5.0 out of 5 stars Simple setup; great feature set; solid performance
I'm impressed with how easy Denon made the setup procedure for this receiver. I've set up a few receivers in the past and this was by far the most straightforward. Even the layout of the plugs on the back are done in such a way to make connections easy even if you're using bare wire (although banana plugs are still the way to go). The icing on the cake is that the plugs are color coded, with a set of labels provided so you can label your speaker wires top match. My only quibble on the setup process is that the screen font used for the setup wizard is terrible -- looks like something from the 1980s.The feature set is very rich, and it can take some time to become familiar with. The full manual is available from the Denon site. It's a comprehensive 300+ page guide. But, learning the basics is quick, so diving into the manual is something to do only if you want to tweak and improve things. The auto speaker calibration is OK -- it will produce a decent sound that most people would be happy with. Doing it manually is more time consuming, but in my case provided a much better end result since I have an unusual room layout. My system consists of a Polk ES-35 center; Polk ES-15 fronts; Polk ES-10 surrounds; SVS PB-1000 sub.Over the years I've had various Denon and Onkyo receivers and have always preferred the sound quality of the Denon's. This is no exception -- five stars.
5.0 out of 5 stars Best receiver I have ever purchased.
Amazing sound quality. Full of features and connectivity. You get a lot for your money. Easy setup. As an audiophile I have purchased many supposedly high end audio equipment but none did not sound as great as this unit.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great product for the price, albeit with speaker connection considerations!
Love the features and Denon sound! I’ve had the unit for 3 months. It took about 30 hours of fun before I had it al down. With computer-like selection, these page to page internal maps gradually unleashed a killer sound and variety, with some disappointments (see later in review), but for the money this is a great sounding unit! I have a large bedroom-sized room for music and movies. Incredible upgrade from my previous setup. But BEWARE before you buy this model, that it’s a 7.2 output, including a second zone . The receiver can give you Dolby Atmos, Height and surround backs etc., and a second stereo zone, but you share ONE pair of speaker terminals on the x1700 for all of these extra features. (There are 2 subwoofer outs, but only for the main zone, so it’s really 7.2.) Another nice feature is an excellent phono pre-amp.One quirk. You can’t have a zone 2 set and Dolby Atmos at the same time without going to the back of the receiver and changing the wires. An internal speaker patch would be a great cure for this, but then you could just spend another $500 and get the x3000 9.2 series units with more headroom, too, although this is a punchy little monster through my Linn speakers and a KLH and JBL subs and JBL Studio Monitor 4311 sides. I have one sub behind the listening position so I can reach back and adjust 80-500hz at will. The price went up 10% a few months after I bought it, so beware if you’re on the fence.
5.0 out of 5 stars No issues
I purchased this as a replacement for my home theater. After a few movies of different genres, still loving it. Atmos was the draw for me and it paid off. I was able to keep my existing speakers and add front reflection facing speakers (I purchased the Polk). I was skeptical but am now a believer. The built in functionality to manage speaker levels worked like a champ. Menus and ease of use are above par. Output power is a bit less than previous receiver but works fine to fill an 18' x 30' room.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great value for this receiver. Fully featured and sounds amazing
I upgraded from an S740H and this sounds significantly better. It was definitely worth the upgrade. A few small complaints. 1) Switching to speakers that are not 8 Ohms is a bit quirky, and should be on the user interface. 2) The Audyssey mobile app is very cool but it should come included with the purchase of the receiver. $25 for the app is overpriced in my opinion.

Great receiverGreat soundEasy to setup
3.0 out of 5 stars 4k/8k HDMI doesn't work with earlier models
The Denon AVR-X1700 was relatively easy to set up. The Audyssey set up was nice, but depending on the speakers used, you would have to manually change the center speaker to small to match satellite speakers and then manually adjust your cross over points. Like every thing else, it did not come with a detailed instruction manual, so you spend a lot of time on the Denon web site researching how to properly set up and use the receiver. It can be confusing and time consuming. The sound was really good, but the major problem is the EARC/8K/4K connection. One would probably never notice unless you had the software or television that shows the refresh rate, HDR, VRR, and Latency rates. Except for HDR, PS5 120hz refresh-VRR-and Low Latency do not work with the early versions of this model. Was told by Denon that if the last four digits of the receiver's serial number is 7000 or below, that these functions do not work properly. Fortunately I have a Samsung that has the Gaming bar that shows these rates in real time, or I would probably never known, other than when trying to select the 4k/8k function on the receiver, it will tell you TV not configured for 4k/8k. After calling and turning on remote access to Samsung, they informed me it was the receiver. I then called Denon, (whose customer service is very good and easy to understand), and they confirmed that it was an issue with this model with serial numbers ending in less than 7000. I was told to either return the item or I could create a ticket and ask for a HDMI adapter that MIGHT fix the problem. I feel that a $700 dollar receiver shouldn't need an add on HDMI adapter to work properly, so I am returning the item. So even if you don't have either the software or television that shows you these functions, be cautious if your recievers serial number falls into this range or when trying to select the 4k/8k option and you get the notice of "TV not configured for this type of connection". What bothers me is that the sellers should know of this issue since this is an older model and Denon has know about it for awhile, and nothing is mentioned, knowing that most will not notice. Your paying the extra cost for these features and not even getting them.

Excelente Receiver
Excelente receiver.
