Newer Computers don't have CD disk drives so you have to use this external drive to copy and store data. Works great but takes up space. However it's portable so you just hook it up and use it when you need it.

I bought this so I could play my dvd movies on my laptop and it does not work at all if I could give it zero stars I would. And it is not worth the price at all. Unfortunately I am past the return date so the only thing it is good for is a paper weight

Optical drives are still very useful, but few laptop or notebook computers include them anymore. That's why I keep my ORICO External DVD CD Drive in my desk and bring it with me when I travel. A CD or DVD is by far the best and cheapest way to provide media and other content to clients and family members because they hold a lot of information, are familiar to everyone, and cost just pennies. My clients appreciate slide shows I prepare that they can watch at home or the office, and my family loves the genealogical photo albums that my wife and I put together from time to time. This burner makes it easy.The ORICO External DVD CD Drive requires external software to function; this is widely available and, for basic functions, free or built into most operating systems. A clever connector arrangement lets both the power and data connect through one cable; I'm able to power it directly from my laptop but a second power-only cable is included for computers that require it. Besides burning DVDs and CDs, this drive does a great job playing them; I've used it and a laptop to provide entertainment a few times and it works well. I'm delighted with this external optical drive and happy to recommend it.

This is an absolute piece of junk: worked SOME of the time for a few months (that is, *sometimes* mounted, *sometimes* accepted insertion of a disc without spitting it right back out, *sometimes* could read the disc); now it has stopped working altogether. Paid extra expecting an actual working component. Oops. Never again.
Works well to burn DVD films I want to save.
It does a great job of burning DVDs and it is a nice convenience to have those extra USB ports on the side of it.
