5.0 out of 5 stars Very light, comfortable, easy to grip, sweats a whole lot
I bought this new Stanley canteen because I don't have the grip strength to manage round 32oz water bottles any more due to carpal tunnel. This canteen sweats a lot because it's not insulated. So, even though the shape is easier for me to hold, it does get pretty slippery. The most important things for me when hiking are the weight, easy grip, and close fit to the body. So, the sweating wasn't a deal realer for me.I think a standard USGI canteen pouch would fit this just fine, and it would solve the sweating issue while providing insulation. But, it would also add some bulk that I wasn't willing to deal with.Ideally, someone would make a universal neoprene canteen sleeve. But, to my utter shock and dismay, nothing like that seems to exist. Laken makes a neoprene sleeve for their canteens, but it can't be purchased separately and doesn't look like it would fit a standard USGI style canteen.I ended up buying the TahoeBay Universal Handholds for Tumblers. It comes with three sizes. The large size sleeve will fit the Stanley canteen if you want it bad enough. The grippy interior lining of the sleeve is great once it's on, but getting it on there was a real struggle. The sleeve does help a lot with sweating and a little bit with insulation. The second photo shows the level of ice when I first filled it (ambient temp around 78°F). The third photo is the sweat that accumulated at the base within about 60 seconds. The fourth photo is after about an hour (very little change in ice level). Fifth photo is sweat around the base at that time. Sixth photo is a couple hours after that, including a 40-min bike ride in direct sun at 82°F (no ice left, but the water was still chilly). All in all I'm really happy with the canteen. I love the shape, it weighs nothing, and it hangs close to my body, making it easy to maneuver through brush, etc.
5.0 out of 5 stars Nice conversation piece!
As soon as people realize it’s a Stanley they ask me where did I buy this!!!! My only complaint is to be careful banging it against surfaces the paint will chip unfortunately!!!!!! No leaks! Design compliments most of my wardrobe! Strap is machine washable, you can soak it in a container with dawn dish soap as well!
5.0 out of 5 stars "Randall, There's condensation outside" "This is a canteen. You're gonna find condensation outside!"
The biggest complaint I see (and would have myself) is, indeed, these sweat like crazy if you put a cold drink insideBut it's a single-wall canteen. Without turning into a physics lecture, that's just what happens. So put room-temp liquids in if you want to avoid it.Holds a good amount of water and is comfortable to wear. The side clips work best if you face the 'nubs' away from the canteen itself, they clatter a lot less that way. Pretty easily to clean inside, the opening is wide enough to get a small sponge in without much trouble though I can't quite reach all the sides, and definitely not the bottom without kid-sized hands.Personally would only use this for water anyway (again, not insulated!), so not too much of a concern.Given everything I feel like the price cold be a bit lower but I'm pretty happy with it, and it doesn't feel cheap, so maybe you just get what you pay for.For those who want something similar without the sweating there's a different, insulated "cross body" Stanley makes but it holds less fluid and costs almost $80 which strikes me as a bit absurd, but someone might like it.
1.0 out of 5 stars Stanley canteen that sweats horribly
love the cross body strap concept YET it the canteen needs a cozi too! It sweats when the ice melts which is very quick as there is no insulation...and unfortunately this 'sweat' ends up on my clothes- Bad design
4.0 out of 5 stars Nice canteen
Nicely made canteen. The only thing I don’t like is the top is a little bit difficult to unscrew with one hand. It is also large.
5.0 out of 5 stars High Quality H20 … vessel
I’ll start by saying I’m absolutely a Stanley fanboy - so take that into this if you need.I saw these as I was getting hiking gifts for the family (because we hike. As a family.) and thought, what the heck? The novelty is there and it seems practical enough.Love the classic hammertone green that I purchased for all of us - that classic Stanley vibe (that’s what the kewl kids are saying, yeah?), build quality was fantastic, and really enjoy the widemouth option for filling, but that the kid has a screw top for drinking.I purchased a “tactical canteen holder” (because tactical is tacti-COOL! Amirght?) and it fits in so well and added some belt functionality that would allow for shorter hikes or walks to have this at the center and then the essentials easily available. All this to say, if you want to hydrate like your grandfathers and great grandfathers did when they were pushing back the nazis or liberating the Pacific? This is the way to go.If you prefer a more peaceful version of that - this is a quality product (not insulated) that will make you feel like an adventurer while providing plenty of water!
5.0 out of 5 stars just the right size
just what I was looking for, great for hiking. One thing I wish that was different, it is not insulated in any way. I put ice cubes in and that works great in keeping the water cool. Quality construction
2.0 out of 5 stars It’s look cute but thats all
It doesn’t keep cold or hot for long its very noisy and heavy to carry. Can get scratches so easily. When you put something cold in it for a few minutes outside of it is just soaking wet from the temperature difference all most feel like it leaks. The worst Stanley product i ever purchased
Reassuringly stolid
One sip, pleasure dome,And I feel my chest has grownMore hirsute and firm
Ok
Dual cap system is a little strange and unnecessary. We’d opening only would be better. Strap is surprisingly useful. It is difficult for me to bend to pick things up. This helps a lot
Can damaged /dented with metal hook to attach strap missing
Came in really bad condition , dented hook to attach strap missing , extremely cross as was not cheap
