5.0 out of 5 stars Love the milk, hate the bucket!
This dried milk, once mixed, is the best dried milk I've ever had. It has a slight sweetness to it and doesn't have the unpleasant aftertaste other dried milks typically have. The milk is somewhat expensive but fresh milk goes bad fairly quickly and I'm not able to just jump in a car and go get more any time I need to. Dried milk allows me to make only what I need without letting any spoil and go to waste.I love the milk but HATE the storage bucket which is a nightmare. When initially opening the bucket, the pull tab strip broke off before it was pulled even a fourth of the way around the lid. I then had to use a combination of a box cutter, sharp scissors, and a pair of heavy-duty pliers to finish the job - pull the pull tab strip all the way around the lid, smooth off the 4 large locking lid tabs, and get the lid removed. Then, there's the pulling and the hassle every time you go to get more dried milk out of the bucket. After some trial and error, I've finally discovered that a 5.5" flat pry bar tool works great and saves my fingers. I tried a 5 gallon bucket and pail opener, but it really didn't work with the smaller 1 gallon Birch & Meadow storage pail. Apparently, they don't make them for 1 gallon buckets. If anyone is interested, I purchased this 4 piece pry bar set: https://www.Bolo.com/dp/B0CYWZH24C?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1(and no, I'm not getting any compensation, just sharing what worked for me)I figured, if you're gonna pay $8 - $10 for one inidividual piece anyway, why not buy an entire set with different sizes for $18 (with $2 Bolo coupon)? It's a much better deal (price per piece), it'll solve my problem, and I'll have a variety of pry tool sizes to add to my ever-growing tool arsenal for future projects. You just never know when a particular tool will come in handy and be just what you need. I'll save you a lot of trial & error and frustration I had to go through. For anyone else that loves Birch & Meadow milk but hates dealing with the storage bucket, the flat pry tool is the ticket! You're welcome!
5.0 out of 5 stars Powder milk
My friend is happy with the product.
5.0 out of 5 stars A very good pantry essential.
The Birch and Meadow powdered whole milk has an excellent flavor. I use it particularly when I bake bread at home. One or two scoops (scoop not included) when added to the bread dough really improve the taste. It is a good way to avoid using table sugar because of the high lactose (natural sugar in milk) content. I like that it is packaged in a heavy duty plastic container that includes a handle for easy carrying. The one gallon size container saves money because it is buying the powdered milk in a bulk amount.
4.0 out of 5 stars Tastes and smells weird
The smell and flavor are just off putting enough that I won’t buy this again. It made my cereal taste like I’d added some substitute sweetener to it rather than the typical sweetness of milk. I’m going back to the other powdered milk I usually use.The seller contacted me and gave a full refund.
5.0 out of 5 stars Milk is good
The milk is pure and you get enough for what you pay for
5.0 out of 5 stars Taste great
When I bought this powdered milk I thought it would taste like the other nasty powdered milk. To my surprise it had a great taste. I use it whenever I run out of milk. It is very hard to tell the difference. Can’t go wrong with this powdered milk. Buy an extra one for prepping.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good flavor
Easy to mix good flavor
1.0 out of 5 stars Unusable container, no instructions, no scoop, no milk on the Birch and Meadow website.
I will not buy this again. It is too hard to get open - I don't want to be wresting with a poorly designed bucket every time I have to open and reseal this thing. The lid part that you are supposed to be able to tear off and open the bucket in a reasonable fashion just does not work. I would have cut along the tearaway line with a knife or shears or something.Does not come with either instructions or scoop. I thought that I would just go to the Birch and Meadow web site for instructions. Nope. Their product page does not list milk. For me, this is an unusable product.
