They’ve also sparked creativity and brought a sense of fun and enjoyment back to my work routine.Build Quality and Style The build quality of both the Mech 300 keyboard and the EM01 Trackball mouse is exceptional. The materials feel premium and durable, ensuring long-term reliability. The sleek, modern design of these devices adds a touch of sophistication to my desk setup. The use of white backlighting, instead of the typical RGB, is a perfect choice. It provides a clean, professional look that complements any workspace without being distracting.Connectivity and Performance Both devices offer seamless connectivity, making them a breeze to set up and use. This keyboard feels like it is much more expensive than it really is. Here’s the breakdown:Pros: - Stylish: Rounded keys are a nice touch: sets it apart from other standard keyboards. - Low profile keys: fast actuation of switches - not great for heavy handed people, though. - Ability to have a solid backlight (not patterned) - a plus for me. - Quiet keys: not silent, but not clicky. Similar to Brown switches. - Has an on/off switch that is easily accessible. - Dedicated media control knob and buttons: volume up/down, play, pause, forward, back. - When taking photos, this keyboard's LED's were not flickering like my other keyboard. Better quality?Cons: - Key font is thin: Light coming through is not as bright as others. - Light feel: other mechanical keyboards are heavier, with a good heft. - Kickstand is not very high: approx. 5°-7° Not bad, but since it has low profile keys, the angle feels much lower. - The volume knob is small (10mm dia.) and feels a bit wobbly. - If you are not great at keyboarding, you may unintentionally activate other keys b/c of the lower profile. - Rounded keys are spaced closer together than standard square ones (approx. 1/8” or 3mm) versus my standard keyboard (approx. 1/4” or 6.5mm). Novices (like me) are bound to occasionally hit 2 keys at once.Photos show my current keyboard and my new ProtoArc (rounded keys). For the record, the lights show up brighter than they really are in the photos and they are on the maximum brightness level. I took some photos with the backlight off to show the actual font thickness compared to my old keyboard.Overall, a great keyboard for the price with a good, fluid feel.08/12/24:This is not a deal breaker, but I have one more "con". This keyboard does not "sync up" with my other ProtoArc USB dongles that I have (2 track ball mice). In other words, I need to have all 3 USB dongles connected to my laptop hub for all of my ProtoArc accessories to work. I wish they would have a system that allows all accessories to connect with each others' USB plugs - like Logitech. As I said, not a deal breaker, but it would free up some USB ports.
