5.0 out of 5 stars Works great for me!
I used this to check out some files on a disk, have not and probably will not use the burn feature. This is super easy and simple to use, it’s compact. Noise is as to be expected just hear the disk running in there like any other disk drive. I like the sleek design, it’s plastic but seems durable. I believe I saw a review that mentioned they weren’t able to remove their disk by pressing the button, I believe that’s a safety feature. I use a Mac and the disc automatically pops out when I eject on my computer (drag the drive to the trash bin).I do wish the insert for the cord included and opening for the usb-c attachment. I worry i will lose that little bit.
5.0 out of 5 stars Review for External DVD Drive USB 3.0 Type-C...
**External DVD Drive USB 3.0 Type-C Review****Overview:**The External DVD Drive USB 3.0 Type-C is a portable optical drive that allows you to read and write CDs and DVDs on your USB-C enabled devices. It's compatible with laptops, desktops, and even smartphones and tablets that support USB-C.**Design and Build:**The drive is compact and lightweight, weighing just over half a pound. Its sleek black finish and matte texture give it a stylish appearance. The cable is attached to the drive, which makes it easy to carry around without worrying about losing it.**Performance:**The drive uses a USB 3.0 interface, providing fast data transfer speeds. I tested it with a variety of CDs and DVDs, and it read and wrote both disc types smoothly and quickly. The drive is also backward compatible with USB 2.0, but the data transfer speeds will be slower.**Compatibility:**The drive is widely compatible with Windows, macOS, Linux, and Chrome OS operating systems. It works seamlessly with my Windows 10 laptop and MacBook Pro. I also tested it with my Android smartphone and it was able to read and write CDs without any issues.**Features:**In addition to reading and writing CDs and DVDs, the drive also supports M-DISC technology. M-DISCs are archival-grade discs that are designed to last for hundreds of years, making them ideal for storing important data.**Pros:*** Compact and lightweight design* USB 3.0 interface for fast data transfers* Compatible with a wide range of devices* Supports M-DISC technology**Cons:*** No write protection switch* May not be suitable for heavy-duty use**Overall:**The External DVD Drive USB 3.0 Type-C is a reliable and portable optical drive that's perfect for reading and writing CDs and DVDs on USB-C enabled devices. Its compact design and fast performance make it a great companion for anyone who needs to access optical media on the go.
4.0 out of 5 stars It worked on my Ubuntu install
I run Ubuntu and this drive has worked perfectly as both a player and a burner for CD's so far. More info. below.I'm only going to give 4 stars for now because I just got the drive and I haven't tested it thoroughly. The review may go up or down with time. For example, I've only tried CD's so far, not DVD's yet.I don't know why the advertisement would say that it works on linux, but that it doesn't work on Ubuntu. Typically, Ubuntu is one of the most "It just works" distros out there. For example, I run Ubuntu because I have an Nvidia graphics card and Arch doesn't play nice with nvidia, especially if you want to run the proprietary Nvidia drivers, which I did because nouveau is not nearly as good as proprietary with my card.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, easy to use and at a good price !
I've used this DVD drive to load a couple of legacy programs on my new laptop, as well as burn over a dozen CDs to my music library. It works like a charm and is very easy to use.
5.0 out of 5 stars DVD Player
Got a Saw 2004 DVD for Christmas and got this so I could watch it on my laptop. Works great and I love the little indent at the bottom to store the cord. Reads my DVD just fine, super compact.
5.0 out of 5 stars Quick and easy to use.
This product helps me see pictures on cd’s I’d made years ago. It’s quick and easy yo use as it attaches to your computer with a USB cord. It has solved the mystery of where some of our favorite photos are and I can download them to my computer also. New computers do not have a disk drive so this is the perfect solution.
3.0 out of 5 stars Works, but connecting cable is way too short for many setups
I have used this device for several months and it seems to function well enough - I have had no breakdowns, and the quality of reproduction is fine. But the connecting cable is a mere 6 inches long, which is very short for many PC arrangements (I use mine with a desktop, and it was very awkward having to rearrange all of the things around my PC just so that I could plug the DVD into an available USB). Oh, and plugging the connecting cable into an extension lead does not work (I know, you will think it should, but it doesn't - perhaps an inpedance issue, but the DVD player will not play.) I would not buy this model again.
4.0 out of 5 stars Working fine. Came with loose trim.
I bought this for today's "modern" laptops, that have no CD drive in them. I still like my CDs, and ITunes. To me, hard copies are a must for music. This external drive, has a built in USB-A cable that stores under the unit, in a recessed track, so its nice to transport. The cable also powers the drive from the laptop. The front eject button pops it open, and like traditional drives, you pull it open when it releases. It is designed and acts like a built in drive. I don't see any lag out of the ordinary, and it's fairly quiet. It still has a whirring sound, likely more noticeable, standing alone, but not loud.Mine came with the front edge trim, loose on one side. Examining it, I was able to re-secure it, just gently snapping back in place. For the money, I feel I made a good choice. I've used it, about five or six times already without any issues. It plays CDs directly out of your speakers when needed, but have not yet, tried playing a DVD.
