5.0 out of 5 stars I'm using BDXL Verbatim disks and this machine has worked perfectly so far.
I use it for high rez recording so far, and except for being very slow recording, the quality of the recording is perfect as of now. No real problems other than price of disks, $12 per. But you can't test for 'time' very easily, and that's the TRUE test for this machine. The quality of performance is great, and the longevity evaluation is the real purpose for these recordings--I just haven't had it long enough as yet, and you can't easily measure that other than that. So far, it passes with no problems other than recording speed. If it does what it's intended to do, I won't complain about that.

Works well with my Mac
5.0 out of 5 stars Feels good quality
Its very elegant, slim and doesn't use to much space. Just what is needed for.Very happy with it
4.0 out of 5 stars Suits my needs for long-term cold storage
So much of our lives is digitally based that can vanish in an instant if a hard drive gets zapped during a power surge. I've had more than a few data loss incidents in my life. I normally have multiple drives to save things like photos and videos but I wanted something a little more permanent. So I looked into getting some 128GB BDXL discs to keep things like all the content I've uploaded to Google Photos over the years. I'm using this Pioneer drive to burn the data to disc and it's been working fine so far. Seems reliable and it's a good feeling to have a few extra backups just in case.
1.0 out of 5 stars Really disappointed
Pioneer is usually considered a top brand for me. Having pioneered the CDJ (no pun intended) and being in the home hi fi business for decades, I had high hopes for this blu ray drive. Connecting it to my Mac mini (M1) via a USB hub allowed me to play CD’s, but I couldn’t rip them. Connecting it directly to my Mac, it allowed me to rip CDs for awhile , but then stopped working within 30 days of purchase. It almost ate one of my CD’s, even. Maybe getting an external power for this would have helped, but what a pain.Lastly, while I can’t really fault the player for this, playing blu rays on my Mac was extremely complicated and unintuitive.Needless to say I returned this and bought an ASUS one less than a quarter of the price. While the Asus drive can’t play blu rays, at least it actually works consistently for CDs and dvds.
5.0 out of 5 stars Very good so far
The media could not be loaded. Very good for playing DVD's but not sure about Blu Rays since those are ANNOYINGLY region locked. But to get around that just RIP them into digital format and you're good to go. VLC Media Player has a tool that lets you switch between Region A, B and C but that's ONLY for DVD's. Yes I know you can change the region on the device but it says you can only do that like five times or something. Just get around that by just ripping it into digital format and you'll be able to watch anything, anywhere. It does take a while to RIP though. I'm ripping about 13-15 episodes of Samurai Jack on Blu Ray with MakeMKV and it's about 2 hours and 40ish minutes.
5.0 out of 5 stars Blu Ray/DVD/CD Burner works well
I had to replace my older BD DVD burner as my cat liked sitting on it. She somehow caused it to not revolve when it needed to do so.This model is pretty much the same type of burner other than a few cosmetic changes. The disks have to be inserted into a slot instead of opening the top. This burner uses a slightly different cable connector which comes with it. It also has a power hook up, but I do not need to use one.The burner has been doing its job well just as the last one did. Pioneer is still a quality name in the business.I should note some reviewers state this burner can be used as a player as well. I have not tried to play a DVD or Blu Ray on it myself. I only use this as a burner. I did check the box but found nothing to indicate either way.Software is required when burning DVDs and Blu Rays which is available on the internet.
3.0 out of 5 stars Didn't Work With My Older PC, But Might Have Worked With My Current One...
When I bought this unit in August of 2023, I had a Windows Core-i7(Gen8) CPU. I flashed the Pioneer's FW, but Handbrake and MakeMKV wouldn't recognize it. It wasn't until after I had returned it that my PC died and I ended up getting a used Core-i7(Gen 10) model that probably would have worked... if I have read and understood the user forums.
Does the job writing m-disks
This seems to write m-disks fine. Nice unit with slot loading. Bit pricy for what it is but there aren't many alternatives.
