5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product
Mouse that works very well with hands of a size M. It is used mainly with finger and wrist movement, leaving the rest of the arm completely unloaded. If you come from a normal mouse, you will probably need some time to adapt, in my case it was a couple of weeks. The scroll wheel works well, and can be adjusted. It has two buttons. Perhaps a third button at the top could be an interesting improvement. In terms of connectivity, in my case I use it via bluetooth connection and it works perfectly.Although not a cheap mouse, I recommend it 100%.
5.0 out of 5 stars Old school trackball style
I'm a bit of a rollerball addict and they are an acquired taste. I've had every kind. Wired, wireless, thumb rollerballs, palm rollerballs like this one, ones that use the first couple of fingers. This one is a nice break for my arthritic fingers. It doesn't have all kinds of extra bells and whistles like some of them do but it is kind of perfect as it is.It's solid, you can use finger tips or your entire palm to work the ball. It has the right and left mouse buttons where they should be on the right and left of the ball. They are large so you don't have to have your hand strategically placed, it's kind of hard to miss them. The scroll ring took a little getting used to but now I love it.I have one of those crazy shaped ergonomic roller ball mouse with the thumb ball at home and took this one to work. I spend pretty much the full 8 hours banging on the keyboard at work and this has really given my fingers a bit of rest. I'm right handed and my right pointer finger after too many breaks and sprains, is pretty arthritic. My last mouse used the first two fingers on the ball and my finger could be pretty sore by the end of each day. This one, I'm using my entire palm to move the ball around and it feels great.Again, trackballs are definitely an adjustment if you've never used them before... oh yeah and speaking of adjustments, don't judge it before you adjust the cursor speed to suit you. When I got this one, the cursor was set so fast that I couldn't track it with my eyes.
5.0 out of 5 stars A very comfortable trackball
I like this trackball mouse. I'm using the usb receiver with a laptop and a tablet. I have not downloaded the software and only use the basic buttons. The mouse fits the palm of my hand and is easy for my fingers to manipulate. It has rubber feet that keep it strictly where I put it. Because of the way I position myself I don't need the optional wrist rest. In case you have a laptop, I did have to learn to unplug the usb receiver if I want to use my laptop's touch pad, otherwise my cursor and I both go crazy.
3.0 out of 5 stars Great wireless trackball option, but would benefit from some minor improvements in design. UPDATED:
I am coming from a Logitech Marble Mouse, with over 15 years of usage on it. The Marble Mouse has finally hit end of life and it was time for a replacement. I was able to briefly try some of the Elecom mice, that a friend had purchased.. and I was overall disappointed with those. The form factor was either way too tall and short length wise, or the ball was just way too big/heavy (maybe they will figure out a good design eventually). I did use an old school Kensington blue trackball mouse back in the day, so I am familiar with this general mouse shape. I have used this new Kensington for a few months now, including gaming. So anyways onto the Kensington mouse:Ergonomics/comfort: 7/10 It's plenty acceptable, but as some other reviewer said, the button placement relative to how you control the ball, is a bit "off". I don't understand why the buttons are not shifted back, at least a tiny bit further on the device (with exception to internal design restrictions). If you set up your hand on the mouse, and press the center of the buttons, it places the ball more towards the palm of my hand, than the finger tips, which isn't ideal. I sort of rotate the mouse and so on to make it work. I do not use the wrist rest it comes with.Scroll wheel: 10/10 Excellent idea, finally able to have a scroll wheel with a trackball, as the Logitech always lacked this feature. I find it very comfortable and satisfying to use.Ball Accuracy/Smoothness: 10/10 Everything is solid in this area, precision of the ball relative to mouse cursor is so good (night and day over the old Logitech). The DPI adjustments are fine but I don't use them often.Button/Switches: 6/10 Honestly wish the switches had a lighter feel and were more quiet. They are rather slow in actuation and a bit stiff. This makes it more fatiguing on the hand as well. I guess we'll see how they feel after a good period of usage. I would like to see a change in this for sure (I doubt it but one could hope).Wireless: 10/10 Using the 2.4Ghz, I have no complaints, no lag or anything either.Gaming: 7.5/10 Honestly it works just fine for me, having the extra resolution ball sensor makes everything so much better, wish I had this a long time ago. Sometimes I hit the scroll wheel by accident. Depending on the game and in general, the slower/stiffer/longer travel switches make for a more fatiguing experience than on the old Logitech; or basically what you'd get on most laser/optical mice on the market.Build/Material Quality: 9/10 Of course this could change, but initially the build quality seems perfectly fine. I couldn't find any defects. The body feels durable and generally the same as any other good mouse. I like the amount of padded feet it has, and it stays put.Overall I'm satisfied with this as a good wireless upgrade/replacement of the Logitech Marble Mouse, though I'll say the shape of the Logitech was a little more comfortable in the palm area. I'll update if anything goes wrong.Update: After using the mouse for about 9 months, I'd like to say the buttons have not loosened up any. I am pretty disappointed in their choice for switches. It's super fatiguing especially if you have any hand tightness, etc. The buttons/switches always make using the PC feel slightly slower, since click speeds takes longer with double clicks and so on. The ball isn't as smooth as it was, but my Logitech trackballs always were about the same, never stayed quite as smooth as new. Battery life and application usage are all good, build quality has held up. I can say for sure the design is not as good for the hand though. There is not enough support in the palm area. The Logitech had more palm support and I can tell my hand is suffering a bit now. Overall I still like the Kensington mouse, especially the scroll wheel and high DPI, but few other things as I mention, fall short.
4.0 out of 5 stars Accurate and easy to use, wish the scroll ring was better and had more buttons.
The trackball itself is excellent and accurate. I use this trackball daily for about 8 hours a day and it works really well. The scroll ring doesn't feel as polished as the rest of the device. I wish its movement was more like an actual scroll wheel. When scrolling the movement isn't always consistent and it's hard to get its senstivity to be consistent. The other issue is that there are only 2 mouse buttons. I used the Kensington software to set pressing both buttons together as the back button for navigating backwards in web and file browsers, but since there's only two buttons, there's no other button combination for forward navigation. There's aso no way to program anything for navigating between desktop spaces. Overall it's still a good mouse and does its job just fine. It just lacks additional features that would have with standard mice thse days.
Amazing quality and perfect for my use
Needed a trackball or trackpad mouse for my racing simulator. Was annoyed at using a normal mouse as I had limited room on my keyboard stand. Looked in to trackpads but wasn't practical as I'm using a triple monitor rig and don't want to be swiping over and over to get across the screen. Decided to give this track ball a try and wow. Absolutely perfect for my use and an amazing product. Good materials, sensitive settings so you're not bothered trying to select something and having the mouse jump around, ergonomic and very comfortable to use. Love the scroll wheel, and the placement of the buttons are perfectly distanced from the ball it self. I have a moderately normal to large size hand so for me it's a perfect size. Didn't expect it to be this big of a product but then again I had no idea what to expect when purchasing and now after having it for a month, I can safely say I'm very happy with the size and the product overall. 100% would recommend to anyone and especially those with racing rigs, this is the best option you'll ever find. I do wish it was around $50, found it to be a little pricy but then again, everything nowadays is. And for the quality you receive, you're definitely not complaining about the price, just in the grand scheme of things, it would be nice if it was a bit cheaper.Overall 10/10
My first trackball and I am impressed
I swapped over to this for ergonomic reasons and I'm happy with my choice. It feels very comfortable to use. The accuracy is good and you learn very quickly, I felt nearly as proficient as I was with my mouse after about two weeks, where I stopped even thinking about it being a trackball. That said I do not play video games so I can't vouch for anything related to that. The wireless over USB Type-A dongle is a huge plus for me as its a feature not seen often on trackballs.- The KensingtonWorks software for configuration is nice, however it seems that it doesn't write to the device itself. So if you move to another setup your settings won't stick. This throws me off guard often when I'm on a different computer and I try to use my middle click macro.- I wish the wrist rest installed better, it is just a very tiny lip that sticks under the main device. This means you can't pick it up without the wrist rest falling off, and I would consider the wrist rest mandatory for comfort. So this is annoying to me.- I have heard that the bearings on the trackball and scroll ring are not good, but they are acceptable for me right now. I haven't had any issues with "sticky spots", just that the scroll ring is a little loud.Overall, I would definitely recommend it to anybody considering trying out a trackball. It's cheap enough to not be a big loss if you don't like it, and if you do like it, you'll love it.
This is better than the expert mouse imo
It's way smaller than the expert mouse. The shape is friendlier to your hand - my fingers work within a smaller range of movement vs the expert mouse. Also the awkward slope of the expert mouse makes it that you have an awkward hand position. In contrast, your hand rests on a relaxed state on the Orbit mouse.
Get the wired version
I have both the wired and bluetooth versions of this trackball. The bluetooth version goes to sleep WAY too fast, and is only woken up by a button-press.Essentially every time I go to use it, it's asleep. Then a minute later, it's asleep. You can't configure it.
Updated- Missing piece - VERY disappointed
After making arrangements to return, I was packing the mouse back into the box and just happened to notice the USB receiver poked into a random part of the cardboard packaging. A part I would have simply tossed in recycling. Nothing to indicate it was there. Nothing.I’ve cancelled the return but because of the awful packaging I am only giving 3 stars.Do better Kensington.————————————————-So excited to set this up as I have this same brand at work. It’s missing the most important part. Can you guess which one?it’s useless to me so I will return it and buy directly from a store where I can check it out first. Not a good start to a Monday morning 🫤
