4.0 out of 5 stars Not a good replacement if you have a heater in your current fan
Bought this on Prime day and had my electrician come out to help us install it in our bathroom where there is already a bathroom fan with a heater built-in installed. Because of the heater, we would have had to patch the dry wall around this fan (and do all the work to make it look nice again) since it isn't as oblong as the one we have now.Upon learning this, we decided to return this fan rather than have to deal with the extra work with the dry wall in the ceiling.
5.0 out of 5 stars Big
This is bigger than my old fan. It took my husband who is pretty handy around 45 minutes to install. It does a great job of making my teen boys bathroom less musty smelling. That is a big win.
5.0 out of 5 stars whisper quiet, even at high CFM, nice features, only 1 year warranty
I cannot get over how quiet this fan is, even when 140 CFM mode is selected (via dip switch under the grill). I'm sure the large 6" exhaust port has a lot to do with that. There are also switches to set the % humidity at which to turn the fan on, and the delay time which keeps the fan running after the wall switch is turned off or the humidity level reached. The delay timer did not seem to work for me and the fan stopped turning immediately - may have to re-read the instructions (again). Installation was a little confusing because there are 3 ways to connect it depending on whether you want a separate switch for the light and fan. The diagram is not clear the way it is drawn though and I had to follow the dots and dashes to figure it out. If you only have a single switch, you can wire it to both fan and light and use the humidity sensor to enable the fan when necessary. For a bathroom this is great because you don't have to touch anything and the fan will come on when you take a shower, and go off when the humidity is back down. My other fan uses a flick of the wall switch, but every time we have a power failure we have to reset the fan. The way the controls work is a little confusing because there is always an "unless" as each mode is dependent on the settings of the other mode. Make sure you keep a copy of this page as bathroom reading because it takes a while to understand it. There is no temperature or intensity setting on the light and you get a bright light only. That's really too bad because this fan seems to do just about everything else. The light controller is stuck to the back of the grill with double sided tape - at least it is supposed to be. In my case it was hanging loose. This means you really have to be careful when removing the grill to clean it because the weight of the controller is with the grill, and the short cable to the base of the fan can get you in trouble if you are not careful. There is a clip so you can remove the grill and light assembly completely, though I think they could have done a better job with this. Even the cheapest LED lights have a temperature and/or intensity switch so it should be a simple matter of incorporating that feature in this fan. This product costs a little more than some of the others, but there are some nice features here that make it worth it. Note that there is only a 1 year warranty and some of the others have a 5 year warranty, or more.
5.0 out of 5 stars Now THIS is a quiet but powerful exhaust fan! Impressive DC motor variable speed
Review of Haier Bathroom Exhaust Fan with 4000K LED Lights, 140 CFM, 10W Bathroom Vent Fan:I've installed my share of exhaust fans that all claim to be "silent" or "ultra quiet", but once you install them they are anything but and it makes you wonder who on earth thinks these are quiet. But wow this fan is very impressive!First of all it isn't using a regular AC motor but instead uses a variable speed DC motor that somehow senses how fast it needs to go to push the required CFMs. You can tell this when you power it up and the fan cage will dither for a second or two and then spin up smoothly. The interesting thing is that if you block the exhaust output, the fan will immediately speed up to compensate.Additional comments:1. The one-way flapper on the exhaust is just a thin sheet of metal. In my experience these tend to flap around when you have high winds outside and squeak or rattle a bit. It would have been nice to see a better design on this part.2. This does require access from above the ceiling. It is not a retrofit unless you can access from above.3. This is 6" duct sizing. If you try and downsize to 4" you are probably going to cause it to run faster and a bit louder.4. There is a slight wobble in the fan squirrel cage on my unit but at the low RPMs it runs at you don't notice the slight imbalance. The air output is really impressive.5. Your cutout needs to be 28.5 x 26.5 CM (10.5 x 11.25") if you want it to sit on top of your drywall ceiling. The included cutout template is 11.5" x 12.25" but that seems to assume you want to rim to extend below your drywall and have it suspended just by the rails. Seems odd to me.6. There are a super impressive set of controls for setting the fan speed (CFM), time delay and humidity level sensitivity, as well as how fast it should run if you use the "low airflow" mode (when you have the main switch turned off but it senses humidity).7. The LED light is bright enough and a good color temperature for most bathrooms.8. 1 year warranty.Summary:This really is a super quiet fan. The only negatives are that you need access from above for existing construction in order to install. Also 6" ducts may not be as common in bathrooms. If you are doing new construction then this is without a doubt a great fan to use.
