesome, accurate, well made, great battery life I could go on and on. For running or tracking any activity, its the best I have ever used by a long shot. I highly recommend this for anyone who is looking to up their fitness game and track long term health trends. The app was not the best but recently had an update and has (I think) a better layout which makes reading data easier.
Garmin Forerunner® 255 is more cost effective than 265
great deal good quality as in photo
Gamin Forerunner 255 English / Francais
My son wanted a smartwatch, and I had read many positive reviews. For his birthday, I bought a Garmin 255 Forerunner for him and myself. We would have the same watch and could compete against each other. However, after only 24 hours, I returned the watch immediately. Here's why:The credit card payment method is completely ridiculous. They only accept a few credit cards that no one has ever heard of in Canada. The image quality is comparable to a super VGA screen from the 1990s... Older folks will understand that it's mediocre. The Garmin IQ Store... There's not much that works and is representative of the advertised image. Moreover, you may encounter apps that crash and give you buggy "IQ!" scores... Good luck finding a solution. We contacted Garmin, and their response was: "Problem with third-party apps or update problem."Essentially, Garmin doesn't have an agreement with Canadian banks, and the Connect IQ is like the Google Store but with few good options. However, I decided to keep the watch. My son was happy that we had the same watch, and he loves Garmin's features. After a weekend, I also found that I appreciated the watch's features, and it perfectly met my initial goal: to motivate each other to push ourselves, at a reasonable price, without the unnecessary gadgets that only drain the battery. So, quality-price ratio 5/5 for athletes.Gadgets: 1/5Big disappointment: Claiming that the watch has the "Garmin Pay" touch payment mode when it is REALLY limited to almost none.
