5.0 out of 5 stars Super Cool!
Ok, so this was definitely not a necessity, but it was fun! The kit comes, you create a login to their website, add the kit number, then swab your cat's mouth (definitely the hardest part), mail it in, and hang tight for a couple weeks for results. I wanted to see really what they could figure out, so I didn't include much at all about my actual cat. No photos uploaded, no age put in their system, literally his name and nothing else. The stuff they figured out was impressive. They identified his coloration, eye color, tail length, and even some personality stuff when you look at breed details. I actually bought two more kits, one for my boyfriend for his cat and the other for my mom's dog!
5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use
It was easy to use. I had suspected my cat was a Ragdoll mix. He had all the traits and little quirks. So I took the test and yes he's a Ragdoll mix. I also found out important health information and information on carrier status of certain diseases.
5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive testing with ease
I wanted some DNA testing for my long-haired domestic cat that we adopted from the shelter. Poor kid is a lemon (but incredibly handsome) and has several medical issues at only 4.5 years old, so I wanted to see if there was any evidence of potential medical issues that could be detected on DNA testing. He also has a few traits I’ve seen in Maine Coon cats, so I was wondering if he had any in him. Testing him was relatively easy and packaging directions were simple. We sent the test off and a couple weeks later had his comprehensive DNA results in my email…only 9% Maine Coon, but it’s in there! The format of the results was informative and easy to assess and I’m happy we ran it.
4.0 out of 5 stars Who knew?
My cat's dna is pretty weird. She is a stubby, chubby, long-haired kitty with a touch of Sphynx dna. Those kitties are long & lean & naked! The other results were a bit of a surprise, too. Maine Coon? She's not a big girl.
1.0 out of 5 stars No response from customer service
Results were inaccurate, could have been contaminated sample but I kept the sample away from my other cat. I was wanting to use this to verify my cat as a Norwegian forest cat as he fits all physical descriptions. However the results said he was a shorthair cat with some oriental cat. This couldn’t be farther from the truth as my cat I tested is a long hair cat with a double coat. I emailed customer service as that is the only option they offer on their website and asked for clarification and help resolving this problem of inaccurate results and never received a response back. To me this is a waste of $100+ and their customer support is terrible. I would rather research and see if there is a blood draw test done by vets than do the mouth swab thing again. I might be an outlier but buyer beware if you have more than one cat in your home. And I did follow the instructions and remove all food for the allotted time it said before taking the swab sample.
5.0 out of 5 stars Surprising and Helpful
I bought one for both of my furbabies. It was especially nice to have the health reports! They were mostly all clear of the tested genetic risks (they tested for 49, that's amazing!). Ziggy's was, but Charlie has one flagged as "notable" that I need to be aware of. I love that, to help me understand what it is and what it means, they give you a free 15 minute consultation with one of their vets. What's more, I can print out the whole genetics report of both cats for my own vet to have a copy of.The breed reports were really fun to read. Ziggy's didn't have many surprises. 99% American Domestic Cat and 1% American Curl. I hadn't heard of the last and it didn't represent Ziggy at all, but that is expected as it is only 1%. Charlie's was a lot more surprising. The Siamese was expected but the Norwegian Forest Cat was a surprise! In hindsight though it makes so much sense. Especially for his size. Also, the personality traits for Siamese mostly fit Charlie, but not completely. However when added to the Norwegian Forest Cat, it makes exactly Charlie! Lol!I really felt Wisdom Panel genuinely cares about the welfare of animals and I am glad I did these test. It well help me have peace of mind and insight into my cat's makeup and health.
